Graphics are part of a good game. They are one of the most important things that convey game state and mechanics and shit to the player. It is important that it do so very well.
And aside from Pokemon, all of those games have good graphics for their respective platform.
This is definitely true. I think the picture would be much more accurate if it was saying that graphics don't need to be "realistic", which I think was what it was trying to say but failed at articulating.
>it's not the graphics that make a game good
yeah, alright
>it's the story and characters!
FUCK THIS
Mega Man ZX is something I replay every now and then.
quake 3 arena
nothing else feels like home
If only the map system made sense and the game didn't beep at you constantly when you've completed a mission or whatever.
It has easily some of the best bosses in the series and a hard mode actually worth a damn, so the flaws make me real sad.
>game
>stories
Souls
For whatever reason I find DK64 really fucking comfy despite some of the tedious challenges presented
The map problem solves itself when you replay the game.
I don't recall ever being irritated with the mission complete sound either. It's a very, very inoffensive alarm, and it's not like you ever need to listen to it for long when there's save points everywhere.
>The map problem solves itself when you replay the game.
Not really. I may know where to go and all that from experience, but I would still vastly prefer a map that makes sense.
MMX
>graphics don't make good games
>picture has some of the best-looking games of their respective consoles/handhelds
>it's the stories
>none of the games pictured have a strong focus on story, mostly just excuse plots
Then why do those 4 games have good graphics?
Except crash but crash was always shit anyway
Don't question the retarded Reddit-tier image.
>graphics don't make a good game
>Minish Cap is one of the best looking GBA games
>HG/SS had perfectly serviceable pixel art
>Spyro/Crash has really good looking environments, the former excelling in color choice for said environments
dumb
Spelunky is my comfort game
I was never a big Spelunky fan. I'm more of a Binding of Isaac man myself.
My comfort game is probably Super House Of Dead Ninjas. It's fun to go fast.
youtube.com
I also had the speedrun WR for a while
Nice, it feels so good to finally master spelunky and do high score runs.
Those are all great graphics for the systems and time periods though
Take your Facebook memes elsewhere
Splatoon.
Mega Man X
Pokemon Crystal
There's some Dreamcast and GC games I'd say would count if I could play them portable
This game will never get old for me.
Morrowind
I just wander around really.
Any TES game, it's my biggest guilty pleasure
A reason why Pokemon is so beloved is because of the bond you create with your pokemon, the stories the players make with their play-through.
Otherwise, yeah, the only excuse for the others is "nostalgia".
lately..........
its a guilty pleasure
its MGSV, i like to run around with the water gun and see if i can ghost entire bases without knocking a single guard out or being detected
>stories the players make
>bond you create
Yeah, okay pal.
>Pokemon games
>stories
>bonds with the pokemon
The image isn't of Mystery Dungeon, senpai.
>implying you make stories or form bonds in Mystery Dungeon as well
You serious? Every PMD thread is people crying about the endings because they actually give a shit about the story and characters.
Devil may cry 3
Path of Exile. Until I die of course.
NEETs crying over stupid shit is nothing new. I could barely play the first Mystery Dungeon, and I only played that and the second series of Mystery Dungeons that came out. I don't know how anyone can feel bad for pixels on a screen, especially when the pixels are fucking Pokémon. Pokémon are literally one step from furfags.
I'm assuming that this is just a game that don't have very high graphics, but you still love it.
If so, probably Kirby's Adventure.
Oh, so you're a retard.
Understood. Expect no further (You)s.
Spotted the Competitivefag.
Kirby's Adventure has great graphics for NES, are you kidding?
Donkey Kong Country and Kirby games are usually my go to games for when I had a bad day and need to chill out. Heck most single player games are just chill out games for me. People annoy me after a while, so getting any alone time is relaxing.
>Graphics don't make the game
>Story makes the game good!
>0 mention of gameplay
Someone needs to smack this guy on the head.
Spotted the gay retard niggers.
For the NES.
Honestly, I can't think of a game I like that looks like TOTAL shit.
Kirby's Adventure is the only thing I can think of that's aged.
>Kirby's Adventure is the only thing I can think of that's aged
What did you mean by this?
'Graphics' is such a retarded word
every PSX game looks better than a 4K PS4 game
why? because you can't see the flaws, because it's on a CRT, because 'good graphics' look like utter shit compared to a 240p image on a curved slotmask
>every PSX game looks better than a 4K PS4 game
I don't think you need to be calling other things retarded.
Demon Gaze is pretty good and so is Dew Prism.
Most PS1 games are pretty comfy.
It's got a small color palate?
I don't fucking know man, the point is is that compared to other games like, Mario and Luigi, Skullgirls, Super Metroid, and Parappa 2, Kirby's Adventure is the least graphically impressive of the bunch.
I dont think mgsv is guilty pleasure if what you enjoy is the gameplay which is actually really good
nice rebuttal faggot
look how ugly ps4 pro tomb raider is compared to tomb raider 3
This is probably the game that aged the best for me from my childhood aside from Threads of Fate.
Donkey Kong Country 1, original Doom 1 and Mario World i feel are games that i can re visit no matter the mood and it will always give me some nostalgic comfort magic
> graphics don't make a good game
> shows literally the best looking games on the PS1
i don't see omega boost in that image
>specific game vs specific game
No faggot.
You said EVERY PS1 game looks better than a PS4 game.
You've got to defend shit like this.
What he said was perfectly valid. Graphics don't make a good game, Ryze, Son of Rome is an awful game but probably the best looking game out there.
Classics don't exist because they look good, classics exist because they are good.
Are you fucking shot?
aww did i make you mad enough that you went and googled a bubsy image?
chuck a crt filter on it and it'll still look better :P
enjoy having that image on your harddrive forever cuck
"4K"
Not him but I honestly get more connected to my party members in mainline than characters in PMD
Probably because you get a better sense of growth out of mainline than PMD which actively discourages evolution and in which the real key to success is item use, more of a "Tamagotchi effect" or parental instinct going on in mainline
You forgot "PSX".
...
While I agree with graphics being important, Pokemon HG/SS had great graphics being on the DS.
Mass Effect 1
Fur Fighters (DC)
maybe also Twilight Princess
I replay these every 2 or 3 years.
I don't think TP is the best 3D Zelda, but it's comfy for some reason.
I always try to replay ME trilogy every few years, but every time I play the first game but get bored a ways into the 2nd and stop.
Every mainline Pokemon game has had above average graphics at absolute best. They are often outdone in terms of presentation by their own spin-offs, let alone every other game on the system.
That said, I haven't played the 3DS games. No idea how those stack up.
>either graphics don't matter at all or they're the only thing that matters
No you retard. Graphics are a part of the whole. If you have two games with identical gameplay but one looks like utter ass and the other is a masterclass in visual design which one is better? It's no coincidence that the games in the OP happen to be graphical masterpieces.
Good taste.
>I don't think TP is the best 3D Zelda, but it's comfy for some reason.
It's probably the best of the 3D Zeldas mechanically, there is a lot of content for a 3D Zelda, and the game is heavily streamlined so you don't have to think about what to do or where to go and you're unlikely to die outside of the optional enemy wave dungeon.
It's very much a "going through the motions" sort of game, which can be comfortable if you're not wanting anything challenging or engaging.
>graphics
>mechanics
what
fuck I need to play this
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
Animal crossing 3ds when life wants to fuck me extra hard which hasn't been in a good while
It's so therapeutic
Great game, but I just find it to spooky to consider it comfy. To each their own I suppose.
I'm not saying graphics are mechanics. I'm saying graphics are one of the most important ways the game communicates its mechanics to the player.
To go with a stupidly extreme example, imagine playing a game on a TV with a busted display.
The game is still running, all the mechanics are in place, you can still beat it, but it's going to be a shitshow because there are effectively no graphics. How are you supposed to interact with the game properly when you can't even tell what is going on outside of sound cues and maybe controller vibration?
For less extreme examples, think of things like projectiles being hard to see, poor indication of when the player character or the enemy are taking damage, little or no wind up or anticipation for attacks, etc.
compare it to Dragon Quest Joker
no game feels as good to move and mindlessly deathmatch in
Viewtiful Joe. Nothing hits the spot like a quick playthrough on adults.
...
Gotta Proctectors.
Mega Man Legends or Ape Escape
No game can match majoras mask for comfiness imo, not even oblivion day 2 is just the best
SPLATOON
