There model mods like Rebirth but I find they animate weird on the original character rigs. Too chunky and lifeless.
I'd go vanilla. Characters will look blocky but it kinda leaves more for the imagination?
No mods.
Get off Sup Forums and play it dumbo.
Under no circumstances should you download mods that fuck with enemy models as they completely break the mood.
Do however, install this:

It's not mandatory but it really smooths some of the graphics.
No. No mods. Enjoy the game.
No mads at all.
The ONLY graphical mod I'd recommend at any point in general would be the SHTUP hi-res textures, which is pretty nice, as it sticks to the game's original art style. You can consider that.
The Steam / GOG re-release already has some minor engine enhancements anyway.
SHTUP only makes the game better, and I'd also recommend weapon reskins, since you will be staring at those for quite a while. Especially wrench and psi-amp.
Why not play Bioshock Infinite instead?
System Shock is like, old.
>GUYS GUYS I AM PLAY A GAME THAT IS NOT RELEASE LAST YEARS WHAT ARE SOME MODS TO MAKE IT MORE BEARABLE XXDDDD
if you aren't downloading the steam or gog release you will need ss2tool to fix compatability issues
there is also a texture pack if you are a faggot
why not end your family's gene pool by jumping to molten metal?
Assault rifle best gun
energy, exotic, heavy are all meme tier
That's not really news. Everyone knows the balance in SS2 is about as shit as it gets.
This game is all about the mood it creates.
The constant feeling of being watched and threatened by something is what i like way more than the shitty jumpscare cancer we get nowadays.
The music, the dark engine, the sounds.
Even for it's age, it's still very playable.
Even though it's quite a hassle in the beginning, a psi-build can be real fun too.
No, I know that, user, I was just looking for some basic stuff, like if it has to be patched with fan-made stuff or if it maybe has higher res texture replacements or just plain old widescreen support.
disable the techno music
holy mother of shit taste
Please drink 2 liters of bleach and immediately jump of a skyscraper's roof shouting "I HAVE SHIT TASTE PLEASE KILL ME!".
That depends on what you want actually.
I guess the high res textures with shtup are good as well as the mods who add sounds and music with higher bit rate.
So, nothing that changes gameplay or the original visuals too much.
Maybe the flora and water overhaul are ok too.
However I would not recommend the higher poly models for enemies because their aesthetic is completely different from the originals.
In the end, it's your choice.
Also, if you mod, I'd recommend system shock blue mod manager because it makes modding your game really easy.
The mod that disables infinitely respawning enemies
dont use the graphic mods, they lessen the game. Use the patch though if you arent downloading the gog version. Adn dont watch any yt or spoiler urself. IT's a great game.
Be prepared to juggle the key bindings though because this game is pretty classical in that it's more like DEUS ex than bioshock. Great fucking game. Once you adjust to the 90s UE 1 graphics .... also play this with music and sound ON and only at NIGHT.
disable your life.
Yes, yes, good posts.
Heavy 1 isn't a meme because of a bug that makes the first upgrade for the Grenade Launcher do +100% more damage instead of +10%.
lay on hardest diff, dont use psy, go engi instead.
wrench and pistol/shotgun are your friend
also beware the monkeys
>Once you adjust to the 90s UE 1 graphics
you mean the DarkEngine graphics.
the game has actually pretty good art-design, combined with great audio work and few other fancy things, like full-body awereness
Go back to your console, sonny.
what? This wasnt a modded unreal engine game? I always thought it was. Now that you mention it... Unreal 1 did look way better. Thanks user.
That breaks the game since it's kinda nonlinear though. Without respawning enemies you end up going back to areas you've been to and they're really boring since there's nothing there.
Also you're kind of a bitch if you can't handle respawning, just saying.
...
I read and watched quite a few reviews about this game. I came late to the party and first played this 10 years ago. I missed it on release, but the thing they did really well was make the enemies pathetic. They tried recreating it in bioshock but it failed because bioshock was a bit too fantastical and left 'reality' too much.
Bioshock was a prettier game, but deeply inferior with game mechanics, level design, art design and sound design (even though bioshock had some great sound design as well).
But the biggest problem bioshock has when compared to ss2 is that ss2 is more believable because the setting is pretty hardcore SF. ITs world adheres to one of the tennets of hardcore SF and that is: you can invent anythign you want, but the world has to remain constant. The space station is super fucking believable, it feels like a lived in space station.
Bioshock is more dreamy in its architecture, it looks like a themepark instead of an actual underwater base, which kills the horror element completely because there is no sense of place. And because the place is obviously fake, the people inside are also fake.
system shock 2 is one of those rare games that don't require no mods whatsoever (texture mods are recommended) to be good/playable.
Don't do PSI build on your first run unless you're really good at the game already
The difficulty system is designed well enough that he can go PSI (or anything else) on his first run if he wants. First run you play on a lower difficulty so level up costs are cheap so you can level lots of stats. After that you go to higher difficulties so things cost more to level so you have to be way more efficient.
It's actually really great design. Kinda gets ruined by how worthless half the skills are, but if you ignore that it's great. I wish more games would limit you like it does on higher difficulties instead of just giving enemies more health/damage.
>what? This wasnt a modded unreal engine game?
Nope. It uses DarkEngine, which was first used in the Thief. That's why the "NewDark" patch applies to SS2 and Thief games.
System Shock 2 has terrible combat, abysmally balanced RPG elements and in the end goes full on science fantasy with SHODAN almost literally becoming a godlike reality warper being. Now, this is the part where I'd like to say that Bioshock was at least a competent shooter, but I really can't. I dropped it halfway through because I didn't enjoy gameplay at all. Honestly, I think when analyzed from gameplay perspective, both games are failures. I still like SS2 because the characters and villains are very entertaining and the game manages to pull off a certain mood. And I can't say I hated Bioshock because the setting is just so beautiful and unique, it makes me want to come back to it. One day. But not today, no.
the ending being metaphysical is fine. The first 2/3rds is ace and 'terrible combat', to be honest fps games all ahve teh same fucking combat, I've played nearly every fps game in existence, and almost all of them are wasd + mouse, directional, not very exciting.
farcry 2, RO and a few others stand out imo.
>the ending being metaphysical is fine
I didn't say it wasn't fine. I said it wasn't "pure science fiction", because well, it was not.
>fps games all ahve teh same fucking combat
what???
Like, I don't even know what to say about that. Uh, okay. Cool.
I mean, I'm not exactly saying SS2 is worse than Bioshock. I completed SS2 once (on Impossible) and almost completed it again immediately afterwards (Impossible again, limited saving, gave up after dying too much in the Body of the Many). I didn't even play through half of Bioshock.
does rebirth only overhaul the models or also the levels, objects and textures?
and vastly better than BSI.
Guys how do I download the silent hill 2 sticky from mega.nz, it keeps giving me an error of download limit when it's only 60% through the download rate. Any idea how I work around with this limitation? Really wanted to play that game but the download site keeps preventing me from completing the download
>Any idea how I work around with this limitation?
Get MegaDownloader.
is it a memes or what?
is it a virus? how does that works?
Tried playing some months ago. Was really fucking hard though. What build is the most pussy friendly?
dude just torrent it or something. PC versions are all the same and you will have to do some fiddling with it anyway
the git gud build
No actually it is hard. Go for engi, get early points in hacking and upgrade pistol, use wrench if you can.
>disabling the GOAT soundtrack
I shiggy diggy
>torrent
hmmm
If you're this fucking stupid, you're better off not playing Silent Hill 2.
>I came late to the party and first played this 10 years ago.
Same here. Only decided to give SS2 a go back in 2007 because BS1 was coming out, and I thought I'd "prepare myself" for it by playing the "original" Shock game first.
What I didn't expect was to find a GOTYAY title that I'd instantly replay with joy the moment the end credits had rolled. And just like in your case, BS1 felt like a very dumped down shadow of SS2 in comparison afterwards. Not a horrible game by any means, but step below the Shock games.
>System Shock 2 has terrible combat, abysmally balanced RPG elements and in the end goes full on science fantasy with SHODAN almost literally becoming a godlike reality warper being.
I disagree completely.
For starters, SS2 is NOT an FPS game. It's an RPG-survival-horror hybrid. I actually LOVED how your melee weapons were psychical objects in the world, capable of colliding into environments and objects in it, and how all guns were practically these SHTF emergency tools of destruction you tried to save to the very end.
Shock games are science fantasy, and a sentient AI starting re-forming of the existence using warp-space technology ain't any more far fetched than literal magic tech of 1950s underground city.
What I still remember so fucking well is fiddling with the options in dosbox and then suddenly that menu popping up out of nowhere with that intense sound.
First reaction was : 'Is this part of the game?' really nice, really intense and bold to do it like that. The entire tutorial section is also just BOOM in your face without any jokes or leniency in the oppressive atmosphere. Real classic. I hope they never remake this.
All you need is the dark patch unless it comes with it now.
>all guns were practically these SHTF emergency tools of destruction you tried to save to the very end
What? You get tons of ammo past the first two floors. I ended the game with like 700 rounds of various pistol/rifle ammo, 200 or 300 slugs, dozens of grenades of each type...
About combat sucking - melee enemies literally can't hit you if you move because their animations of moving and attacking are mutually exclusive. Those rumblers may look tough, but in the end you can kill them with a laser pistol, just run in circles and you'll be fine.
I love how the main character is an emotionless wreck at the end of the game. He gets a chance to join Shodan and simply answers with a nah
Is there a graphics pack?
Last time I installed it I had to manually install textures for diferrent stuff, like 10 packs or so and it was really tedious.
Nostalgia goggles.
Start as navy and pick the choices that give you +1 hacking, +2 standard weapons, and then either of +2 agility or endurance (they're both good).
Standard weapons are the only weapons you need so just stick with them. Upgrade when you can afford it, but you can stay at 3 for a while since that's already enough for the early decks.
Hacking is good, try to go to hack level 4. And don't take risks while hacking, just pay the nanite cost to retry. Nanites are cheap, but fucking up causes big problems. Or you can just save before hacking and load if you fail, but that's kind of being a bitch.
Maintenance is good but you can get around needing it early on by just hanging on to all the weapons you find and switching when they break. You'll want it before too long though.
Put 1 point in research but no more. You can skip it entirely if you want, but researching enemies gets you a damage bonus which is nice at the start of the game.
Modify and repair are both pretty useless so feel free to ignore them. PSI powers are also pretty bad if you're not focusing heavily on them, except for the level 1 powers that give you agility/cyber affinity buffs. Those are good since they're really cheap to cast and last a long time, so you can keep them up pretty much permanently. It's way more efficient to just use them instead of putting another 2 points into agility/cyber.
Level up costs change based on difficulty, so you should have a fair bit of leeway as long as you're not playing on the hardest difficulty (and if you're finding it that hard you shouldn't be). You'll probably end up with extra modules before too long, so feel free to level other things that look interesting if you want. Just make sure you get standard weapons and hacking, they're really important. Using other weapon types is basically the challenge build people do when they want extra difficulty.
...
why not just get them via the torrents?
gonna repost the SH PC Guide + DL links now:
SH1 NTSC DDL:

SH2 DDL:

SH2 torrent:

SH3 DDL:

SH3 torrent:

SH4 DDL:

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.
If you use the NEW widescreen fixes mentioned in guide, the sh2proxy's EXE works as no-cd crack too.
In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.
You can now see fine emulator settings for SH1 in the guide. You may also try the newer PGXP emulator for wobble-free PS1 graphics.
Like I said earlier, I played SS2 for the 1st time back in 2007. Got no nostalgia related to it.
The game has a great style and design that just works
no, the problem is the damn download link
mega.nz totally screw with me though
i need to reset my router to get the download link up and running again
so is this megadownloader stuff really works?
It has worked for me so far, but I've also made do without it several times. No idea what your issue might be tho'.
>being this much of a pleb
If you do a build around exotic or energy weapons you'll run around at sanic speeds and one shot everything except the floaty flying things at the end game.
Also stockpiling grenades for the end game and adding just enough points to use the grenade launcher is pretty strong.
>a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
so can i use ds4 for this?
the exceed download limit shit
every time i hit 60%, that bullshit popup
so what version should i download for the megadownloader?
In my experience Mega is a garbage site that wants to force itself onto your computer for no obvious reason. The worst part is that even if you do make an account and/or download the mega downloader they'll still stop you from downloading things larger than 1GB most of the time. Let them install their bloat on your computer and see if it works, or go find a torrent somewhere else, stop asking to be spoonfed.
already install their mega browser addon
really pissing me off with exceed download limit
Energy/exotic weapons are bad. They just don't do anything that standard weapons doesn't already do, except they have much more limited ammo, are available later, and are no good against either organic or exotic enemies. And exotic costs extra modules since you need to level research too. Rapier/shard are better melee options (except for rapier against spiders, because damage types), but wrench is still good enough.
I still do like playing an energy/PSI hybrid though. I nearly ironmanned the game once like that. Fucked up and got one shotted by the super reaver in BotM though.
You're like a retard hitting your head against the wall, asking why your head hurts, then getting told why, and you proceed to ignore the answer.
I love the energy weapons in general, especially carrying several pistols on overcharge and swapping between them to burst down robots.
The most fun I've ever had with the game was a psi/energy run where you max your agi/str stats, get the sanic psi and the one that doubles strength/melee damage and just fly around whacking everything with the rapier.
Limiting yourself to standard weapons is no fun.
Exotics are fun to mix it up a little on subsequent playthroughs but they're definitely the worst class.
You should try out Ponterbee Station if you haven't already, one of the very few fanmissions for SS2 but it's pretty good.
I tried playing SH2 on PC twice years ago, and I remember the controls being awful, both with Keyboard and mouse or with a controller. I think with the controller i couldn't even map the trigger buttons or something
Does anyone have a guide to make it playable in that sense? A control setup?
The framerate was also really bad, I think it was locked to 30 but it felt like 20 FPS. Any way to get it to 60FPS? Kind of like DSFix
probably runs out of RAM because mega first downloads to RAM then decrypts that shit to the harddrive.
gotta use a tool like jdownloader2 to work around that.
___Don't forget to bring the basketball to the court.___
Try emulating it instead of using the pc version, PCSX2 has native controller support and mapping.
Wtf is this shit?
>Every horror game has to have SPOOOKY CHOIR MUUUUSIC.
You got the whole mood wrong. You're notlurking around a castle with just a lantern and hiding in cupboards. You're rushing around with a wench and gun whilst screaming hybrids are chasing you from every direction. It's supposed to be fast beat.
