What are some deep JRPG's?
What are some deep JRPG's?
>Neptunia
>deep
Bible Black was the deepest I've ever been.
Vagrant Story
I get it, you are a SMT poster, consumed by your inferiority complex.
Unlimited SaGa
Depth in story or mechanics?
>Avatar Tuner
>SMT
Okay, you're just retarded.
The best part is that Neptunia is not only not deep, but the gameplay is utter shite as well.
undertale
I think we're getting somewhere now.
Both.
>gameplay
SMT Nocturne
>story
Suikoden III
That is great and all, but Nocturne isn't as deep as Neptunia. I've already played it.
I wish autists would stop getting so triggered when people use SMT to refer to Megaten as a whole. It's not their fault that's how Atlus USA marketed it.
earthbound
>nepdrones seriously thinking their shitty game is worth a damn
Good one
...
Fate Extra
Yeah, because fuck people for not purposefully calling games a part of the series they aren't part of, huh?
you're joking but there are retards who actually think Nepshit is deep
Correct.
Nothing is deep about rerolling the skills you want on demons you want to fuse because the developers refuse to progress.
The only thing deep about Earthbound was going into the vagina at the end.
Baldur's Gate
dungeon crawl stone soup
>inb4 not an rpg
you get levels
Etrian Odyssey
If you don't gain levels then it isn't a RPG?
Actually, Nep is kinda deep. The amount of references to japanese pop culture (not only video games) is astonishing. And some of them are not that easy to understand. I'm not saying they are great games or something, but still.
...
>weebshit
>deep
When won't SMT fags not go into an autismal fit? Just because your SMT game isn't special doesn't mean you have to track mud all over the place.
>Implying any of these are better than FF
There aren't any.
>tfw so smart it hurts
That chart is literally reversed.
Seriously though, these Neppu games all look like slow and boring shit and I actually enjoyed that OVA or whatever.
>dragon quest
>deep
Seriously?
exactly, rpg is about fighting monsters and gaining the levuls otherwise it is an action or puzzle game
user. Chill the fuck out. I fucking like SMT and blanketly refer to these games as SMT. Nobody cares about the specific production details of a series. Move on with your life.
Sure, if you a baby that only plays entry level JRPG's.
>final fantasy is deepest
They are surprisingly well-written, and the plots don't get bogged down in "toodeep4u" so they actually make sense.
Imagine being so intelligent you put trpgs in the same list as regular jrpgs.
Japanese SRPGs are JRPGs senpai.
japanese trpgs are still jrpgs.
>Japanese TRPG
Still a JRPG
>regular JRPGs
This term doesn't exist, there's turnbased JRPGs, action JRPGs and strategy/strategy JRPGs. There's nothing irregular or regular about either.
>finaru fantasy
>deep
>That great time traveling plot
Tell me how they aren't deep, especially since you can go through the game with four white mages.
strategy/tactical*
Explain me what is a JRPG.
Is it just a Japanese RPG?
Yes.
>Is it just a Japanese RPG
yes
Some people will say yes, other will say that anything can be a jRPG if it plays like one. Believe what you wish, there will never be a general consensus.
Fire Emblem, Tales and Trails in the sky are shit.
>Suikoden
>Xenosaga
>Cory in the house: The game
>Kamidori
Its deeper than any FF and SMT game
A Japanese JRPG game is a Japanese Role Playing Game.
Fine fine, FE still shouldn't be on there.
LoH barely get's a pass since it's encounter driven.
What did he mean by this?
>Westernshit
>deep
>videogames
>deep
>encounter driven
Wat
>trails in the sky
that's legend of heroes you faggot, not trails in the sky
trails in the sky is just an entry in the series
Japanese role-playing games are role-playing games made in Japan.
Fuck you, m8.
Sayaka is best girl.
He meant to say that Madoka and Homura should be reversed.
Isn't there a Madoka videogame? How is it?
FTFY
Fact.
>games that don't fit my arbitrary ruleset i made up to apply to somebody else's meme shouldn't be on somebody else's meme
The list is literally just a bunch of long-running JRPG series, that's the entire point, in that regard Fire Emblem belongs there just as much as the rest.
...
There's the side-scroller doujin game by Tasofro. I think it's called "Grief Syndrome" or something. It's not bad. As for official games, there's a PSP game and a Vita game that's very similar to the PSP game but with Persona-esque supports. The PSP one has a translation that's nearly done, I think. From what I've heard, they're alright. Try them if you have the means and like PMMM.

Dragon Quest is literally a shallow traditional, simple story JRPG franchise
Have any of you actually played a DQ game. They are not complex at all. It's a comfy game, but it's all extremely traditional.
At least Final Fantasy tries to be experimental within its own original games and the spinoffs
>it's all extremely traditional
This is what makes these games good. Literally everything done right: the series.
t. contrarian faggots
They fixed that in 4.
It's okay, they made Chrono Trigger for people like you.
I think you mean everything done vanilla. At least go French vanilla or something.
fixed
...
Just the kind of knee jerk response you would expect form a lowly Trigger nigger.
Now back to your petty pursuits, leave the brilliant games to brilliant minds.
>2017
>posting in a bait thread
nearly every jRPG would be better as an anime
mainline SMT has escaped this though
they should all have trash cans next to them instead
Only if anime wasn't trash and JRPG's were good that would be correct.
Dragon Quest wins by default because you actually get to create your party, at least in some of them
So it could remind you of your taste?
>Refixed:the second fixing
jRPGs aren't good because they're too story-based and don't have any mechanics to compliment the combat system (i.e. a Job System or Monster Catching system)
maybe anime wouldn't be so trash if it had more jRPG storylines and settings
What is Ys, Tales of, SMT with press turn, Persona with one more, Final Fantasy XIII for at least changing turn based around a bit, Chrono Trigger with team techs?
I'm playing DQIV and just got through Rosehill's boss fight. Where the fuck do I go? Is it wrong I'm using a guide to get through the game? Will I need a guide to play through later games?
Assume I'm a drooling retard because I am because this last chapter has told me fuck all where to go.
What if there isn't a level and experience point mechanic while being a turn based game and you can still gain stats. Would that be a RPG?
Just give in and use a guide, or talk to everyone again.
You can often create your party in different ways in Final Fantasy. FFI you can choose from various classes, FFII your actions dictate how your characters develop, FFIII you can change jobs on the fly to plug up holes in your party composition, FFV you can do the same as in FFIII but you can also mix and match jobs through mastery, FFVII you have set characters and you decide what they are strong with through the materia they equip, FFXII you develop your characters through the license board and decide what you want from them at that moment.
it has an audience, and the developers know that keeping things traditional is what their audience expects
I just find it boring. Final Fantasy titles after 10, and some spinoffs are really hit or miss, but at least I don't feel like I'm playing the exact same game every time expecting the same tropes from the past few games
I meant jRPGs in the sense of turnbased jRPGs but I'll indulge you
>Ys
Zelda wannabe series with uninteresting combat (much like Zelda); nothing of note I can think of that sets it apart from any other aRPG
>Tales of
pretty good action combat and stories that don't take themselves too seriously given how they just hit the AotS tropes
>SMT
>Persona
I don't know what the hell you thought I meant by Monster Catching but these definitely fall within that catagory. One More and Press Turn are too good in the sense that they give reasons to not just mash X like lots of FF games
>Final Fantasy XIII
I admittedly liked XIII's designs, bosses, and lore but Toriyama did such a shit job on everything else that he might as well have made an anime given how linear everything is. Lot of potential for an incredible game though
>Chrono Trigger
Meh, the team techs are hardly more complex than using limit break-type mechanics. It really suffers from dull gameplay just as much as FF and probably would have been just as enjoyable as an anime
ok, since levels are deep down just gaining stats that would count too
You customize you own group of chaarcters in FFTactics and tactics Advance.
And the freedom you get in mixing classes and abilities is completely unmatched by Dragon Quest. Stop kidding yourself.
DQ games are always charging up focus, keeping your warrior alive, and unleashing multi slash. And magic is heavily underpowered. I remember trying to go Mage in DQ 9, even Sage, is completely and utterly outclassed by the warrior class.
>picks random game mechanic to shit on that's been long since fixed
wew
>jade cocoon
damn this looks cool
