I fucking love this game

I fucking love this game.

I'm replaying it after completing it around 14 years ago. Currently just cleared out the NSF from the train station with the hostages.

Anybody else re-fired up? What kind of build are you playing?

Also, here's how i handled the hostage situation.

>Had gas grenade
>Found a vent that gives a view below of the situation
>Threw flare so NSF can check it out and group up
>Threw Gas grenade
>Tranq darted every single one of them while they coughed
>dropped down
>threw EMP at the lasers
>Charged up prod
>Took down remaining 3 NSF without a single bullet fired

Satisfying.

How did you handle this situation?

bump

Without attacking or being seen by anyone except hostages. Just sneak around NSFaggots through vent system and get out right behind the hostages.

how did you save the hostages then?

I know you can take the vent towards the back and get on the train without helping.

I replayed it recently, with GMDX, I liked the mod but some changes were bullshit.

Like limiting the amount of food you can eat until you invest points in some shitty perk, fuck off it's just +1-2 HP per food item.

Also they made MJ Troopers immune to gas, which was a retarded change given there are clusters of them in some places where a gas grenade would have done the job, like a room in the ching chong's apartment with like 4-5 troopers and an aug canister inside.

I'm just playing vanilla with better textures and widescreen support.

...

just for comparison purposes

Cross bow with better textures

This is my preferred way.

Once you sneak around and come out the vent closest to the hostages, you'll talk to them and tell them to get on the train as soon as you open the door. Open the door and they run in and are saved. Obviously need to be mindful of being detected.

Also don't forget to sneak in the shadows near the stairs to get like 40 skill points.

wew, i had no idea. Thanks user.

Also you need to skip the conversation with the hostage you talk to because it takes place in real time. Otherwise you'll end the conversation with the NSF goons huddling around you

I replay it all the time. One of my all-time favorites.

I try to do different builds/personalities. Sometimes really passive focusing on lockpicking/electronics/computers and just melee/pistol weapon skills. Other times "Assassin" type - rifles, pistols, LP and/or electronics. Maybe computers or melee as well. Sometimes vicious killer with heavy, rifle, and pistol skills and basically no others.

some more dx with texture work

>there are people on Sup Forums that have played human revolution and mankind divided without playing Deus ex

I feel sorry for them

all points into swimming

>most people hate the ocean lab

Why?

I unironically put at least one point in swimming on almost every play through.

>tfw I'm playing Deus Ex with a walkthrough and yet I'm still having fun
Hating me aside, I found a bug where you can get infinite 100 points in Vandenberg, what do I do?

There's not a single level I hate in Deus Ex.

>he likes swimming with greasels

>>tfw I'm playing Deus Ex with a walkthrough

explain yourself

Is this game best played without knowing anything about conspiracy theories or should I do some research?

It really is unnecessary but makes a couple areas less annoying

>Is this game best played without knowing anything about conspiracy theories

Yes and as a conspiracy buff i learned a few truthful things from it as well.

I use the pistol upgrade glitch every playthrough

I use the lockpicking/electronic glitch so never put in those points every playthrough

...

I want know where the main stuff is (aug canisters, health) and secrets of the level, I try to skip the rest and I am stuck at Vandenberg trying to find Savage and dont know what to do with the 100 points glitch

has anybody completed the ps2 version?

The changes look absolutely bizarre, almost like a totally different layout for each map.

How does it play compared to pc?

That's how I played it the first time. Thought hey this great.

My mind exploded when I went through the pc even unmodded with how much better it looked and how much better and bigger the areas are.

I do really like the new ending sequences the ps2 version has.

here's another example

>I do really like the new ending sequences the ps2 version has

ive never seen them, i'll post them all if i find them

>tfw own a shitty toaster so I got stuck forever in the mole people's base
>tfw I wanted to know what happened next and spoiled myself everything the game had to offer
I still want to play it now that I own a good pc, but I feel like knowing everyhing and every secret place ruins a little bit of the experience

holy fuck this is incredibly rad and i never expected some of those well done animations

my only grip are the faces looking awful stiff

Serious question, is Mankind Divided worth $18?

Reminder that square enix shelved deus ex for an indefinite amount of time after mankind divided

any mod that attempts to rebalance vanilla is shit, especially if autist like GMDX creator is in charge
prove me wrong

STAY OUTA THE 'TON, MAN.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Before starting, run the game at least once via Steam. This is neccessary for installers to detect the game path.

Step 1: Update outdated maps
All maps in the Game of the Year edition are outdated when compared to the latest patch of the original version. To fix these and get rid of some bugs, run this:
dxm.be/navigator.php5?lang=en&content=202

Step 2: Fix a bug that prevents the story from progressing
There is a bug left where you can't play the game further, because an NPC is missing.
Download the unofficial patch here:
code.google.com/p/deusexv2/

Extract the ZIP file to C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Deus Ex/System.

More information about the bug:
forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2106575

Step 3: Install New Vision
New Vision is a mod that activates high-resolution textures in the game and makes it more sharp. Get it here:
moddb.com/mods/new-vision/downloads/new-vision-15

Only install New Vision! Do not choose to install launchers or renderers, because all of them are outdated in the New Vision installer.

Step 4: Install HDTP
HDTP is somewhat similar to New Vision - but instead of updating the environment textures, it makes the character models more human and less edgy. Get it here:
moddb.com/mods/project-hdtp/downloads/hdtp-beta-release-3

Choose to install Kenties DirectX10 renderer. Do not install the OTP fix!

Step 5: Install DeusExe
Kentie is a good guy - he wrote a lot of renderers and he also did a launcher for Deus Ex - a little application that runs before the actual game and lets you manage things. Get it here:
kentie.net/article/dxguide/files/DeusExe-v7.zip

Extract the Zip file into your Deus Ex/System folder and overwrite the DeusEx.exe

Step 6: Get SweetFX
To utilize the power of the DX10 renderer, we install SweetFX. Get the ZIP file of it here:
reshade.me/sweetfx#download

Extract it wherever you want and run "ReShade Setup.exe"

Press "Select a game".
Navigate to C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Deus Ex/System/DeusEx.exe.
Tick the dot next to "DirectX 10/11".
Now copy this file[sfx.thelazy.net] into the System/SweetFX folder, overwriting the original one.

Step 7: Final steps
The new launcher can be used to get a bigger HUD in the game and automatic FOV depending on your resolution.

- Make sure to enable the DX10 renderer in the options (if the game runs very slow, try the DX11 renderer from here.[kentie.net]
- If the elements on the screen are too small, activate the "Use Custom GUI Scaling" option and see what works best for your system.

When running the game the first time, start the Training mission. Press "T" in the game, delete the text and enter preferences. Now go to Rendering -> D3D 10 Support and enable ParallaxOcclusionMapping. This ONLY works with DX10.

HDTP is completely optional since the character models aren't that well done. I would still install it either way. It can be disabled from the options menu so you can see the differences yourself.

Also, resist the urge to download revision. It's garbage.

buy 3 copies of deus ex instead

I've been thinking of starting a replay soon. It must've been six years or so since my first playthrough and haven't touched it since that, even though I really liked it. I can also recommend The Nameless Mod. It has much replay value, with completely new story, good amount of content, new weapons and lots of other cool features.

what the fuck

Thank god other people remember The Nameless Mod. I know the premise tunes a lot of people off, but it's a standalone game in a lot of respects, and I love it nearly as much as the original DX. It really "gets" what was so good with the original on just a gameplay level, with crazy secrets and several ways to solve things, even if the story isn't as much of a literary masterpiece, or has any such aspirations of being that.

Can't, because you're pretty much right.

Sup Forums's fickleness is hilarious sometimes though. Revision came out, and it was shilled by everybody for a long while. Then all at once, Revision was shit and GMDX was being shilled up the ass instead. Now we're back to vanilla with texture mods.

This is like one of those crazy bums put early in a story that foreshadow all the actual conspiracies you find out about later.

>it really is unnecessary

I still find it helpful on saving me patience and medkits/bioenergy.

You don't actually need to know about any tinfoil to play this game.

But if you want to learn about them anyways without getting bogged down in TL;DR, then you're best served watching Bobbin Threadbare's playthrough of Deus Ex.

The guy may go into a hyperbole on some of his rants, but the dude is being proven right again and again. Watch the whole podcast #911 it's fucking amazing.
