This is maybe my 2nd time posting here so I guess that will make you think im not baiting.
I have a question for you all: why are you not pirating? Except for the guys that can't do it because there will be repercussions, why do you give money to devs when you can still get their product without giving money? Is this a part of your ideals? How do you even justify that? Im really not baiting guys, just genuinely curious how you actually consciously give away your money knowing that the you can the product without paying a single dime.
Some people just wanna spend money on a game or company they like My 3ds is hacked but I bought the newest Phoenix Wright game
Lincoln Cooper
but how can you like it so much (especially when knowing they care pretty much only about your money) that you justify giving money. i mean its okay i guess if you have an all time favourite franchise where you pay the company every time they release something new, but animything aside from that i just cannot grasp
Brody Roberts
Because i mostly only play indie games who cater to my niche, if i don't put money on the table my opinion has no weight and i won't get more games i enjoy. That's it.
Xavier Walker
because if I really like the game, and the devs decide they don't want to make anymore games because it didn't sell well, I blame that on myself if I pirated.
If its other cancer like Civilization VI. I will gladly pirate it. Firaxis just made a shit game and its unfortunate because I actually liked Civ 5.
Liam Hill
>and the devs decide they don't want to make anymore games because it didn't sell well
how often does that happen? again, im talking about guys that pay every single goddamn time
Grayson James
I like having physical copies of my games. I pirate everything else that is digital or digital only, or if it has online. I also avoid hacking a console if it's too much of an hassle, so this gen i only hacked my 3ds. In general i've spent more than 60000 dollars in videogames during my lifetime so i dont feel guilty about pirating, i tend to want to play everything and videogames are my only solace. Fuck the CEO Chads that want to take it away from me.
Henry Collins
Deus Fucking EX
Juan Watson
honestly since black cats died I haven't found a place I feel I trust enough to get torrents from
or I'm just too lazy to look
Benjamin Jenkins
Sorry i meant "if it doesnt have online"
Colton Perry
what about piratebay? not one of their torrents i have downloaded over the last 10 years has cause me any problems
James Scott
I have a shitty laptop so I couldn't run most games if I didn't buy them for console. There's so few games coming out nowadays that are worth buying that it only adds up to maybe 4 to 6 games a year.
Lincoln Martinez
do you like them so much that you pay 60 bucks just to have a physical copy? or you have money in abundance?
Henry Garcia
I like supporting devs to make sure they will keep giving me video games I like, so it's an investment more than anything.
Though I will pirate first because it's easier and faster than going out to buy for physical copies, and it has saved me from purchases I'd regret.
ZTD for example.
Samuel Wright
oh so pirates are to blame and not the MINDBOGGINGLY RETARDED CUSTOMER PRACTICES???
Juan Robinson
I have too much money, I'll buy 2 games to support the dev if I like it enough
Ryan Edwards
this, I'm retiring at 30 next year, too much money so I don't waste time and effort to pirate.
Anthony Cooper
I have enough money to buy them without fucking up my budget, but i dont have enough to buy all the games, especially the shitty ones. In the end i pirated much more games than i bought thanks to pc and portable consoles, but i still spende a lot for videogames and i dont buy used or through russian vpns.
Ian Williams
If it's not worth my money, it's not worth my time.
Aaron Mitchell
ease of use, honestly.
I used to download games because it was infinitely easier than trying to go to the store, sit there and mess with install keys, call up a phone number if it didn't work and sit on the phone.
Now, with steam, it's like 15 seconds and boom a game's downloading.
That's really the only reason why. Everyone complains about DRM and 3rd party shit but it's never bothered me at all.
James Cox
you dont play a lot of videogames then. or you have really low standards
Logan Allen
Too much money to spend, I'm rich as fuck
Ryan Hill
Can i have some? for research purposes
Adrian Nguyen
If someone has so much cash they give no fucks about how much they are spending on shit who is going to stop them?
Hunter Butler
I'm a real estate magnate, money is not a problem
Sebastian Williams
Because it's the right thing to do to financially support the games I enjoy because I want to see more of them made?
Not a hard thing to figure out
Aiden Collins
i maybe should have clarified in the op that this post wont relate to richfags and indiefags
Jayden Powell
I could buy the entire video game library and still have money left over
Jayden Fisher
That aint even shit, check this out
Some african prince or something sent me an email and for just a couple hundred bucks to secure an account and transactions hes gonna give me 20 million to get his money overseas
Landon Cooper
yeah thats like maybe one or two games if you have any standards
Joseph Cruz
>wont relate to richfags and indiefags because they are too dumb, why spend money on somthing you can get for free? you can then use that money on something else that you cant get for free
Anthony Green
60$ is just pennies when you're at the top of society mate.
Christian Jenkins
I am pirating though, "moral"fags crack me up too There's literally no reason not to pirate >b.but muh devs will go bankrupt just neck urself
Carter Wilson
From last year I got >DOOM (once they removed Denuvo) >Darkest Dungeon >Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun >XCOM 2 >Shadow Warrior 2 >Dark Souls 3 (obviously not as good as the first but still good)
All pretty great games
Julian Clark
I like the packages. Online play and not being gimped out of patches. I'm lazy and don't feel like keeping up ratios. I'm also not going to pay money for a seedbox because that defeats the whole purpose of pirating. Even after bills and living expenses, I have more money than I know what to do with so the cost is negligible.
Outside of that I don't care. All the moral arguments I think are thinly veiled bullshit. I pirated when I couldn't afford vidya, but now I can and it's more convenient.
Austin Powell
who said it wasnt? im jsut saying your a fucking dumb ass if you spend it on games that you can get for free rather then somthing that actualy requires you to pay to get it.
its like saying you dont mind throwing it away because its not that much
Nathan Perez
probably because he has a job, you degenerate
Charles Torres
you can get cars and clothes and groceries and pussy for free too
Angel Young
yep, when you're dealing with millions daily 60$, i don't mind throwing away for a few hours of entertainment. you see the world in a whole new different way
Nolan Ward
I am always pirating and if the game is good I would buy it
Hunter Bell
Hmm. I pirate games because good games will keep being made regardless of whether I pay for them or not. So why waste the money?
If one sale is that big of a deal to a developer, then the game is a failure anyway, and my support won't make it a success.
If one sale doesn't make any difference, and is just a drop in the lake, then the game is a success anyway, and my lack of support won't make it a failure.
Gavin Garcia
>I like lying on the internet no its just illogical to just throw it away like that regardless how much it is, so why do you keep bring up how much you make? your just trying to inflate you ego and impressing no one mate, its quite sad actualy. but youre more likly to get caught, your not going to get caught ppirating games
Owen Reyes
you're a stupid, stupid person
Logan Gonzalez
>7-15 job >huge Steam backlog >very few of the new releases interest me
I do pirate the odd console game to emulate every once in a while though.
Bentley Watson
not an argument
Justin Hall
Like I said, vidya costs pennies to me, when you're successful like me you'll see the world in a different way, you think I'm lying because you're still poor
Kayden Garcia
>vidya costs pennies to me aare you retarded? the cost of video games is not the subject of what i said, i said why pay for somethign when you can get it for free. how thick are you that you dont get that after 3 posts saying that? >you think I'm lying because you're still poor no i think that because you have to keep saying your rich in every post rather then talk about the actual subect matter. you talk like a teenager.
Logan Campbell
>you talk like a teenager. so do you
Jackson Cooper
why are you so upset about shit on Sup Forums like seriously if anyone is a teenager its you get over yourself
I'm not even that guy but you're a fucking sperglord
Luke Carter
For me it's easier to just take the legal route.
Juan Nguyen
Alright if you put it that way, free shit is often worse than things you could pay
I can download and get my games quicker on Steam than pirating. Is that the answer you were looking for? Ease of use like what the other user said
Chase Gutierrez
>i cant handle his points so he must be mad holy shit what a fucking pussy, you going to run to your mother and tell on me as well? >I can download and get my games quicker on Steam than pirating sounds like you dont know how to pirate, but yes thats what i was looking for rather the lol 60 dollers is nothing hur de hur
Josiah Martin
>you talk like a teenager >holy shit what a fucking pussy >you going to run to your mother and tell on me as well? >lol >hur de hur
Grayson James
just wait til you're old enough to get a job, you'll understand more about money and how the world works then
Alexander Harris
op here, to be fair new releases take months to get pirated sometimes and theres also installation time so i guess its fine if you really have like lots and lost of money, it saves some time
Andrew Ramirez
Why should I pirate when I can get my entertainment more easily? Can you enlighten me how pirating is easier than just buying a game off steam and downloading it, at a way faster speed? because I have a flight to catch in like 20 minutes
Michael Ross
>this is what children think is an argument lol
Justin Bailey
Phoenix wright has several entries not brought over. One of which was directly stated to be due to low sales of a previous entry.
Generally speaking I believe people should be compensated for their work. If they do a good job they should get rewarded for it and encouraged to make more in the future. If they do a piss poor job, especially one bad enough that I wouldn't pay for it, then it's not worth my time to play to begin with.
Hudson Mitchell
Voting with your wallet applies to actually buying things you like as much as it does to not buying things you don't like. I've bought every Arcen Games game that has come out, knowing full well it'll be bundled in a month, for example.
Jackson Harris
>I'm not really baiting you guys
Gee, you had me fooled when you don't seem to understand the concept of paying for something you want.
Bentley Collins
Video games are a luxury, entertainment for rich and successful people, people that have to resort to piracy - like people that resort to stealing in real life, are poor, uneducated and easily led folks.
Ethan Myers
I'm a software developer, I know how painful it is to make complex, working software. If I like something, I try to support the devs with the exception being when it comes with bullshit drm like denuvo. That just shows the company was more keen in wasting a shitton on a bad drm solution than on paying devs or artists.
Jaxon Collins
op again, the only thing you are saving is really just a little bit of time like a very small amount, idk about you but i download with the same speed from everywhere (since new releases and most older ones have enough seeders)
Brandon Gomez
>go to skidrow >get torrent that has 2mb down at least >has dlc and updates its just as easy half of the time. your right, you do have to wait for cracks and you dont have online either unless you use a 3rd party client. >just wait til you're old enough to get a job so your going to attack me because you dont actual have a point? nice mate, looks like your the one who needs to grow up
Levi Carter
then whats your stance on releases where the publisher fucks over the good guy devs? for example deus ex md where the publishers implemented breach and the goddamn retarded microtransactions that eidos didnt even know about until it was too late?
Ryan Hill
$60 is approx. 1/6th of my monthly wage, I still try to get what I can and is good obviously. Steam knows and sells at like half to 2/3rds the price in my region.
sometimes people are so ignorant that you know they're not going to learn anything from an actual argument anyway so it's more fun to just make fun of them for being donkey-brained
Lucas Morales
ouch
Luis Miller
Like I said, peanuts to me. I value my time way more than money. That said, you sound very insecure, why do you care about people buying games so much. bet I pay my maid more you get at your job haha.
Charles Rodriguez
thing is why pay when you can get it for free, idk about you but no moral highground will stop me from playing my fav vidya
Dominic Brown
I like the game I buy it I don't like many games
Isaac Kelly
>still relying on ad hominem ok kiddo
William Rodriguez
I've never put too much thought on pirating. Sometimes I buy, sometimes I pirate. Only fanboys and retards get mad when a random dude acts smug around them.
Landon Howard
And that's fine go ahead and do that. The only thing about that which makes you a faggot is that you're acting like you're better than everyone else for it
Jayden Brooks
I don't know since I didn't buy it begin with since I heard it had optimization issues, was remarkably short, and had a cliffhanger ending. Really I guess it depends on what bullshit the publisher injected in. Were the microtransactions necessary to beat the game? Does their bullshit hamper how much fun I can have with it?
Parker Lopez
because its purely illogical to give money for something when you can get it for free without repercussions. please dont derail the thread with insults, i want genuine discussion as much as its possible
Brody Gray
If I'm unsure about a game I pirate it. If it's good then I buy it. If it's shit then I don't buy it and delete the pirated copy because free garbage is still garbage. I don't look down on people who exclusively pirate though. Copyright and IP law is bureaucratic, not moral.
Joseph Sullivan
thing is you can get almost anything for free
why pay? ease, convenience, speed, simplicity, legality, organization, voting with your dollar, supporting your hobby, it's the right thing to do, easier to sleep at night, we're trying to have a society here.....need me to go on?
Alexander Richardson
Are you a teenager? They care about my money by making a product I enjoy. What's wrong with paying to support them and helping to make more games made?
Cooper Stewart
You called me a teenager and a liar when I'm way more successful than you, your thread ought to be derailed with insults
Bentley Lopez
>Without repercussions
Someone report this underage to the feds already.
Austin Davis
no no dont get me wrong, i dont feel superior, i dont want it to sound like i have some secret undertones, i am just genuinely curious about the logic behind this
Jason Hall
OP your mother and i are going to have a talk about raising your allowance this is pathetic
Julian Rodriguez
I just don't care. Sometimes buying game to play with """friends""". (don't care if it's good or shit) Sometimes buying game but it's shit so I guess the next one is better. (don't ask me I know) Sometimes buying game but it's buggy mess so I buy another game while waiting for the game to be fixed. And sometimes I buy game that are good. Well I guess it's nice sometimes. Either way I don't mind, I don't even need to refund because I have enough money.
Leo Perez
dont confuse me with the aggresive guy
Colton Anderson
if you have money in abundance - sure, but not everyone is rich
Samuel Brooks
Because i play Multiplayer.
Isaac Garcia
I decide what I pirate and what I pay for.
I pay for games released by developers I want to support. Lots of them are independent developers, but I do support some AAA devs as well. I pay for games priced reasonably. Remember when LucasArts told us "never pay more than $20 for a game"? I pay for games in making to help them develop if I see a potential or fit one of my favourite niches. Not all of these have paid off, but still.
I pirate everything else if possible. Certain multiplayer games cannot be enjoyed without purchasing the game though.
I do not pay for overpriced games. That includes games released years ago whose prices haven't gone down an inch (I'm looking at you, call of duty, I don't see why COD4:MW shouldn't be fucking free to play already and it costs more than $20 FOR HOW FUCKING MANY YEARS SINCE RELEASE?). I do not appreciate abusive DLC practices. I do tolerate DLC if it's either cosmetic stuff or the DLC is actually bringing a lot of content to the game. I do not appreciate anti-consumer tactics and "suck my dick, choke on it" style attitude towards the playerbase.
Adam Kelly
>, why do you give money to devs when you can still get their product without giving money? Is this a part of your ideals? How do you even justify that? Do you have Steam? Do you have any friends? I do. And I want to show them that I own every game they own because they are my friends, and I show them games they should buy too. Never had a problem with Denovu anyway, that's just conspiracy. (see, cons-piracy)
Chase Anderson
See and It's hard to believe you're not baiting when you're not responding to actual arguments.
Adrian Hill
Because people that work deserve to be paid accordingly, you fucking communist scum Having said that, I pirate plenty of games, but I only buy the select few that are actually worth my money. The rest go into the trash.
Austin Nguyen
I think it's because of steam profiles gaining so much popularity that if you want to be considered a legit pc gamer you will need to have a colorful steam profile with lots of hours in games you played and also shows how many games you bought. Of course this appeals to the lowest common denominator of people in a perpetual rat race in the virtual world akin to the one in real life. I've seen crazy stuff like profile level 800s which are probably going into the 5 digit spending simply on stuff like badges and pins to upgrade your profile, not even counting games needed. But yeah its another way to identify with the crowd and shun the undesirables, pirates, in this case.
>Whats this? You say you play pc games? Show me your steam profile? Oh just free to play titles? Hahaha you must be poor!
Anyway that's what I see with the future. Steam profile is like your credentials now to prove you're even alive. The higher numbers on it the better human you are.
Lucas Ward
This. Got a rep to uphold, besides, money is less important than relationships and connections. You'll figure it out when you become an adult, for all you underage memers on Sup Forums lurking or posting in this thread
Isaiah Baker
op here, ive been trying to be unbiased and calm and im sorry but what kind of vapid turbonormie do you have to be to make a statement like that?
Oliver Scott
>you fucking communist scum >say the poorfag who doesn't even 4K pirating because Suuure. I guess you call yourself a capitalist because you found 2cts back outside. Fuck off.
Christian Morgan
Just take away his pc/consoles. Let him play the shitty free games on his phone and see how much he likes actual free vidya.
Jack Cooper
>only rich people can afford video games >i dropped out of high school check your privilege you rich cunt wow
Ayden Phillips
yeah try living in a country where half the populace lives with the equivalent of 100$ a month, yet still tries to be like america
Grayson King
look out guys he's about to REEEEEEEEE going to start breaking some of mommy and daddy's stuff
