Literally very hard to happen
At the very least, it won't be the controls and physics that fuck up.
Not sure how good of a level designer Taxman is, though.
He prefers Sonic CD to 1/2/3&K.
This worries me.
It's gonna get 7's across the board and be forgotten within 2 months.
Guaranteed.
This game will only be tolerable if the level design isn't trash.
>It's gonna get 7's across the board and be forgotten within 2 months.
>Guaranteed.
Why do you care
>a Sonic game might be bad
You don't fucking say.
>Sonic fan
>Not used to major disappointment
The best thing to do is just ignore Sonic games. If it's not a pile of shit on release, you'll hear plenty about it then.
Because I like Sonic and don't want it to be seen as a "flop" or a "blunder" but it inevitably will be.
Kids don't give a single fuck about Sonic.
The only people who give a fuck about Sonic are extremely picky, jaded assholes who will tear the game apart.
Sadly.
It's going to get 8/10 across the board and we will all forget about it in a week, just like Sonic 4 and Sonic Generations.
Honestly I'd say it's impossible for the game to be outright bad. Mechanically it's way too good from what we've seen for that
I liked Sonic CD levels but yes I can see how stop-and-go platforming design focus could not be to the tastes of a large portion of Sonic fans and kill the chances of any sequels from him.
>generations
>forgotten about in a week
Incorrect.
Still buying that OST day one.
You think OP would be used to bad Sonic games by now.
My strongest hope is that his preference for Sonic CD is simply superficial; Part of Sonic CD's allure was being exclusive to a system not a lot of people had, and so it gains "Forgotten Classic" status in spite of its haphazard design. Not being numbered despite being made between 2 and 3 helps that status, and that really cool theme song (SONIC BOOM SONIC BOOM) is helps as well.
Literally 100% impossible. We've seen 3 zones already. The gameplay is perfect and so is the music.
Why would you assume Christian is even the one doing the level design? He's a programmer. They have a team of 6 people working on this game.
Besides which, from what I played of Studiopolis, you don't have anything to fear really. The level design didn't strike me as CD-esque at all.
I hope the whole ost isn't jazzy. We've seen two new stages and they already have similar compositions, where as near every stage in the genesis games took on a different genre
Another bad Sonic game? What an unexpected occurrence.
>this
>anything like 4 or Generations
This is even less significant, this is a fucking romhack.
I played it last night user, it was pretty fun and felt like classic sonic.
youtube.com
I don't think the Sonic fans have been this excited for a while
The music is really boring and standard. Would have appreciated more original sounding songs like we've come to expect from Sonic games.
...
>romhack
You're about 6 months late, the romhack meme doesn't get that many free (You)'s anymore.
A "romhack" is a million times better than what we've been getting lately.
I haven't bought/played a Sonic game since the first Riders.
Considering what the Retro Engine does, it basically means Sega no longer has an excuse for shitty physics and controls in any future 2D Sonic games.
prove me wrong
Aye, you're right about that.
It can't be worse than most sonic games
>prove me wrong
Well, it's literally not a rom hack. You're categorically wrong. It's an engine designed from the ground-up to replicate the originals, but it is not built on the originals themselves. By definition, it is not a rom hack.
>Sega have finally realised people want two things, more Adventure and more Classic
>They're pleasing the classic fans with Mania
>Generations 2 pleases both (in an ideal world)
>New project might be a new Adventure game
Have they learned their lesson?
Are you autistic by any chance?
>hurr durr this game which is trying to be a classic sonic map pack isn't technically the same as all those other sonic map packs so it doesn't count
>just like Sonic 06 isn't Adventure 3 because it's not literally called Adventure 3
Don't sweat it.
When you turn thirteen, you'll stop playing kid games.
This. I would have been much better if they just tried making original sounding compositions rather than "trying" to sound like Sonic CD.
Shadow the Hedgehog is Adventure 3, retard. It's literally using things they wanted to fit into Adventure 2 but couldn't, like the branching storyline/stage system.
level design could be bad
or it could be boring because it's 90% remixes of older sonic levels (are you hyped to play green hill zone yet again?)
what made classic sonic fun was the cool level themes. the television level looks cool and if we get a whole games worth of new levels like that it will probably be good
>Call a game something it literally is not
>Get corrected
>HUH WELL YOURE JUST AUTISTIC FOR USING THE RIGHT WORDS, FUCK YOU
never change, Sup Forums
>2d nostalgia pandering
It already is.
>Preteens today
>Being able to play 2D games competently
Maximum kek. All they can do is Minecraft, they're absolutely shit at Mario and Sonic.
>not liking LIGHTS CAMERA ACTION
>If you play 2d games you're an underage child
>If you play 2d games you're a nostalgia goggles old fuck
It sounds too pretentious.
>If you play 2d games you're an underage child
Makes no fucking sense.
Can the Sonic Cycle ever truly be broken?
>people still give a shit about sonic and are above the age 10
Holy fucking shit you people are pathetic.
>people still give a shit about video games and are above the age 10
Holy shit you people are fucking pathetic.
The Sonic cycle hasn't been relevant for about 10 years, so yes I'd say so.
most kids don't even care about sonic, just autistic folk
Why don't you kids like Sonic Advance 2?
>people still give a shit
Holy fucking shit you people are pathetic.
>despite being made between 2 and 3
It was made between 1 and 2.
>Sonic Advance games
Ew
>those cheers when knuckles was announced
that's the best reception he's gotten fro a long time
It looks great, sounds great, controls perfectly according to dozens of people who played the demo, and the level design looks pretty solid.
Can't see anyway Mania won't be a solid good time. It probably won't be beating Sonic 3 and Knuckles any time soon but it's looking like a damn good Sonic game.
>Play Sonic past the age of thirteen?
M A N C H I L D .
>Play BUTCHER past the age of thirteen?
Average dude.
See the difference?
>Thinks the cheers were for Knuckles and Tails
>Not for the fact there weren't any more characters
Should have had Shadow playable desu, he offers interesting gameplay concepts for classic games, much more than climbing and gliding.
Like what?
>Le 90's revival
I wish this fucking fad would just die already.
Literally the only good Sonic character.
Erase everyone else and replace Sonic with Shadow.
Series. Fucking. Saved.
>*teleports behind you*
>should have held your tongue, eh
Shooting people with guns.
Blaze is fine too.
>implying Sonic CD 2 is gonna be bad
Something fresh based on short range teleports/slowing down time, or a way to have things like homing jump in the game without diluting the purity of Sonic's gameplay. He's got a lot of potential.
I disagree. The only Sonic games which have even approached quality are the classic ones, and the recent remakes of those polish them to a shine and remove many of the flaws.
Besides that, this trend has given us some brilliant games (including the best classic Megaman!)
One or two Sonic games like this are definitely welcome.
SONIC WILL NOT BE, AND HAS NEVER BEEN, A GOOD GAME
As long as they avoid the level design and visual clusterfuck of Sonic CD and just keep levels simple and fun we should be golden.
>people still
Holy fucking shit you people are pathetic.
monkey paw?
>Slowing down time
Sounds like a good way to add ezmodo to these games. I'm down with this.
Wait 4 more years. Hope you're ready for the early 2000s revival.
I thoroughly enjoyed this game unironically. It smoothed out the issues I had with Heroes, and the weapons really weren't a big deal. Vehicles were in the game like twice.
>No Time Travel
>Level design already confirmed to be nowhere near as clusterfucky
Sonic Mania is S3K 2. Or more accurately, it's S3K 2 with elements of Generations 2.
>jazzy, instrumental house music
>sounds "pretentious"
Pretty good taste actually
It's probably going to be good but people will forget about it in a month and we'll all move on as if nothing happened.
Like it's just a sonic game, it's not exactly innovating the industry.
At best it'll continue the tend of mascot platformers coming back.
Somebody red pill me on why Sonic Mania may be bad. Did it leak?
So why hasn't Sonic3+Knuckles been remade in the Retro Engine yet? Music license issues? Sega diverting Taxman to Mania? Angry old Sega execs with grudges?
MJ music.
Did anyone play the Sonic 2 remaster Taxman did? That was a one man show right? So I assume he did the level design for the Hidden Palace Zone he added back in.
How was it?
Why would it be bad? It's basically the same shit as classic Sonic, so if you like that then you'll like Mania.
God 2 Hand when?
>So why hasn't Sonic3+Knuckles been remade in the Retro Engine yet? Music license issues?
Answered your own question. There's apparently ongoing legal bullshit involving Sega, Cirocco Jones, Brad Buxer, MJ's estate and some other people. We don't know the details but Stealth did make a blog post about it once, though I can't find it at the moment.
>Hope you're ready for the early 2000s revival
I'd be down for it if it meant a Mario Sunshine remake.
>Overanimated
>more frames is a bad thing now
fucking Sup Forums
Have you seen the gameplay? Those animaions and framerate look so sexy I want to fuck them. No way it's going to be bad.
Mega Man 9 and 10 led to the death of Mega Man though?
one of my favorite zones. It blends sonic 2 openness with the more structured level design of 3. It had also cool gimmicks
sappharad.com
That legitimately looks out of place in a 2D sonic game and just fucking stupid.
Megaman 9 was GOAT and it sold well too.
sore wa autism desu
Is that a Marble Garden/Ice Cap style endless fall at the start?
The failure of just about everything afterwards, including Capcom trying to shunt Mega Man onto mobiles, led to the death of Mega Man.
I would have played Universe, Mario Maker showed there's a market for it.
What if... they add more layers to the map?
Hihger and mid is the speedy levels just as the previous game and S2 and S3, while the bottom have the stop and go sections of CD with ways to either warp or be transported to the fast top lanes like the tubes in Chemical Plant Zone?
>Sonic has two separate eyelids but only one eyeball
aren't sonic's eyelids blue?
Why is nobody up in arms about this?
Can someone tell me WHY Sonic Team never bothered to use the classic physics engine used in the original Sonic games? Someone said they 'lost' the code to it, but wasn't that a lie? If so, why would they lie about it?
no
there's a bridge over the bottom hole
