Ok so the switch is a bad idea and probably going to bomb, but I need a new portable gaming system since I fly a lot for work.
I'm thinking of getting a shield mostly for emulators but I do intend on replaying a few pc ports and maybe picking up some android games. Opinions? Anyone own one?

Just get a good phone, and maybe a cheapo laptop/toaster to play any emulated games that suck with touch controls, or old PC games.
It's library is shit but as a way to stream steam games from my PC to my bed it's not a bad value proposition.
Honestly Switch will get more PC ports than Shield will ever get...
>Opinions? Anyone own one?
I have a shield tv since 2015
not the tablet, the "console"
it's great for emulators up to psp and dolphin (gamecube/wii)
also gamestream is great if you have a nvidia card
>switch
>bomb
>people still think this
kek
are those indie games all it has to give? or are there any good AAA games? because I can download these on my phone
I don't use steam or geforce experience so this isn't really a factor for me.
I already have a good phone, I just want a bigger screen, ds games in particular are a humongous pain in the ass on a smartphone without a pen.
Is the wii emulation good?
Switch will get at best 1 pc port over the course of it's lifespan, and I'm not paying $60 for a decade old game regardless.
>Is the wii emulation good?
the tablet has the K1 chip, which is weaker than the docked X1
forget Wii on the K1
Shit, how was it on the shield tv? 60 fps 1080?
Hack a 2ds.
2ds is less than 100 bucks and includes gigantic roster of fantastic games
No point, 3ds emulation will be done within a year, might aswell just make the long-term investment now.

>Im not going to buy a switch and play nintendo games
>Im going to buy the equivalent hardware and play older badly emulated nintendo games and shitty android games
If you honestly think the Switch is a bad idea you obviously aren't into gaming and should just find another hobby like your normie friends.
I'd rather have an older badly emulated game than modern nintendoshit, to be quite honest.
I've got through about half the wiiu's library in cemu and all of it is a joke, not a single worthwhile game.
Meanwhile I can play super mario world romhacks until the day I die.
Just reading the writing on the wall user, no need to get offended.
>paying hundreds of pounds to play super mario world
i hope your death is soon, and you dont reproduce before it happens
3ds
I'm just saying smw alone has more content than the switch will have in it's entire lifespan juding by the current trend.
I'm spending $300 for a tablet with a browser, the ability to play movies and music, a multitude of apps and native games, in addition to supporting every previous generation's nintendo games and most other consoles.
How is that stupid, meanwhile buying a switch for $300 to play a wiiu port isnt?
I don't think power is what is going to determine the fate of the Switch. If it gets hacked, it will sell shit loads. I'm expecting a hack by the end of the summer. Just wait and see. /screencap this
Realistically if the switch gets hacked at that rate they'll drop it within 2 years and it'll be emulated within 2 years. So there's no reason to get invested if that's remotely true.
>so the switch is a bad idea and probably going to bomb
Nope and nope
>t.Nintendo employee
There is a tons o controls that you can hold your mobile and play like a hand held
Here is the deal:
Buy a good smartphone with android OS
Buy one the smartphones controls held
Download a emulator program or hack your device
Or be like me and buy a ching chong handheld like JXD or GPD
Oh, the second option is more risky
I have a smartphone and controller, I just want something with more screen realestate.
I actually have one. I more use it for video watching in bed cause it has front facing speakers. It's a bit heavy for gaming though if you plan to hold the thing while on the go. Though since you mentioned flying I assume you'll be setting it on a table while playing, which it's good for. A friend of mine used to emulate Monster Hunter Portable 3rd on it and play while at work.
A tablet? I think that razer has a tablet with controller but sell separated
I've considered that too, and even the surface pro, but they're honestly just laptops with detachable keyboards they're crazy expensive and crazy overpowered for what I'm trying to do.
Fuckin ching chong JXDs man. I had a 7300 for the longest time and the thing was amazing and took forever to break. Like the best emulation machine I've ever had. I bought a 7800 when they first released and the thing bricked almost immediately.
I really love the concept of JXDs, but the manufacturing standards could use some work. I wish I could just buy another 7300, because that thing was super solid.
You could just get a regular Android tablet and use it for emulation, like a Nexus or something. Android emulation has come a really long way, and you can play up to N64/PS1 and NDS/PSP with a good tablet without difficulty. There are also some actual game ports for android, like XCOM:EW and Dead Space.
I use a cheapo Lenovo tablet for emulation with a controller. I got it a few years ago for like $140, so you can get better now for that price. It runs most things decently, though it can't do fancy up-scaling for PS1 games. I also don't think it could handle 3D PSP games well like Peace Walker. If you have a higher performance Android tablet, they'd probably run fine though.
I recently found out that there's now homebrew that makes PS4 remote play on hacked Vitas possible.
Is it worth it, though? I don't own a PS4 yet, but I'd like to play the games on my Vita, if there aren't any downsides.
