I never tested a normal but my slim is so fucking quiet I can't believe it's powered. Even while playing games the noise you year is zero. I'm playing 4,5feet away from the TV and even with the sound off I can't hear the slim (fan) working

It sounds like a reactor on startup but stops after a while, 5 min or so, also don't worry about the smell of burnt plastic, it's normal at least for the first days.

Yes, you can put basically any 2.5" hard drive in the PS4 and you can reinstall the OS if you download it from Sony's site and put it on a USB drive.

I've gotta say though I've never noticed any issues with the sound of my PS4, maybe it does make noise and I don't register it though.

Depends on the game, fairly quiet in a lot of games but almost 360 tier in others (360 without the disc drive spinning, nothing is as loud as a 360 disc drive)

Xbox One is definitely a lot quieter though, basically the only thing it does right.

DA:I has its issues, but it can entertain just fine, would be super cheap now so I would give it a recommendation.

The slim version of Sony consoles produce less heat and noise, and are generally much less likely to fail on you.
It's best to ignore the normal PS4 unless you want to make use of optical out and the Pro's price is out of your comfort zone.
