Why is there no good horror games in this current generation of games?
Resident Evil 7 came close, but fell apart as soon as you got past the rave house.
Am I just not looking hard enough?

bump
suggest good modern horror games
at some point around 2004-2005 people decided the survival horror genre was stangnant and dead (and in a way it was true) so everybody and their mother went for a more action based approach. It doesn help that team silent was disbanded around that same time and RE4 was released in those years, so pretty much all the experience in horror games was lost, and the genre had to be rediscovered pretty much from the ground up.
>Resident Evil 7 came close
Haha, no. Fuck off.
But you'd think that with the success of PT and other atmospheric horror games that other companies would make an attempt at this. Capcom did, but that's the only game I can think of that isn't some shitty Steam Greenlight game.
Sad that Team Silent disbanded. I wonder what they would still be making if they didn't.
Are you saying it replicated it perfectly, or it's far worse than what I said?
>Resident Evil 7 came close
stealth shill thread fuck off RE7 is cancer
I didn't say it was a good game? I said that 2/3rds of the game was bad. That's not exactly praising a game.
kek
Capcom was smart to notice the critical success of PT and cash in on it, though that would never have happened without the success of REmake HD. Companies just forgot there is a market for such games. Same way how Square-Enix was "surprised" by the success of Bravely default. These morons forgot what made these franchises popular in the first place and went for the common denominator, for the wide market, for the call of duty audience.
Alien: Isolation was pretty good
I'm saying that REVII is overrated. It's shit.
I agree with this, I don't know why Sup Forums was so obsessed with it for a few weeks (And still is)
It was a bunch of cliches, boring one sided characters, gave too much ammunition and health, OP guns, no variety in monsters (Come the fuck on, Florida is full of crazy animals that could've been infected and the most we got was slightly aggressive flies) and horrible pacing and consistency issues.
There's a lot more I could say.
I think it's because companies inherently look to new things because dwelling on same old shit is seen as sign of stagnation. In essence it really embodies that "not all change is good" saying because, like you said, companies can forget something sold well because it was good and they forget about it chasing new fads. I'm pretty sure JRPGs would be close to dead if not for portable consoles.
There are no good horror games.
Never was.
Ebin. Simply ebin.
The last horror game I played was Dream Drop Distance, last bosses still give me nightmares
>Florida
You did play it, right?
>my face remembering how high my hopes were for The Evil Within to save the survival horror genre
That didn't work out so good. Alien: Isolation is the best horror game this gen so far. I did really enjoy RE7 too, though.
Because SH1 remains the best in the genre.
Who the fuck plays video games anymore when you can just watch an LP?
I've been hearing good things about Detention. Anyone played it?
I hope no one on Sup Forums watches LP's. What's the fucking point?
>its an action gore title like dead space
never touched the game after a few hours.
Horror's been shit for well over decade.
The only noteworthy horror title from this decade has been Underhell: Chapter 1, a free mod. Which also was one of the more satisfying FPS games of this decade.
It's not an action game as soon as the alien shows up. And it wasn't action orientated anyway
Not an insta-classic, but Fatal Frame 5 is pretty good and it's the only horror game from this gen I can think of that hasn't strayed one bit from its roots. It was seen as archaic by reviewers for this reason.
I think he meant Evil Within.
My bad
at least the Pathologic remake should hit this year
kind of off topic but are all of the puzzles in silent hill 3 on hard like the shakespeare one? killed my mood to play it when one of the first things you encounter is "are you familiar with these plays, because if you aren't you can't logic this"
can't remember similar ones from 1 or 2
You´re not
Are they fixing the translation with this one? I heard the original translation was so bad it made the game incredibly difficult.
yes. I did hear that they improved the translation with the HD remaster release tho'.
>kind of off topic but are all of the puzzles in silent hill 3 on hard like the shakespeare one?
No. The Shakespeare puzzle is totally legendary throughout the whole history of the series. The rest are much more down to earth and solvable with little thinking, exploration, or even good ol' pen & paper. I beat the Hard mode already back in the PS2 days, and I didn't have access to internet nor any fancy walkthroughs back then.
they redid the translation for a HD rerelease of the game, and talked a lot about getting the translation right this time around, since the crap translation was one of the most common criticisms
The bad translation didn't really make the game difficult (it's pretty tough in and of itself) just made it and the story more obtuse
