Really liking it, it's a very charming little game.
One question though: is the positioning during man-on-man combat just for visuals, or does it actually matter? I'm still at the beginning so I haven't really unlocked many skills and characters yet, but from what I could tell so far it didn't make that much of a difference.
coolest protagonist in a JRPG, not a weeb pussy beta faggot, justa "lets get shit done" kinda guy
Christian Nguyen
positioning can effect which enemies are hit by things like aika's alpha storm but overall not that important.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It's still my favorite game after over a decade.
Adrian Butler
I'm jealous, I lost my copy after moving a few times as a kid. Are you playing it on console or emulator?
Eli Rodriguez
Emulator, I ain't got that kinda money to get a physical copy.
Alright, thanks. I'm certainly enjoying it a lot! Can I use positioning to judge which characters enemies are probably attacking during their turn, or do they randomly move between characters enough for it not to make a difference?

One of the greatest JRPG's of all time
ALL TIME

Was it hard setting it up? I've been wanting to try it for the longest but haven't gotten around to it. A lot of SOA threads have been popping up lately, so I might as well give it a shot.
Xavier Jenkins
I think they simply move to whichever character is closest or last attacked, however this doesn't appear to have any effect on which character enemies will attack next as far as I know
Jeremiah Davis
This is one of my favorite games ever. I have been meaning to replay it. I might do that over the long weekend.
Tyler Evans
Not really. I'd never emulated a GC game before; just downloaded Dolphin, the ISO, and fiddled a bit with the graphical plugin options.
It runs 60+ fps, no hiccups, slowdowns or anything of the sort, perfect sound and graphics, looks beautiful too.
Only problem I've come across is intense fps drop during a flashback/dream sequence, but it didn't last long. So far it's 100% playable.
Jacob Walker
It's been a long time since I played, but you can change who each character is targeting before you choose your action. From there, as far as I recall, it all comes down to the individual speed stats.
Everyone has a ranged attack and a close attack, but there's no real way to control it, nor does it make a difference. I think the game just decided which will take less time - the character running up to the enemy, or just attacking from range.
Also - enemies have elemental alignments, but I don't think they do anything. Or if they do, the affect is so minimal you don't have to sweat it.

Lambda Burst SUCKS

Why aren't comfy adventure JRPGs like this and Grandia made anymore? Why do most modern JRPGs feel more like shitty visual novels with fighting?
it's worth it, if you like turn based jrpgs this is one of the best. It has an amazing vibrant world full of great heroes and villians. It has some of the best sidequests of any game I've ever played as well
Easton Lee
Hey OP - you up for some friendly, spoiler free pointers? Or do you want to experience it all purely? I only offer because there's a really obnoxious part around the first act that I wish I'd been prepared for my first time through.
Kayden Jackson
Terrible combat towards the end. Too much spamming of moves
Jacob Garcia
just did a playthrough on dolphin. Runs near perfect.
Robert Johnson
Not OP, but which part was that mang?
Matthew Rogers
Dont forget it gets surprisingly dark at times.
Aaron Evans
The North Sea and the enemies with Eterni. Didn't have Delta Shield my first time through. Helluva slog.
Kevin Cook
Oh, and this was on the Dreamcast version, mind you. Back when the encounter rates were about double the GC version.
Hunter Collins
Alignments mean a lot famalam. Each alignment has one it's strong and weak against.
Noah Williams
I can't fucking imagine how awful those encounter rates were. I can barely stand the GC's rate
Dominic Ross
oh god that part is hell in dreamcast
Kevin Morris
Why the FUCK are both the revive spells AND REVIVE ITEMS STILL A 50/50 SHOT OF ACTUALLY WORKING
WHO THE FUCK THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA
Lincoln Hill
White map item man, greatly lower random battles.
Wyatt Barnes
Cruised through four full playthroughs never needing it. Kinda glad I didn't catch onto them until later on - game would've been too easy.
I began to reflexively flinch when the disk wound down, signaling the loading of an encounter. Still love the fuck out of this game, though.
Aiden Clark
It was bad enough on the GC, I wonder how people even managed to play on the Dreamcast.
Elijah Sullivan
That only applies to Risan/Risan Crystals, the lower tier of revive. Later on you get Riselem/Riselem Crystals, which revive with full health and accuracy.
Blake Brown
Oh good.
Carson Roberts
I want to consensually hold hands with Aika and Fina at the same time
Thomas Jenkins
I want to protect their smiles. Both of them. At the same time.
Caleb White
I'd like to give them both a hot dicking, if you know what I mean. Both of them.
Blake Mitchell
Obligatory SoA thread post.

You've lost me
