Hunting Horn players have the option of sticking their songs on the bottom screen. This seems like it'd be most useful for those just starting to get into HH, rather than those who have grown competent, but even so, more options is always nice.
Monster Hunter XX
X was shit and XX will also be shit.
X was better than 4U
XX will be better than both
>I don't like it
>So it's shit
I'd say X got worse in several areas compared to 4U, but it's just as valid to mention that it also improved in several areas compared to 4U. Honestly I feel they're too different to do a proper comparison. I do think XX will be better than X though.
It'd be weird if it was worse, given it's just going to be a buncha more content
X lets you play the game as if you're playing 4U, the only difference is the lack of guild quests and some monsters, which will hopefully be fixed with XX
I dunno, I think X fucked up by removing a lot of what 4U had going for it.
>A proper single player segment with at least some kind of narrative to follow, as well as a better single player progression with fewer mandatory gathering quests and a monster strength and variety ramp up that felt natural and not as tedious.
>A parts trading system such that every monster you hunted essentially offered armour and weapons for two monsters rather than one, massively increasing the variety of equipment you could make
And though it wasn't perfect
>A semi-random quest generation system that yielded semi-random weapon and armour rewards that could compete with crafted items, but rarely overshadowed them
I felt the honing system also had potential, and part of me hopes it'll return in XX after a fashion.
Although I do appreciate some of the other improvements XX brought along with it, such as the massively improved upgrade system that does not force you into mandatory upgrade paths that may potentially change certain preferred aspects of your weapon (bowguns, bows, gunlances, switch axes, stats and visuals) and does not lock you out of accessing other upgrade branches just for wanting to upgrade its damage further to better match up to the current tier, while it also allowed for many early game weapons to match up to endgame at least somewhat respectably even if they weren't the best, also reducing grind for new weapons if players didn't want to do that.
I also appreciated the myriad of standard fixes, rebalances, new moves and improvements to the most basic style of combat, even if I didn't agree with all of them (such as for instance the reversion of the 4U LS's aura mechanic to the 3U iteration rather than building further upon the 4U iteration to make it stronger and more enjoyable).
Honing system was boring, everyone just took attack and it served as nothing more than a way to try and balance the guild weapons always being better
You're right though I totally forgot about the part exchange system, being able to make armor sets from monsters that weren't in the game was fantastic and not having it in X was unfortunate.
A more fleshed out story appeals to some people more than others, some just don't care about plot and want to beat up big dinosaurs, but I can also understand the people who do enjoy some context. What I do miss is cutscenes displaying your hunter as well as the rest of your party, having akantor roar at you just for the camera to pan to your smug hunters face was hilarious every god damn time.
everyone I played MHX with dropped it before reaching the true final monster
there's something unexplainable about how MHX feels in comparison to the previous game that just makes it less enjoyable
>true final monster
Which one? Amatsu?
Nakarkos's final form
I know there's shit later like alatreon but hell
we didn't even kill rusted Kush in 4U cause we kinda suck
Brave style feels like it is what the other styles should have been. Aerial was just spamspamspam, adept was just regular moveset with evasion skills built in+counter.
Brave gunlance actually seems like the first time GL is actually GOOD.
There was nothing wrong with MHX but after 1000 hours of 4U it didn't feel fresh enough for me to bother. I also got tilted as fuck how many of the end game monsters would just fly constantly making them very unenjoyable to fight.
Astalos and Glavenus were A+ though
>Everyone just took attack
I had a Pure Defence set that used a lance with a massive innate defence buff, I forget which one, and added a Defence hone on top of that, then grabbed a bunch of skills for reducing damage. The end result is that I could tank among even the strongest of attacks that would 1HKO even veterans from Elder Dragons if they failed to dodge it. It was fun, if not good for fast killing.
I also had a healing honed sword and shield set for use with Peak Performance, and a light bowgun too. I don't always play the most efficient, but it's fun at least.
Brave feels like there's a good chance it'll be one of the most powerful styles in the game.
Honestly I do hope styles and arts go away for MH5. Not that I don't like them in general, but I feel like they really distress and dilute the core MH experience that I grew to love and adore with Tri and 3U.
I don't think they should go away entirely though. Instead of building styles around trying to force the gimmick on every weapon, I feel like they could condense styles into just two styles for each weapon, the "Standard" style and the "Alternative" style, where several combo paths and moves from styles that currently exist get merged into the Guild and Alternative styles so they feel heavily customized, rather than gimmicky.
Arts I could see being toned down and reworked into some movesets as well - for instance, I could see Gunlance Alternative having the Blast Dash as a function of redundant reloading, with distances varying depending on shot type and strength, or Dual Blades Alternative having Blood Wind as a function of repeatedly performing X+A in Archdemon, but draining much more Arch-Gauge as normal, while Gunlance Standard gets Dragon's Breath as a function of holding a charged shot to force heat to build up, dealing consistent damage over time in front while it's performed, like blowing a torch on the monster. Stuff like that.
I hope styles is just them trying out new stuff to maybe incorporate into their next main title. Gunlance gets guard points in Brave style which is something I think the weapon needs to keep up with stuff like CB. Even longsword gets guard points/counters if you have both brave gauge and spirit gauge charged which I think is very interesting.
If the series don't want to stagnate it needs something different and more advanced movesets is something I support. At least I'm having a lot of fun with the XX demo.
I don't suppose the new arts are available in the demo, like Tempest Axe for the Switch Axe for example?
> mfw brave gunlance
Holy fuck, that rapid fire, those combos, those free reloads into more rapid fire
The demo is pretty fun. I really am liking those QoL touches that they're doing for this game.
I hope they improved the charm grinding too.
Im just getting back into monhun now. the last one I played was tri on the wii.
Just picked up generations last week. theres already a new one?
There hasn't even been an english announcement of XX as far as I know
you did mildly fuck up by buying X instead of 4U with XX on the horizon, but whatever it's not the hugest issue
Don't worry XX is just the "G" version of X/Generations, and it isn't getting localized. You could play through Generations and edit your save data so XX would recognize that you played it, but obviously you'd be playing XX in Japanese.
why the fuck is it not getting localized?
3DS is dead, lad. There's only Fire Emblem Echoes releasing for it this year, there's no other major titles in the west. XX is the swan song for MH on 3DS, it's just that it's Japan only.
That is literally the most useful buff for the HH
No more having a notepad with a list of songs to look at anymore
He's talking out his ass
Ideally you should work on your ability to remember patterns so you shouldn't need it. It feels most useful as a tool for beginners, sort of like the target cam.
We don't know whether it's getting localized or not, but let me tell you, localizing it to the west would take six months to a year after initial Japanese release, would eat into Switch sales and make people wonder why Nintendo's still releasing 3DS games.
No, I imagine if anything, it may get a potential Switch port, which we may get in turn, along with tools to swap our save data over, similar to what the 3DS and Wii U did with 3U.
Generations released last year, "Generations Ultimate" wouldn't sell well on the 3DS, and it'd cost too much to localize and publish the game.
Does anyone know if Charlotte is going to play XX or stay with Generations?
Who the fuck is Charlotte?
Stopped playing mhx because I failed to mount alatreon twice when hunting with friends. It was very embarrassing.
She's only the most beautiful and talented huntress around with magnificent stinky feet. How can you not know the goddess named Charlotte? Do you even play monhun?
I speculate it's autistic /vg/ shit
its a player you often run into if you play in /mhg/ rooms that does whatever quest you post and is online at least half the day
/mhg/ likes to shitpost about them
