>it's still the best RE game.
nah

Didn't even surpass REmake

You know a game is good when you have a hard time trying to think about anything bad to say about it

sorry, kid. it is.

it's about on par with 7
REmake and 2 are way better

Resident Evil 1 and 2 will never be beaten

I don't think so, bud.

...

what do you people see in the early resident evils
is it like an ironic thing? did re1/2 have better puzzles? how does that make up for the god-awful gameplay?

>did re1/2 have puzzles?
Not really

spoken like a true fucking pleb

there's more to video games than action sequences

RE4 gameplay is overrated. Ganados drop health and ammo like pinatas and they stop running once they reach a certain distance next to you to slowly shamble for easy headshots. Crimson Heads don't stop running.

People don't see nothing in the early resident evils. It's all nostalgia.

what makes re1/2 unique

I love RE1 and 2 as much as the next guy but people who think they're better than 4 are fucking crazy.

RE4 isn't just the best Resident Evil game, it's one of the best action games ever made.

>b-but it's not a horror game!

Good. I was 7 years old when Resident Evil 1. It wasn't scary then and it isn't scary now. An action game is a perfect fit for a series where you investigate goofy Scooby Doo mysteries and fight giant monsters.

the game design in re1/2 is easily better than in re4
and they're actual horror games

what?
it's quite obvious that the people who say that RE4 is the best game ever are the ones that have a lot of nostalgia for it

i played all the RE games recently and while RE4 is a great game it is not better than REmake

the "horror" in those games comes from the fact that you control like an elderly man with parkinson's

>mfw people shit on 5 and 6 while praising 4

u are the kid if u love that survival horror killer. its good game that did horrible things to horror games and its not best RE

>RE4 isn't just the best Resident Evil game, it's one of the best action games ever made.
jesus christ
remove those rose-tinted glasses user

RE4 is a good action game

REmake is a classic horror game

u

So true. Trying to replay these games now, just like with Dino Crisis, is painful as fuck.

its not horrible game play its survivalhorro game play where u are not ninja whit unlimited ammo. u have to control even ur slightest steps and ammo.

...

not him but i just recently bought it on steam and I am having a fucking blast
what's really surprised me so far is the length, I payed ~5 dollars for it and I'm having more fun for longer than I've had with most AAA games in recent memory

can't wait for the hd patch to be released

why doesn't anyone talk about 3, never played it, just wondering

only numale nugamers thinks silent hills or RE controls are bad, they are controls made for those kind of games.

REmake > 4 > 2 > the rest

Yes, what's the problem?

5 and 6 are much shittier games than 4.

Or are you one of those morons who thinks that they're the exact same because they're third person shooters?

7 isn't even better than 2 or 3. Only mainline game I can think of that it surpasses is 0.

I didn't say a goddamn thing about REmake. REmake is not the first Resident Evil game. It's a (very good!) remake that came out years later.

It still doesn't touch the sheer perfection of RE4, a game you can play over and over again and constantly discover new nuances to the combat system, find new secrets, and generally just enjoy the fuck out of over and over again.

>what's really surprised me so far is the length
yeah same
i thought the game was going to end like 3 times before it did

>they are controls made for those kind of games.
exactly
the controls and the fixed camera angles make for the most tense vidya experiences

>sheer perfection of RE4
you're embarassing yourself

we get it user
you played RE4 when you were 8 years old

This is the real question.

i fucking love jack in 7
>*bursts through wall* HOOOOOOOOOOO WEE BOY
>WHATS THE MATTER SON OUTTA AMMO
>SCOOT OVER, I'MMA TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE

Third best, REmake is better and RE2 is still the best.

totally different from a gameplay and thematic standpoint
not really comparable

It's a perfect game and a timeless classic. the perfect combination between action and horror.

>and they're actual horror games
They would have to be scary to be that.

About the closest they come to horror is Nemesis or Mr X/William Birkin. REmake added Lisa, who was...kind of scary at times?

The only real "horror" thing about classic RE and RE7 by proxy is the atmosphere. NONE of those games were ever particularly scary, and even with the limited ammo, you almost always have at LEAST enough to come out on top in most situations, or it's not terribly difficult to run away from the threat. That's why Nemesis was such a curveball; doorways separating rooms used to be considered a way to separate yourself from a threat.

If Resident Evil wants to be scary again, it needs more shit like Nemesis; something that rips you out of your comfort zone by ripping away a familiar mechanic or trope of the franchise.

Yeah I like the fact it's not taking itself seriously especially 4

Ultimately different games. Similar genre but completely different execution. Silent Hill is about muh atmosphere and testing the player's comfort levels. RE4 does do that to a degree but it challenges the player's ability to fight the enemies and maintain their resources better. RE4 is heavily combat based whereas SH2 has just enough to keep you guessing but nowhere near enough to really say it's the focus of the gameplay.

Hey retard, I played Resident Evil 1 when I was 7 years old, when it came out.

If I should have nostalgia for anything it's RE1.

Not everyone is a drooling idiot who can't appropriately adjust their perspectives to compensate for nostalgia.

RE4 is the vastly superior game.

>They would have to be scary to be that.
>If Resident Evil wants to be scary again

stop posting user

2 and remake are simply better
3 is more action-y but all around worse imo

Re4 fags are my trigger, its ok for you to like your medieval Spanish peasant genocide simulator but its not a resident evil game.

it's the last one I liked tbqh, really liked nemesis and the variety of locations

Massive fucking tits.

It feels like an extension of 2 more than its own game, when I say resident evil 2 is my favorite I include 3 in the package.

>Not everyone is a drooling idiot who can't appropriately adjust their perspectives to compensate for nostalgia.

you say that whilst calling RE4 the best action game of all time, which is a fucking laughable statement.
if you're actually being genuine then you need to play more games, mate.

>but its not a resident evil game.

>directed by series creator
>has Resident Evil in the title
>features Leon
>has tank controls

it revolutionized the genre.

5 was much better than 4
Better controls, better inventory management, amazing coop, better bosses, deeper gameplay, harder puzzles (not that 4s puzzles can even be considered puzzles), over the top but not too over the top like 6

REmake made me jump a couple of times and I'm cold blood veteran of virtual and real life horrors, fucking crimson heads man.

5 did everything 4 did but better. Sorry friendo.

>It revolutionized the genre
For the worst, look at 5 and 6, the counter revolution lead by the remake is arguably the best resident evil game

>claims RE4 is the best
>calls someone else "kid"

This meme is posted so often I might actually start believing it

Don't blame RE4 for RE5. Blame Capcom and their stupidity for it. There was countless of critic already at that time that they should focus on more horror elements with their next release of the franchise. God knows why capcom decided that RE5 needed more action.

Yeah, Nemesis was scary. Resident Evil COULD be scary when it wanted to be, but very rarely was outside of specific encounters. Beyond those, it was always just a romp around a spooky house/police station with puzzles that have no place being part of whatever structure they were built in.

Then RE7 commits the cardinal sin of having the "scary" thing (or people, in this case) talk to you and taunt you, which rips away the feeling of being hunted by something with no emotional level to relate to. That was the biggest gripe horror wise in my book. Resident evil excels in monster designs that are imposing, intimidating, and downright otherworldly, and RE7 shortchanges the fuck out of itself on that.

a realer question

max payne by far

What do you guys think of the original build of Resident Evil 4?

youtube.com/watch?v=h_5kwX0LZAc

Max Payne.

well, there is actually horror sequences in max payne. so, yeah, both games are comparable.

I finished 4 for the first time just few days ago. Really enjoyed it but I can't bother to play through Separate Ways since it seems to be just more of the same which feels kinda boring considering how lengthy the main game is already.
Now to 5, is the normal game enough or should I go for the Gold edition? It has some Jill segments in it?

dumb twiceposter

I would argue that Max Payne 1 "and 2" is the greatest of all time

SH2 gameplay/combat is dog shit compared to RE4, but its still a great game.

>franchise stagnated after RE3
>shitty spinoff games being pumped out
>franchise became a joke
>RE4 launches
>reinvigorates the series
>was so good that the sequels couldn't add anything good so their quality suffered
RE4 was so good it in turn ruined/stagnated the genre.

Sure, its not like RE4 and RE5 had completely different teams behind them. oh wait

>one of the best action games of all time

And it certainly is. Sorry you have shit taste.

It's not the like series creator ceased to be involved in everything after 4....oh wait.

not like the*

Not sure how I fucked that up.

RE 4 is the best overall game and it's influence in mainstream AAA games is/was undenyable
REmake is the best survival horror game
RE3 is the most underrated mainline title
RE 6 is the worst overall
RE 2 is the most overrated but not bad by any means
RE 5 was just meh.

U N W O R T H Y
C O M P A R I S O N

RE4 is the most overrated
my good friend

never would've predicted this game would become so acclaimed back when I first played it
I was into it during the village, but got bored and dropped it during the castle

>REmake is the best survival horror game
kek

serious discussion only no jokes man

not joking, this one isn't even debatable. it's a fucking fact.

PAYNE TO THE MAX!

what's better, that or SOMA?

alien isolation

That's a difficult one.
But yeah, Max Payne.

10/10 filename

total overdose

no.
the controls are horrible.
you move as smooth as a tank.

just refunded it ;^)

Of the action games it's a toss up between 4 and 6 for me.

Of the survival horror games it's a toss up between Remake and 2.

Best survival horror multiplayer is Outbreak 1. 2s attempt to add complexity just added problems to an already flimsy game. It's like the Halo Wars of survival horror.

Best multiplayer shooter is of course 6, fun ass modes there.

Re4 is the best for Leon's one liners alone

Why did people think Regenerators/Iron Maidens were scary? You could quickly kill them using the thermal scope and a rifle. I was waiting for them to show up the entire game and got disappointed as fuck when I killed one as easy as a regular ganado.

ooh that reminds me, mgs2 and silent hill 2 are inferior to their predecessors

I really like RE4,but Max Payne is probably my favorite game. No joke. I even love the third game

>I even love the third game
How fucking dare you, man.

I can't help it. The gunplay is good and I even like the story. The multiplayer was fun despite being short lived. I could relate to Max alot, unfortunately.

5 is fucking shit,m8. You have no idea how terrible the co-op system was, especially Sheva's terrible AI.

What's wrong with liking Max Payne 3!

People think its shit because its too different from the noir style of the first two games. It throws the comic book panel cutscenes and the metaphor spouting Payne out the window for a more grounded in reality game. I can see why people hate it,but I fucking love it;
>Max becoming less agile due to his age.The alcohol and painkiller addictions have taken its toll. He's alot more bitter. No time for bullshit.
>The setting change is a nice 'fish out of water' scenario
>The gameplay is fucking amazing,as said before
Although I can see why people hate it.
