I have just impulsively bought this game with no prior research about it nor past knowledge of the series it's from.
What am I in for?

don't fucking play it without having played the first cold steel at the very least

You got memed on hard.

you are going to be pissed in the final 3 dungeons
play 1 first

a lot of holding back

If it's anything like the first game then a boring pile of overrated shit

Head patting.

What the fuck, it's a direct sequel user

You dont need to play Trails in the Sky first, but you absolutely need to play Cold Steel 1

also this

When will I get to headpat the cakes?
>Purple Lightning
>Severing Chains
>Icy Maiden

i never understood why japan is obsessed with head patting.
do they just find it cute or something? or is there some pointless "deep" meaning to it?

I thought it was the first one, didn't catch the swords making a 2 and only caught on when I started on a flashback.
Like I said, no research.

I don't know what you're in for, but I know what you aren't in for.

Anything personal, kid.

user, i hope you know that's the second game in the Cold Steel series. Why didn't you get the first game first?

> he doesn't know the warm fuzzy feelings of getting head patted

your parents must hate you.

This reminds me of the time I bought dirge of Cerberus thinking it was ff VII.

ehhhh...... close enough

I'd rather they head pat me

...

The last couple hours of the first game are a really fun roller coaster, try not to spoil your self too much.

Better Persona
>skipping CS1

I just picked up this one. Played through the prologue and it seems pretty neat. The music so far is especially dope and I love all things Ys so I expect this to be satisfying.

You need to play CS1 first, this is just as bad as playing Trails SC before FC. These games are absolutely not made with the intention you skipped the first game.

Trails in the Sky is wonderful from start to finish.
Don't rush through it, and obsessively talk to as many NPC's as you can.

>obsessively talk to as many NPC's as you can.

Fuck off autist.

Thats the charm in this series, and if you dont want to do that then why play it?

More like she's a sword autist.

Actual characters.
Soundtrack.
Art design.
Sometimes combat.

You know, legitimate reasons instead of frivolous bullshit that isn't even unique to the series.

...

Social links are dumb.

In Persona 4 yeah. they were fun fluff pieces in Cold Steel though.

Rate the Tales games you've played, Sup Forums

Here we go... *breathes deeply*

Trails in the Sky FC: 7/10
Trails in the Sky SC: 9/10
Trails of CS 1: 7/10
Trails of CS 2: 8/10

>Tales games
>*breathes deeply*
bad post user

>implying I didn't MEAN to do that

Trails in the Sky FC: 7.5/10
Trails in the Sky SC: 10/10
Trails of Cold Steel: 7/10

I've played FC twice and it's grown to me. Chapter 1 is terrible but all the others are pretty great.
SC gets a 10/10 because I waited 4 years to play it, I've spoiled myself almost every major plot point before playing and it STILL managed to surprise me.
Cold Steel was the worst so far, the pacing is worse than FC and the characters were all kinda bland but holy shit that ending made it all worth it.

FC: 9/10

SC: 7/10

CS1: 6/10

CS2: 6/10

Great game. But you should play the first game first.

>not having the Toval headpat

shit collage

Its not like extensive NPC interaction/story development is the only reason to play TiTS. Its a big part of what makes it unique, but the rest of the game stands on its own well even without going to every NPC.

FC: 7.5
SC: 9.5

Haven't played CS and CS2 yet because I stopped at the Aureole and need to get back to it this week

Second row, second image. Youre literally blind user

Good taste

>FC better than SC
Gameplay-wise they're the same but storywise surely SC is better

You can't even see Toval's fucking hand. That's not a good capture of a headpat, it looks more like he's patting him on the back. Meanwhile the headpat from the Church bonding event is way more explicit and visible.

kek

>Gameplay-wise they're the same but storywise surely SC is better

Depends on what you're looking for from the game. A lot of people like FC more because it really eschews standard JRPG story progression and is generally more comfy. I think the payoff in SC of FC's set up makes it better, but I can see the argument for FC over SC.

SC is only great if you like stupid anime bullshit. Even then the story was cliched to hell, the character arcs were cringe and the ending was bullshit.

ok, I guess going from town to town solving problems in a laid back way is nice too

>complaining about stupid anime bullshit in a JRPG
Is FC really so different from SC in this regard?

you got that backwards lad, actually no, they're both shit, but the series copying it never outdid the original

Rolling best girl

FC: 75/100
SC: 100/100
CS1: 60/100
CS2: 50/100 so far, but I have just finished the Crash Bandicoot arc. I'm hoping it gets better.

FC 9/10
SC 9/10
CS 9/10
CSII 5/10

>I'm hoping it gets better.
It doesnt

I figured it hadn't from what I knew about the rest of the game, but I'm hoping the Osborne reveal will at least bump it up to a 55, but so far it's barely acceptable tier.

Theres story stuff I liked a lot near the end of the game, but the only arc that gets any sort of resolution is the drama between Crow and Rean. and the more they try to make you care about either of them, the worse it gets.

only good thing to come from that is the fujo girl in the literature club makes jokes about how her fantasies are going to start including those two if they keep it up.

Well so far Crow is the only person in Class VII I could even give two shits about and the only remotely decent character in the entire class besides maybe Jusis if you stretch it, but I think he was too underdeveloped to count. But holy fuck, so far the entire game has been filler aside from the prologue and intermission. First you just go around collecting your pokemon friends, then you go around collecting crystals and that's it. Nothing relevant even happens during the crystal shit besides a completely unrelated and pointless attack on Celdic because apparently they hadn't made the nobles seem like evil badong moustache-twirling hitlers who go around throwing legos all over the floors of commoners' houses enough yet.
