I've never understood this meme

I mean it doesn't reaches a dmc-like action game combat levels for sure, but this game is an rpg, and compared to the vast majority of rpgs with action combat it's pretty good.

I mean early game it's kind of monotonous with the lack of moves, and little enemy variety but later on when there are a lots of shades/robots around and the bullet hell kicks in it's pretty intense and there are really no other game with combat like that.

niggers it's set literally thousands of years after Nier, and this one is getting a lot more push. there's no need to get a ps3 just to play the best 7/10 game there is.

And the writing I've seen from non-demo gameplay looks up to snuff

I'm not sure. I mean I have a PS4 Pro and a fairly decent PC but when I play games like those I usually button mash on medium difficulty till the end and I'm bored out of my mind. I just don't enjoy mastering combos and such in singleplayer games.

Yep, that's MGR all right. You could have at least posted the infinitely superior Sam fight with Armstrong.

Nier Automata is very similar; cheesable, shallow, all flash and no substance. It has some pretty cool tech but almost all of it is movement tech (attack chains and cancels to gain height or cover long jumps). It will be an interesting game for speedrunning, but not for fighting.

Unlike MGR it doesn't seem to be as combat-centric, so it may get away with a weaker combat system... Then again MGR made up for its shortcomings with how fantastic Blade Mode/Zandatsu was and Nier lacks a comparable gimmick.

NieR had a "good" "ending", it's just that the rest of them happened to be soul crushing

The Black Box pre-order was cancelled a day before I had the money to pay for it.

That play is a prequel but if it's any clue for the tone of the game's story it's going to be pretty good.

It's not a great fight. Especially compared to the Raiden v Sam fight, or the Sam v Armstrong fight, or the Bayo v Jeanne fight, or the Bayo v Rodin fight...

It's one of those fights that's "hype" but not really well-constructed. All flash and no substance. Like most Raiden fights, you can light/parry spam your way through a solid 60% of it.

Again, very similar to Automata. The giant machine fight at the end is definitely well-presented but you can still just dodge-shot spam your way through it; hell the jet-suit part you can just drift down and to the left and guarantee you never take damage. It looks cool but it offers very little in the way of challenge or engaging gameplay.
