70s - Pong
80s - Super Mario Brothers
90s - Half-Life
00s - ???
10s - Overwatch
what is the most important game of the first decade of the 21st century?

Objectively GTA 3.
GTA3
Portal.
Yeah, I've been thinking about GTA, but wouldn't you say San Andreas was more important?
>overwatch
>important
excuse me
Minecraft
come at me
>Overwatch
Nice try, shill.
Also thought about this one. Perhaps I will make a poll once we have a few propositions.
>90s
>Half Life
I'd put Half Life 2 for 00s, mind you
Without 3, there would be no SA, so that's why I said 3
That was in the 2010s
no. San Andreas was bigger, more varied, arguably more refined, but GTA3 was the first big open city in 3D that was casual enough as a videogame to break through to the mainstream, just like the rest.
Except Overwatch, but that's obviously bait.
Real life has shit reflections
90s- Unreal
00s - Half-Life 2
10s - Skyrim
there you go
Except it was released in 2009 kiddo
10s is actually DOTA2
It has to WoW. Think about it what you want but it changed a whole genre, for better or worse.
Wouldn't genre kinda matter for this? Everquest helped launch the mmo scene back in what, 98' or 99' and look what that genre became.
90s - Tomb Raider
00s - GTA 3
10s - The Witcher 3
I chose TW3 because I'm still optimistic that it will raise the bar for WRPGS in the future in terms of writing, attention to detail and scale. Still hasn't happened yet though...
GTA SA improved on the GTA3 mechanics but GTA3 was the landmark and precursor to many open world games.
I was going by it's full release date in 2011.
Shit?
>Overwatch
Diablo 2
maybe
See
I wouldn't choose skyrim just because it's literally the same as every other bethesda game, just with a new coat of paint. Because of this the game already feels dated. Just look at a recent bethesda game like FO4. You still need a loading screen to go indoors and can't look out the fucking windows.
Since many of you criticize my choice of Overwatch, I also welcome other propositions to what else could be the most important game of this decade
Mos important games by decade
70's - Oregon Trail
80's - Ultima IV
90's - Doom
00's - Grand Theft Auto III
10's - Pokemon GO
Welcome to the real world.
Counter Strike is pretty good actually.
But nobody even plays Pokemon GO anymore. Augmented reality games are a meme. Pokemon GO was only successful because everyone loves pokemon.
The market says Minecraft, and then GTA V.
I give you that i can't think of any game from the current gen to fit the "most important of the decade" but Overwatch is literally TF2 with a coat paint and some CoD elements.
>Pokemon GO
That was a fad for three months and then everybody stopped playing it. it will have no lasting value or importance.
OW is more of a blend of TF2 and a moba imo
Halo
10s - dota 2
Skyrim is a shit.
if you're looking at the population as a whole though, Skyrim was probably the first game that introduced super casuals (FIFA/sports and CoD nuts) to "RPGs". Along with Minecraft it has also been the goto modding community game
You could have argued for Pokemon GO if it had had actual gameplay. A Pokemon game with Korean tier grind collecting, and absolutely no trading or PvP, is not a Pokemon game worth playing for more than a week.
Logic says that Minecraft is from 2009, and GTA V is merely an extension of GTA III
00's: GTASA
GTA3 is objectively the most game of the 00s. No game in that decade shaped the industry more.
GTA 3 sucked. Take off your nostalgia goggles. SA and Vice City were infinitely better.
World of Warcraft quite factually I think.
>Minecraft is from 2009
It was officially released in 2011, and got popular in this decade. Saying it's a game from the previous decade is retarded.
t. not even a Minecraft player
Not one of those are correct
The best games aren't always the most important.
>90's
FFVII
>00's
Oblivion
>10's
FFXIII
GTA 3 was more influential and groundbreaking is what people are saying, of course it's successors are superior.
00s is CS
10s is Dota
>he thinks Half Life had more influence than Doom.
Wew lad.
GTA3, 2nd most important is RE4.
Final Fantasy faggot is here
But Dota was being played in 2003
Not really, WoW was based on Everquest and didn't add real much to the formula until years later. Not to mention the genre died in mid 10's.
Halo for 00 or CoD
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.
>10s - Overwatch
get the fuck out. i dont use the word casual but in this instance you are
Quake 2 is arguably the most influential because its engine was and still fucking is the backbone of so much shit, including Half-Life.
We shouldn't forget VC. That was a pretty huge step.
cool
now leave my thread and go spaz out somewhere else
also, the challange is still open talking shit is easy, but actually providing something insightful, not so much, huh?
And quake wouldn't even exist without doom. That is what it is after all 3D Doom.
GTAV because minecraft didn't came out until '09 and the former is the most sold console game ever
The only moba thing i see in OW is the abundance of characters. But that's it. I think Battleborn and MNC are more of a moba than OW.
Yet the OW "Utlimates" work very similarly to Specialist abilities from COD: BO3.
And Doom wouldn't exist without food, because that's how id was able to produce enough energy to create Doom.
Overwatch was a mistake.
It's a girl gamer/e celeb streamer game and for kids who think they're "competitive"
How does a player base make a game less competetive?
Does the fact that 5 year old kids play soccer diminishes its competetivness at world levels, somehow?
Overwatch is a good game, I do think the people that take it seriously enough to try and be 'pro' are a bit silly though.
You are pathetic. You probably got no friend.
5 year old soccer vs pro soccer are different
For example kid soccer literally caters to their small brains. As does overwatch.
It's a cool game to play with friends but the ranked system is worthless.
The most important game of the 2010s is Depression Quest.
Not even kidding. It was the precursor to the state of modern society.
>10s - Overwatch
80s : Tetris.
90s : Mario 64. This game was the embodiement of what a 3D game should actually be and became a standard model to lots of games for almost a decade.
00s GTA 3/ SA, these games were basically saying "BTW, this is how you do an open world bitches"
10s Meh... Witcher 3 maybe ? This decade isn't blowing my mind atm
90's is Ocarina of Time because it defined the 3D action adventure genre.
00's is Shadow of the Colossus because it kickstarted the whole cinematic game thing, and that's been a crucial part to the growth of the industry when I like it or not.
It's still hard to tell what the 10's one is, since the importance of a decade is usually best seen in how it affects the following decade. It could very well be Overwatch, but it could also be Breath of the Wild. It's too early to say.
>00s - ???
>10s - Overwatch
oh please, the market became so oversaturated with games it's hard to pick one that influenced a decade.
I'd pick Call of Duty for 00s tho
I hate that this is a valid argument.
Yeah I'm surprised nobody threw Modern Warfare out for 00's. That game redefined what military shooters could be, and made so much money it had a huge influence on basically every AAA developer from that point on. There wasn't a huge publisher that DIDN'T have a CoD-type game in the works from 2009-onwards.
>this is a valid argument
only if you never get off the internet
seriously, get off the fucking internet and go outside and talk to people for a minute and you'll see that all the bullshit that pisses you off online is overblown and retarded
>5 year old soccer vs pro soccer are different
just like overwatch played by 'female streamers' and overwatch played by the same bunch of ugly, fat nerds that have game mastered to perfection and that dominate any vidya torunaments
>For example kid soccer literally caters to their small brains. As does overwatch.
The only one with small brain in here is you, your argument makes no sense, even from pure technical point of view. You compare [an activity] for [selected group] to [activity in general].
Overwatch is the same as any other shooter out there, but I guess since you hate seeing people enjoy it in here and making threads about it, you have to come up with some made-up reasoning to why the game is actually shit and not why you subjectively doesn't like it.
I'm very sorry Sup Forums doesn't cater to your specific needs, but this isn't a reason to throw a hissy fit.
Fuck I completely forgot about CoD. Hard to say if it had a bigger influence on gaming than GTA 3 though :/
Dota.
It pushed the MOBA genre and killed MMORPG genre.
how about that brah?.
DOTA didn't kill mmorpgs it killed RTS
I would argue that MMOs are dead because of the stagnation of the genre and the rise of other online games. You can get the same sense of progression and social interaction of an MMO with less time investment from even FPS nowadays.
>Half-life
Yeah, not DOOM or Quake, right? Also if you're going to list off FPS then you might as well say Halo or CoD4 for the 00s, retarded retard
don't be r00d to people
WoW
How about we wait until the '10s actually end before making calls, you dumbass.
>90s - Doom
>00s - WoW
>10s - Skyrim
Dark Souls perhaps? Got memed to hell and back, still played by many people, considered the best game by some, brought in new people to the scene due to its nature, its sequels are constantly debated and one of them has been used to support an entire console for at least a year.
