What went wrong, exactly?

What went wrong, exactly?

Deus Ex HR was critically acclaimed and well liked by players, and the sequel seemed to even better. It had good marketing...

But then, it releases and nobody seems to care? What gives?

Mirror's Edge Catalyst didn't get any attention either, but that can be explained by the shit marketing and the fact it didn't look very good at all, but i don't understand what happened to Deus Ex.

Denuvo.

A big part of why HR did so well was because the devs actually leaked an alpha of the game.

Denuvo and microtransactions

Its a good game, too short, but pretty good.

How exactly is Denuvo a problem in any way if you're not a piratecuck?

>play through game just fine without having any problems with denuvo
>didnt even know it had denuvo because I didnt pirate it
>never any mention of it in the game
Why am I supposed to care?

Pretty much.
It's simple math, more people playing means more people talking about it spreading via word of mouth and generating interest.
Denuvo has locked out the pirates who insted played and discussed other games.

If you can't figure out why DRM might stop a large portion of the userbase from generating hype and therefore free advertisement then I guess you're fucking retarded.

HR wasn't even that good, a watered down version of DE.
It only did as good as it did because of its predecessor's fame and because it was a "new" thing.

MD didn't have that, and was basically HR 1.5. Interest plummeted and so did the sales.

>I can't think of an answer, I'll just call him retarded!
Schools over already?

>mfw the whole series on sale for 35 bucks

Should I?

I hope you're just making shitty b8 and you're not actually this braindead.

AUGMENT YOUR PREORDER
denuvo
microtransactions disguised as preorder bonuses
tacked on multiplayer with microtransactions
game cut up piecemeal to use sections as dlc
clearly unfinished storyline left so there would be easy material to use in a quick sequel

>pirate a game
>like it
>talk about it on the internet
>people that dont pirate or dont know how to pirate read it and buy it
>you buy it later on steamn sales as well

Not an argument.

>HR wasn't even that good, a watered down version of DE.
(You)

They hired a nigger to be the lead designer

So I only played the first mission, can anyone tell me why the HUD is so GOD DAMN UGLY? Human Revolution's HUD was fine, who the fuck approved this new one?

He's completely right

Nobody outside of Sup Forums really cares about Denuvo. Console players don't care at all.

Sourgrapes.png

He's right though.

(You)

>t-the game flopped because people couldn't pirate it!
I've literally not heard a more retarded argument than this before. Only on Sup Forums you get to read shit like this.

>game cut up piecemeal to use sections as dlc
This is what killed it for me. I'll buy the GOTY edition in a year when the game is finished.

>tfw making Prague great again by removing darkies

>asspained

The evidence is there.

>HR sells because it was a pleasant surprise 7/10 game when everyone expected it to be 3/10
>not actually good enough to just do more of the same and actually have it sell

>these logic leaps
(You)

I thought Human Revolution was boring and drawn out so I never picked up the sequel.

It ran like shit for most users and the story was short as fuck.

>I'll buy the GOTY edition in a year when the game is finished.

They don't usually make GOTY versions of games that flop this badly. Even if they make a complete version they're not gonna bother implementing it properly either, they'll always be shitty standalone dlcs that don't let you play with anything you unlocked in the main game. Shit sucks.

Sleazy Preorder shit pushed by Marketing; AUGMENT YOUR PREORDER! TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND YOUR MOM AND DAD TO PREORDER AND MAYBE WE'LL GIVE YOU PREORDER BONUSES.

Sleazy DLC shit pushed by Sqeenix. ONE USE DLC in a single player game? REALLY?

Engine isn't that good. Graphically it doesn't look impressive, yet doesn't perform well.

Denuvo killed pirate word of mouth. Meanwhile, the leaked demo getting into hands of pirates gave Human Revolution a positive word of mouth when it came out and nicked itself some sales out of it.

Lead writer tries to force his ill-fitting Apartheid narrative into a game series that is about the illuminati manipulating the ignorant populace; ironically SJW movement ITSELF is a product of the corporatist elites manufacturing social movements to disrupt and destroy movements which were aimed at and threatened themselves (remember when Identity Politics hijacked Occupy Wallstreet, destroying the original message and drowning out the original voices with a deluge of SJW whining?)

Human Revolution is a fucking disgrace.

>even worse ai than the original
>immersion breaking over system
>piss filter
>press x to win
>shied away from anything controversial

(You)

I refunded this game because of the horrible mouse acceleration issues that delay the mouse movement so bad I couldn't even fucking aim.

>make a game with an unfinished story that sets up for a sequel
>10 months later come out and say "FUCK YOU WE'RE NOT MAKING MORE DEUS EX GAMES!"

What did they mean by this?

Me, and lots of other people here, aren't willing to buy a game unless we can try it.

You know, actually interact with it, see how it feels and responds to you. The sort of things you can't get from watching a video.

Games don't release demos anymore, and they're expensive as fuck ($80 in my country,) so if I can't pirate I don't buy.

There are a lot of people who think this way. I'm fine with buying once I get my hands on it.

>y-you pirates are just retarded!

I don't expect a reasonable response from you.

>was basically HR 1.5
eidos fucked up every thing that wasn't copied exactly from HR, adam shouldn't have even been in the game

>beginning of HR: adam gets thrown threw a building and all his limbs cut off
>beginning of MD: adam dicks around pointlessly for 20 hours and gets zero character development

Bad/little marketing. Didn't set itself apart from HR enough, looked like more of the same. It was my favorite game last year and I hate SE for doing such a shitty job selling it, but also have to blame the dev team somewhat for not coming up with enough fresh ideas thematically.

>>beginning of MD: adam dicks around pointlessly for 20 hours and gets zero character development
Just like the original

It's been 6 damn years and HR fags still have no argument.

...

I didn't mind HR but I can't get into this one for some reason, the story isn't particularly grabbing me at all. I'm not that far into it yet, I guess.

Square Enix got it's jew hands on it, I mean just look at the new Final Fantasy.

Little marketing, bad worth of mouth spreading quickly that the game was unfinished and ended on a cliffhanger, and most importantly it looked extremely similar to HR. Same fonts, same aesthetic minus piss filter, same protagonist, same gameplay loop with small improvements and changes. Even the announcement trailer was cut the exact same way as the Icarus trailer. I think even to a Deus Ex fan (not a megafan) the game looked so samey and familiar it was hard to get excited about, let alone someone that enjoyed HR but didn't get really into it or someone that never played it at all. The buzz just wasn't there.

>But then, it releases and nobody seems to care?
denuvo, single player microtransactions, and releasing a literally unfinished game will do that to you.

as a hardcore deus ex fan, i was skeptical about HR at first. pirated it, enjoyed it, bought both HR and HR director's cut when that came out. MD with denuvo didn't even let me demo the product, and that coupled with all the scorn for the game on Sup Forums means they got no money from me.

Shit story which just abruptly ends without any kind of conclusion and shit characters.

Alex Vega is by far the worst offender. She is completely infallible and perfect example of Mary Sue. There is zero depth to her and she is very clumsily written into the game. Jensen from Human Revolution would have never trusted her like Jensen in Mankind Divided trusts her all the time with absolutely no reason and the worst part is that the blind trust doesn't have any negative effects, you are only penalized if you don't follow her lead.

It's like they wanted to write a stronk independynt womyn in the game and went with that dyke.

>trust the dyke
>trust the fag
so progressive

It's true though

nah

Rekt

it got normies to like le did not ask for this man and DX, mission accomplished

I don't care dude. It's your game that bombed

The alpha leak was actually a huge deal. People raced out to download it, played it, and word of mouth spread. All bad impressions were cast away, most people were left saying "this is pretty good."

It also had a vastly better marketing campaign. The big grand return of Deus Ex. "I didn't ask for this." That amazing fucking trailer.

Most people I know don't even know this game is fucking out, and it's already being steeply discounted.

This game also had a bunch of shit nobody asked for, as well as an abrupt ending.

RE7 is doing well, and why? The fucking demo generated an incredible amount of hype. Devs need to realize a demo of some kind is needed.

HR didn't bomb fuckwit

You can only ride on Deus Ex's success a set amount, then you have to fly on your own. MD couldn't do it, simple as that. Even HR kinda stumbled along the way.

Atleast the fag had a bit of character to him unlike the rest of the entire cast.

I didn't even remember him being a fag at first because it's brought up like once in the entire game and not so in your face as the Mary Sue.

>HR didn't bomb fuckwit

Nah but the multimillion dollar expansion pack for it called MD did. Hopefully those shit developers will get shuttered now that they've done enough damage

I thought MD was fucking excellent, personally. And I expect the next one will be even better.

You should probably stop spending so much time on Sup Forums

Who was gay in MD? Jim Miller?

He's right though. MD failing showed the weaknesses of HR

>le robotic arms moral dilemma is so shallow that it can only sustain one game
>try and do more based on the same DUDE CYBORGS LMAO theme and nobody gives a fuck because it's so hamfisted and overdone after only one game that nobody wants an entire trilogy about it

I like it too. But now we have what amounts to a cliffhanger ending and who knows if/when next game is out.

What a stupid fucking post

Yup, Miller was a fag, there were pictures of him with another man in his apartment.

He's right though. It also doesn't help that literally everyone in the world can't talk about anything but the "muh robotic arms dilemma" no matter what. It destroys suspension of disbelief like nothing else.

All in all nobody can trump DE.

>loved me some DEHR
>hear DEMD is just more of the same
>but with no piss filter
>see it on sale
>oh boy here we go
>50 fucking GB
>mfw

>no counter argument

Game was awesome.
I dunno, just came out at the wrong time maybe.

I really hope you people are underage, if not, wew lad.

it showed the weakness of making a sequel inferior to the original in every way just like invisible war

>half his posts in this thread are just writing (you) to everyone
>calls others underage

You literally haven't contributed anything of substance to this discussion at all. Are you just here purely to white knight for a videogame from 2011?

It's almost like I don't care what you think.

Invisible War was shit because it was too different from DX. Mankind Divided is underwhelming because it is too similar to HR.

Shit marketing coupled with Denuvo and the whole microtransaction controversy

On top of that it was basically a retread of Human Revolution and did nothing new

garbage just like human revolution

If an exact same game as HR came out 4-5 years earlier, people would just call out consolitis. But I suppose it was "good enough" for 2011.

If they really want to cash in next time then they'll just need to bring JC back as the playable character

no thanks, they'll just ruin it, use a clone

Of course they'll ruin it but it won't stop people from buying it for nostalgia reasons.

Not an argument.

MD is the best Deus Ex game. You're a dumb cuck if you think otherwise.

>What went wrong, exactly?

It's a mess of a game. Eidos Montreal are dumb hacks. I have no idea how they convinced a publisher to let them make a big budget game in this manner

>lets make a direct follow up to our last game in a narrative sense with the same character
>people who haven't played the last one have no idea what's going on
>our total number of sales is now capped at the number of people who bought Human Revolution, with zero new audience coming in
>lets reuse the exact same boring transhumanism topic from our last game except now it's maybe kind of racism as well?

What a garbage fire it was. The weird thing is that Mankind Divided would have made sense if it had been made in like 2013. Instead it just feels like the devs got frozen in a time warp and just lost a few years somehow. It really does not feel like a game that should take 6 years to make

Well besides what everyone here has already said, they also wasted time and money on that garbage Breach mode that literally nobody wanted.

Deus Ex and HR were both 9/10

MD was 7/10

DE = 9/10
HR = 7/10
MD = 6/10

INVISIBLE WAR WHERE

DX > HR = IW > MD

Why does Sup Forums seem to hate IW? I haven't played it since it was new, but I fucking loved it back then. It was my first game of the series. I still haven't played the original but I just bought it for a couple bucks on Steam sale.

>best Deus Ex
>discussion died literally after one week of the launch

Delusional.

>I still haven't played the original
that explains it

I said IW was about as good as HR, I don't hate it.

full retard

It runs like ass on even high end machines and everyone has toasters.

>It was my first game of the series. I still haven't played the original

>this person is posting on Sup Forums right now

It triggers you that someone who hasn't played the first Deus Ex is posting on Sup Forums?

>Hopefully those shit developers will get shuttered now that they've done enough damage
Yeah, it's totally the developers fault, and not the fact that the publishers forced them to split the game up so they could sell another sequel in a couple years in a shitty attempt to turn Deus Ex into a AAA franchise.

>expecting the underage retards on Sup Forums to know anything about anything

Invisible War was extremely dumbed down for XBOX.

I thought the sci-fi narrative was fine. It wasn't a good Deus Ex game, but it had some neat ideas. And that coffee shop manager being killed by the illuminati because he dug too deep into the rivalry between Queeqeg's Coffee and Starbucks Coffee will never stop being funny.

You're right, user. I don't know why I continue to waste my time here.

Not an argument.

It obviously wasn't intended as an argument, you moron.

>Yeah, it's totally the developers fault, and not the fact that the publishers forced them to split the game up so they could sell another sequel in a couple years in a shitty attempt to turn Deus Ex into a AAA franchise.

Even if you blame MD on the publisher, HR was still the developers fault.
