It was in a room full of enemies and I made a mad dash to quickly open it and grab the item.

I probably would have if I hadn't known the game had mimics before playing. Someone mentioned them to me before my first playthrough so I knew to check. The first mimic in DS3 didn't get me but it did surprise me. I check every chest out of habit. I really didn't expect the first chest in the game to be a mimic.

Claymore is an amazing weapon, it trivialized every enemy in my second playthrough.
In the past I just used the Baller Swag Sword, and everything felt like it took an eon to kill. Claymore is just a two hit kill on most shit, and they often get poise broken on the first strike.

I alternate between that and teh swag sword but the claymore moveset is so friggen good man how could you say that

It was amazing versus Manus with the Leo ring equipped. Manus has a huge window after his attacks where he's still susceptible to counter damage, so the one handed thrusts were doing bigger damage than the two handed R1s.

Claymore is vastly inferior to most other weapons until very late game. You wanna talk about trivializing a play through I had the black knight sword my first one. A high dexterity weapon is better since you have a high dps overall. Enemies that matter dont give a shit about poise. For pvp a great sword has merits but the claymore doesnt cut it until ng+. Its not shit so I guess thats something.
I find thrust to be a waste of an option on a moveset (barring pvp). If its a spear or something with a fast attack thrust and long reach its amazing. But otherwise for pve thrust is just gonna slow you down. Id take silver knight sword over both claymore and bss for that reason. PvP I carry the silver knight spear and bss since it covers most opponents.

So... a heavier claymore with a worse moveset, with more base damage, that you can't be guaranteed to get until the end of the game? I've used both of them, the BKS does hilariously trivialize the shit out of the game, but the claymore brings plenty of damage the whole way through the game. Not to mention the fact that it can be buffed, which can usually make quite a bit of difference in a lot of fights.

Plus it gives you a sheath on your back, which raises the cool factor.

Once in the first. Then i learned about a certain charm that let you take the item without fighting the mimic.

Understandable, Super Ornstein seems to have the Sif problem of whiffing every attack as long as you're under his legs.
His ass stomp has less coverage than Smough, and as long as you're not greedy and pay a little attention, you'll probably see them coming quick enough to dodge them.
Smough's charge attack in both forms still fuck me up sometimes, even though it seems like you just need to roll left and that's it.

That kind of makes you think that maybe what your character perceives isn't exactly what's going down.

I have never sucessfully dodged his charge attack. Ever.
Whenever I dodge, his body ends up hitting me, and I take damage. Fucking Sumo.
