Autists, explain what's wrong with having story mode in video games which allows to skip through gameplay filler. If a game has several hours of cutscenes which essentially work as visual novel by themselves, and people are willing to pay their money for it, what's (your) fucking problem with it?
Autists, explain what's wrong with having story mode in video games which allows to skip through gameplay filler...
What's 'wrong' is that the game has been designed incredibly poorly if you want to skip the gameplay.
>gameplay filler
nice bait
I wonder what hamburger helper is up to theae days.
Tell me you are legitimately interested in grinding in modern open world games beyond several first hours.
Because the story and cutscenes are trash. So you're getting nothing good out of the game at all.
>visual novel
Yep, these are not video games
You call me an autist for skipping cutscenes and I call you an autist for skipping the gameplay, it's called a conversation
What if the cutscenes change based on how you played the game before it?
Go read a fucking book or watch a movie.
>and people are willing to pay their money for it
Just because there may be a market for something doesn't mean it's a good thing
>video games
>gameplay
>filler
There's your problem right there
Give me an example of a story in video games that is worthwhile without any gameplay first
It's like skipping chapters of a book or fast forwarding a film. Massive pleb decision.
Having said that, something is seriously wrong about the game itself if its designed in a way that the gameplay is less interesting than the story content.
Do you know any cases of game community throwing tantrum because some dev said he wishes he could skip the cutscenes because he only cares about gameplay?
>gameplay filler
legitimately a good one. i laughed.
Use it well
Auto-battle already exists, so whatever
it's shameless
you can't sell a 5 minute shit tier anime for 60$. there has to be some limit to what you can do
But you won't deny that gameplay in Uncharted 4 and GTAV just feels awkward compared to overall maturity of the games?
There is massive gap between how story is told and how characters go on killer sprees between cutscenes.
Undertale
>Video games
>VIDEO GAMES
>VIDEO GAME
>GAME
Would fix pic related
>if you don't have to shoot someone in the head it's not a game
You can also jump on their head.
Tell me you are legitimately interested in the story of open world games.
Gameplay is widely considered more important than story/writing
The gameplay is tied to the story
What's your problem if someone is?
>citation needed
Watch your tone.
Let me just pull years of links and images out of my ass you stupid nigger
Fucking leave if you don't see that people think this because you clearly haven't been here long enough
Sup Forums opinion on things is marginal at best
Fallout 4 is complete trainwreck according to Sup Forums while in reality it's best selling bethesda game.
Sales don't mean shit
Dane Cook isn't the greatest comedian and Apple products are not the best on the market
Remember when hamburger Hepler posted this exact thing in an interview and got a flood of hatemail.
Ironically sales are the only thing which matter in video game industry, and ton of different others
What actually doesn't mean shit is some anonymous neckbeard's opinion on what he considers a bad game.
Well, for all intents and purposes, let's plays do exactly what she suggested.
Then it's the writer's fault for telling it poorly, not the game itself.
Well OP, at that point you've got what we call a 'Movie' instead of a 'Videogame'.
And if you're looking to read instead of watch, it's called a 'book'.
Writer tells the story as he sees appropriate for contemporary narrative medium.
Then the game just throws dozens of faceless mooks at player to kill because it's still supposed that average consumer of games is eternal teenager who is obsessed with explosions and headshots above everything else.
I haven't said any game is bad, don't know where you are getting that. Just saying ask anyone who isn't some fat ass poser who doesn't want his parents to be ashamed of him redditor and they will most likely say Gameplay > All Else
Remember when there was that one kickstarter game where everyone NOPEed and pulled their pledges after they found out that one of the rewards was Helper writing the story?
Why couldn't you sell a 5 minute garbage anime for 60 dollars? This is a free capitalist market.
And somebody actually buys it, they were never good with money anyway.
Nothing wrong with it, System Shock kinda did this with allowing to set all difficulty settings to 0
Those games had gameplay segments?
There is a difference of playing on Easy mode and having a button which just skips the entire video game, what she wants is the cutscenes on YouTube but interactive
So telltale games are movies according to you?
Or books?
And that is the fault of the writer.
You write the story around the gameplay. Not the other way around. Otherwise you end up with a shitty game like Bioshock Infinite.
Telltale games are point and click adventures, they're just not that good at the point and click/puzzle aspect
>having a button which just skips the entire video game
What's your problem with it if someone else willing to pay for it?
The gameplay should be complimenting the story. If it doesn't, it's a bad game, and I incidentally have a fucking problem with bad games.
Video game developers should not be pandering to people who don't want to play video games
Do you have any stats for that?
All we know it sold better at launch, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if Skyrim have sold a lot more in general because people actually loved it to death unlike Fallout 4 which was positively received, but nothing special. And now has a reputation for being kinda shit.
So if you throw out that part from batman games when batman fights off another wave of faceless goons while keeping exploration, investigation and story intact it instantly ceases to be a video game?
More like walk and button games.
God I hope this trend ends, it's such a boring fucking genre and it's ruining more and more classic adventure games.
Investigation and exploration is gameplay though. Shit gameplay, but gameplay.
Why have a story mode that skips gameplay when I can do that on Youtube for free?
Actually it's fair point.
Letsplays of narrative games are cancer and should be sued into oblvion.
>Exploration and Investigation are not gameplay elements in Batman games
Have you even played a Batman game
Why not take a page from COD's MP-only versions, and sell a "Story Only" version of the game which is just cutscenes and removes all of that pesky annoying gameplay?
Reduce the price to something reasonable like $10 or $15, around the cost of a movie DVD, since that's all it is.
