It's only good if you crank up the experience/gathering/taming rates. Play on a PvE custom server with x10 rates (or more) and you'll be fine.

It's fun for the first few hours when you decide to set things up, get a Trike, get a base. But after a while it dawns on you the leveling system was implemented for multiplayer reasons, the progression you feel on a singleplayer world feels meaningless even with the multiplies jacked up.
Not only that, but most things on ark are balanced and based around playing in a small group of 2 - 8 players. Taming a rex, a Quetz, and a Giga become huge monumental tasks for a solo player, not impossible but if things go to shit you've just wasted hours of your life waiting on a single player achievement on a multiplayer based game. It's all very stupid to play on your own in a game designed around tribes.
