Can we all agree this is the best 3D platformer?

Can we all agree this is the best 3D platformer?

In terms of actual platforming and gameplay mechanics, I agree

i want to fuck that dino

No. That would be the first one. Or Odyssey, judging at this point.

>longjump added back because no FLUDD, but now you can't dive, because wiimote doesn't have enough buttons
>can't jumpdive
>somersault nerfed to all hell, slower with low height
>can't somersault-dive
>nothing original added, it's just SMG but more stars.. BUT MEMBER YOSHI??
>same linear level design as SMG, same boring movement options, same forced pointer and also waggle because again, not enough buttons
>one of Martinet's cheesiest and most grating performances that started with the Wii games

If you were born after 2000, yeah sure. It has pretty graphics at least, and the animations are good. game looks wonderful on dolphin.

>Game that doesn't exist yet is better than anything
I hope you're right though

But Odyssey isn't a platformer, it's an action adventure.

no fuck off
its just linear obstacle courses instead of free range sandboxes like it should have been

hey man both types of Mario games are good

it just boils down to what kind you prefer

Great game.

The Galaxy games have such boring gameplay, I'd rather play 64 any day. Shame, because the level designs are really nice

>it's bad because it's not sunshine
it has way better platforming, level design and variety than sunshine

Absolutely.

go play pokemon go you casual shit
mario 64 was the only top tier mario game so far

sandboxes aren't inherently good you faggot

Are Mario 64 fans the most entitled fans ever?
Or does Melee still have that distinction?

Your mother is a platforming action adventure

The thing about the linear 3D Mario's are that there is no replayability. Instead of replaying and picking up a certain world to explore and mess around in, you're limited to picking a specific course. And for me, there are so many courses throughout that it's hard to pick out those 3-4 ones that you absolutely loved.

I find it strange when people say that Galaxy 2 is better than 1. Galaxy 2 just takes out everything new that Galaxy brought and is just a compilation of levels with some new gimmicks and even less story somehow than 64.
It's 3D World before the WiiU. I'm glad they are trying somethiing new and taking risks with Odyssey because Galaxy 2 and 3D World were too safe.

Also,Where the fuck did you get not being as good as sunshine out of that? He took out Fludd and the dive was in SM64 not just Sunshine. You're implying a lot here user. Sunshine was great though

It lost the atmosphere and the story of the first Galaxy. I don't give a shit about that in Mario games though. Aside from that it's pretty much better than Galaxy 1 in every way. Definitely one of the GOAT platformers for sure.

open ended > linear, full stop

mind telling me why you feel galaxy lack in terms of gameplay compared to mario 64?

I guess I thought it was obvious, but sunshine removed the longjump. Like the other guy said, it's certainly not because it's not sunshine. Now that it's brought up, the longjump in SMG/2 is almost worthless with how slow it is and how little distance you cover, kinda like the somersault.

...

Do you want Yooka Laylee?

Does it emulate well?

fag

I prefer 64 and Sunshine over the Galaxy games. They're still fun though.

no

with that piss easy """"difficulty""", waggling, and super linear levels? not by a longshit

It emulates great, provided you have a good CPU. You can use bluetooth with a real wii remote if that's what you're into, you might find a controller better, but it's not a perfect solution either because the game wants you to use the pointer to collect star bits.

>Can't freely control the camera

Nope. No 3D platformer can be good if it doesn't have a freely-controllable camera.

Not inherently. Galaxy 2 is better than sunshine, I'll give you that. But mario 64 and banjo blow anything post N64 out of the water

But you just said you liked open ended 3D Platformers.

Yep. It's so good I couldn't play any other game for months. Nothing else was as creative or fun.

Sluggish and overly simplistic, I feel like I'm playing a shovelware knockoff. At least Mario 64's sluggishness can be mitigated through skill, and it has much more satisfying movement in general. Galaxy has star-spin jumping shit, but that's no fun compared to 64's long jumping.

What? No. The game is like 60% padding and there are three levels that are any challenge, and those ones are stupidly cheap such as "Get hit once go back to the very beginning" or "Make this leap of faith with a shitty camera angle."

Calling Super Mario Galaxy 2 one of the greatest is like calling Sonic 06 one of the best Sonic games. Sure, Galaxy 2 isn't glitchy, but like Sonic 06, it's anything but fun.

I find mario to be way to stiff in the galaxy games. It feels like even the simplest or shortest of jumps is uncertain because of how utterly stiff he gets upon jumping

Theyre no 64/sunshine but theyre decent. Much better than the nu 3D mario cancer

> But mario 64 and banjo blow anything post N64 out of the water
metroid prime?

fuck u cuck fag. playing 64 doesnt make you hardcore

if nintendo cant make banjo but can make dk64 sequel, then why dont they? please i know im not the first fag to ask this but please xD

same reason they don't make another metroid game
these AAA 3d titles take vastly more investment than 2d sidescrollers like tropical freeze, but they don't have the wide appeal like mario or zelda to make any profit. DK64 was not well received and a sequel would be a bad business decision for a company thats already struggling

I wouldn't even call it the best Mario Galaxy

Sometimes you have to take what you can get. Beggars can't be choosers.

it's my favorite but i like all the 3d mario games a lot
