So I went into this game expecting some star wars faggotry but instead I got some mega deep philosophical game that made me question my life.

was that supposed to happen?

Yes. KotOR II is an incredible experience, and the nuance and deftness of the writing and narrative is something unique in vidya (let alone Star Wars vidya). Based Avellone

Also, if you actually got Kreia's Lesson of Strength on a first playthrough, that's very admirable... except now you also have a Light-sided playthrough to look forward to, at least. Have fun, user!

I'm gonna play again many more times. I feel like I missed so much...

KOTOR 2 is magnificent, what I love about the old Star Wars EU is how it went beyond the movies boundaries.

this dialogue...

>You see, the war, the true war, has never been one waged by droids, warships, or soldiers. They are but crude matter, obstacles against which we test ourselves. The true war is waged in the hearts of all living things, against our own natures, light or dark. That is what shapes and binds this galaxy, not these creations of man. You are the battleground. And if you fall, the death of the Republic will be such a quiet thing, a whisper, that shall herald the darkness to come.

by far the creepiest thing in the game is the fact that Kreia can completely mask her presence enough that Atris cannot even see her the entire game.

disturbing as hell

both Kotor and kotor 2 have better stories than the movies.

That's the point.

Yes. It's a Star Wars game made by people who don't like Star Wars and it spends the whole story pointing out the problems in the Star Wars universe. It's kinda like the Starship Troopers movie compared to the book.

KOTOR 1 would be nothing without 2.

KOTOR 2 made Revan the god he is. KOTOR 2 made all of the lore about the mandalorian wars and jedi civil war so good.

That's true and I like all six films

Kotor 2 is so much better than 1

It's definitely worth it, user. As amazing as one playthrough can be, once you play a couple of times with different alignments and characters, just how brilliant the game is starts to unfold. I'd definitely recommend a Light-side run, a Dark-side run with Mira, and one run as a femExile so you get Disciple (he has some really interesting dialogue and lore implications, it's just that it's nowhere near as good as Handmaiden's)

Poor Atris ;_;
Atris a cute, she deserved a better ending.

"Atris...I have always been here.."

Is Kreia the biggest achievment in voice acting of all time?

Kreia's dialogue is so fucking great. And the repeated motifs in the game - echoes, sound/quiet and deafness (and others senses), conflict, choices, bonds - get more and more impact.

>that scene where Kreia shows she's powerful enough to Force-whisper BETRAYAL to Atris across half the galaxy, without revealing herself beforehand
>that scene where Disciple figures out who Kreia is and guesses what she's trying to do, he confronts her and she casually brushes him off and mind-rapes him into forgetting it all and then ignoring her for the rest of the game[/spoiler]
Even as your mentor, Kreia was incredibly spooky to be around, just from what she did to other people.

>KOTOR 2 made Revan the god he is. KOTOR 2 made all of the lore about the mandalorian wars and jedi civil war so good.
This user gets it. Whenever people praise Revan's character or backstory, it was only the writing in KotOR II that made him as great a character as he is.

>Is Kreia the biggest achievement in voice acting of all time?
Yes, I think so. There are roles in other games that I love, but Kreia's voice acting is literally perfect - in a game filled with other exceptionally good performances (Kelly Hu as Visas mainly, but Grey DeLisle as Handmaiden and Elizabeth Rider as Atris are also fantastic), she still stands head and shoulders above the others.

It suits the character perfectly, it's incredibly memorable, and its delivery gives the right impact to the most important scenes of the game - you can /feel/ her castigate the Jedi Council (or you), her lessons have just the right tone to them, even her smaller criticisms and throwaway lines stick in your head. It's actually a pleasure to speak to her, and best of all she doesn't need to overact or over-emote to have the proper impact.
In fact, I can remember most of her lines from the game and how she delivers them, so whenever I replay the game I hear her voice in my head before she actually delivers the lines.
>Step away from him. Step away!
>There is much weight, much craving attached to such a tiny thing of light. For the male, it seems to have inordinate importance... but we shall leave such male preoccupations for philosophers and cultural historians.
And, of course, her 2lewd speeches are top tier.
>"It is good that you have never wondered what lay beneath her robes, if her alabaster skin was as white and unblemished as her face. Or if perhaps she bore the scars of slavery... and if that would stir you more. Perhaps her deferent tone would change once you held her by the throat...''

do we actually get to see revan at all?

in 2? only in visions.

No, but there's a lot of discussion and conjecture about him and his motivations and goals - and in a nice touch, it's different but equally intelligent depending on what alignment you chose for him.

The scars/echoes his actions left on the Galaxy are more important to the game, and ultimately it's clear that for the time being at least as far as the Exile's concerned, Revan's actions and legacy are more important than whoever Revan is as a person.

Revan is an idea, a type of philosophy.

He's symbolized as some sort of god really.

I cant get into kotor 1 because the story just seems so boring conpared to kotor 2. Is revan worth playibg kotor 1 even if you orefer kotor 2?

This, the idea (ideal?) of Revan is far more important than Revan himself.

It's hard to say, user - personally, I enjoyed it. The story is a lot more straightforward, but it's still handled well and it's enjoyable to play through a fairly straight Star Wars story, indulging yourself in being a messiah or a psychotic in a way you can't in II. It has some great moments and some fun characters, and it's fun to play knowing the twist and picking all the foreshadowing (and teasing Bastila is always fun, because she's a great tsundere).

It starts pretty slowly, so I'd definitely recommend trying it out. Just be aware that a lot of the mechanics are far more unintuitive than in II (class Base Attack Bonus, which is important for combat-centric characters, and how useless most skills are would be the two big ones) so I'd recommend checking out a guide or just playing on normal/easy
