Monster Rancher was released 20 years ago

>Monster Rancher was released 20 years ago
>Tecmo will continue to pretend the franchise never existed instead of releasing a 20th anniversary HD remake with all the bells and whistles
>You'll never know what monsters are sealed inside your modern vidya

I miss it.

FUCK
I NEED IT

I never played the first Monster Rancher but I played the everliving fuck out of Monster Rancher 2.

>having every CD in your house stacked up next to your PS
>borrowing some Godsmack CD from a guy in your Tech Ed class to get a unique monster
>you friend discovers Wrackys are broken as shit and things are never the same
>watching the anime on network TV somehow at 6:30 in the morning before school

Monster Rancher 3 was total shit though.

i used to play this game at this kid in my neighborhoods house until he moved away cause his dad was beating the shit out of his mom

I remember I was so into MR2, that as a kid I saved my money a boight a copy on ebay, around 2000 or so. Was worth it. MR1 was ballin' too.

The anime was rad as fuck.

>10 year old boy kicks monsters in the face
>WITH ROLLER BLADES

forgot

>find a Blue Phoenix in the volcano and it's the first time friend and I saw a monster with over 900 in a stat and it totally blew our minds so the number 917 was an inside joke between us for years; would always send each other messages at 9:17, September 17 was Blue Phoenix day etc etc

>Not even in that Musou
>But like 3 Atelier characters

Acquiring Gust was a mistake

Sounds gay

I miss it too OP.

>playing Monster Rancher 2 as a 11 year old in the late 90s.
>go to the disk shrine and put in Metal Gear Solid
>get a Gaboo that resembles Solid Snake.
>train it and reach S rank.
>after going through so much together, it dies inside the barn in a most saddening scene.
>Felt like crying.

Well

now he's a tranny

so she's probably on Sup Forums reading this right now

>not reloading a slightly older save and freezing your old monster so it never dies ever ;_;

That's what I did after that first initial death. Froze my monsters and combined them with other old ones.

hop-a-bout was fun

>Monster Rancher 3 was total shit though.
Nah, 3's alright. It's just MR2 with decently stylized graphics and evolution instead of fusion.

You're thinking of EVO. EVO was the piece of shit that killed the franchise.

I had a sweet white and gold golem that I got off of a Beck CD. He kicked ass.

Call your friend up and tell her that it's blue-balled bishop day and you're dtf

>Release a Monster Rancher on DS
>it doesn't use the GBA port to give you special monsters based on what game is in the slot

Fucking wasted opportunity. Instead they had some stupid ass drawing board that only counted shit like pixels in each of the 4 squares to summon a monster.

There were 2 DS games. The first one actually did scan GBA games, but I guess the second one came out during the DSi era when the GBA slot went extinct so I assume they scrapped it because of that.

What we know as Monster Rancher DS is actually Monster Farm DS 2.

So the west basically got the inferior game.

Besides that one minor detail DS2 is much better with more Monsters, areas and items. It even had online PvP (without needing friend codes, to boot) and you could fuse your monster with another random player for shits and giggles.

The novelty of scanning a handful of GBA games is cool but it just doesn't compare to the CD method since everyone has access to a ton of CDs. And summoning stuff is like 1% of the game anyways.

>but it just doesn't compare to the CD method since everyone has access to a ton of CDs
Agreed, the whole aspect of doing such (and later with 3 on PS2) is that my father is a huge music/movie buff, so I had just about every CD and DVD at my disposal to scan.

I'm just glad to know they had actually thought of using the GBA slot and wish it carried over into the sequel, but oh well.

Wasted so many hours on this game. Almost went crazy when my memory card with the save of this got corrupted. I cry everytime;_;

>monster rancher 4 is still like $70

A pixie would be pretty cool in that Musou, now that I think about it.

I'd rather see a Monster that isn't so humanoid myself. But the fact that they left even Suezo out of their crossover game (who used to appear as an easter egg in several Tecmo games) is proof Monster Farm is dead for good. That and the fact that none of the creators even work for Tecmo anymore.

Pixie is thick! THICK!

>no Monster Rancher characters in Musou Stars

>No Gitaroo Man in Musou Stars

he doesn't look too happy

I remember my Dad taking me to Family Video after baseball practice and I rented this.

V comfy memory and game.
