I don't.

[shit about how i never liked voiceacting anyway]

Why is anyone even concerned about this?

>oh no, that guy who reads into a mic won't read for me now, where ever will I find someone who can read?!

Fucking wankers.

>wahhhhhhhhhhh I get paid way to much just to fucking talk into a mic and make noises

I'd much rather have a no-name actor than the same guy in every game I play. Voice acting itself isn't bad, but I don't like the professional voice-acting industry. People say voice acting adds to immersion but having the MC of the last 5 games you played sound the same ruins immersion more than it being text subs.

Since companies are finally taking the hint that movie games are shit, i literally can not care less.

It's only affecting big western publishers, so who gives a shit?

WB is a shitty publisher? Wow, as if the STORE EXCLUSIVE DLC, Season Passes that go over $40, online passes, etc... didn't tip you off?

>Least important part of game development
>Easily replaced
>Most game voice acting sucks or really not needed or just filler
>They think they deserve to be more compensated than devs
>Shit reason like we only work a couple of hours a month so we have no job security
>Our voice is our job
Good riddance.

They can all go fuck themselves.
I don't mind going back to text.

lol is this still happening? could not care less if none of them ever worked again.

'Characters' are the second least important part of a video game. 'Story' is the first most worthless aspect.

I don't give a fuck. I would love to be an actor and make a living from walking and talking. These are ugly people who couldn't make it in (((Hollywood))) so they want to work for a few hours in a soundbooth and then get residual checks mailed to them every month? I think they should eat my shit.

I think voice acting would be better if it went back to being campy like the original Deus Ex and Dynasty Warriors 3

>Western voice acting

KEK

has it done anything yet? I honestly dont know

There's a ton of other voice actors that you hear in like every game.
Tbh I hate hearing Steve Blum in everything.
There's nothing wrong with him, but it gets old, and he sounds the same in everything.

Let them go on strike.
I just want new blood.

Huh, thats alot of people since the only noticeable voice actors is the dude from toonami, the chick from gits, ryuko's VA, phil lamar, and the dude who voiced the bald muscle marine with the big guns

I think it's a good thing that they are trying to get more importance in today's industry but most of them are terrible voice actors, including the main heads behind this strike.

The most prominent problem in this industry is how some jokes artists like ashley meme keep getting high end jobs just because they got contacts while a lot of really good actors are never given a chance to show how good the voice can be for a game.

If I ever get the chance to use voices for my game I would try my best to give a new light to the great new inspiring artists, like how bastion and hand of fate did.

I don't pretend to know the industry deeply, but I'm sure for a lot of devs this is a win win. Japanese import games will instead just use japanese VA with subs instead of getting your regular NIS/Atlus group to do it as usual. They seem like they're catering to the fans and the hardcore which will go down well, they save a shit ton of money, most people don't miss anything. It only affects western-made games like Uncharted and TLOU, games with a budget high enough to essentially hire whoever they want if they really need to. Naughty Dog could hire a no-name and turn them into an overnight celebrity within the industry if they did a good job. The VAs need the companies more than the companies need them.

Anyone could do it. 2017, year of the protest. What won't we protest?

American Unions are cancer, SAG-AFTRA most of all.

why dont they just hire new talent?

im sure theres no shortage of people being able to speak on a mic

I had no idea it was happening.
Still don't think voice actors are anything special. Maybe not everyone can do it but at least a handful of a game's coders, writers, artist, etc. can probably pick up the roles easy.
Like come on its just talking and they can redo lines as much as they want, its not like a live show or anything. No real talent needed.

Screw them. I'm tired of hearing the same five fucking voices in every video game.

>These inbreds believing they're on the same category as A-list celebrities being paid millions for their VO work on pixar shit.
>Literally fat SJW's who don't understand what competition is

voice acting has ruined video games

>>Easily replaced
Yeah, like that one time when Kiefer Sutherland replaced David Hayter as the voice actor for Big Boss in MGSV and no one got upset.

I think that when the game get too big, they try to minimize all the risks involved in the production, so the game doesn't get delayed because some amateur couldn't do his part. They see no benefit in betting in some new talent that could let them down and instead continue to use the most mediocre ones that had a lot of games done.

Because it does take time to find talented voice actors.

youtube "chaos wars" and watch all the "bad voice acting" related videos out there.

Producers and executives do not like running around playing Weeaboo Idol trying to find someone for a voice for something that might not last and will get low pay

m.youtube.com/watch?v=gWL90wryyOw

The whole industry, please.

I play drums with multiple bands for the heck of it and make a few bucks on the side. I'm pretty good for not being in a big band, but I'm a dime a dozen because I'm not the only one who can perform well at what I do for ~5 hours a week. Don't cry because you decided to move to California and can't afford to live in a 2 room apartment by yourself.

And even IF you're not beholden to a corporation, the indie scene is just as whiney. Why is this problem exclusive to video game artists who don't program?

They were offered pretty much everything but the residuals, which was the clearly most unreasonable demand, and they refused.

They couldn't defend the demand for the residuals in an open public forum at all.

This should have been over, but the union leadership is not approaching this in an amicable and reasonable way.

Hayter was iconic as snake, most voice actors are just like used up whores going from job to job.

>Like come on its just talking and they can redo lines as much as they want, its not like a live show or anything. No real talent needed.

That's the problem with today's voice acting. People don't even know the true potential of them and settle down for this mediocrity.

>bloats the game files size
>bloats the development cost and time
>complicates additional contents
yeah fuck that noise

lmao they still on strike???

somebody should tell them nobody buys video games for their acting. this is what happens when movie games go too far, these people think they're real actors. you could round up 500 video game players fucking nobody could name a voice actor besides troy baker and that's only because he's in fucking everything because he and other 5 people have such a stranglehold hold on the jobs.

David pls go

>true potential
like what?
and don't sperg out saying anything about your animes now

>I'd much rather have a no-name actor than the same guy in every game I play.
>having the MC of the last 5 games you played sound the same ruins immersion

>Hayter was iconic as snake, most voice actors are just like used up whores going from job to job.

So which is it?

somebody should tell you that literally 99% of gamers don't share your asinine opinion

Hi David

>implying you can't tell the difference between good and shit VA

I don't know about the money, but I think the demands regarding safety are pretty reasonable.

I forget it's a thing until someone reminds me.

It's a shame, since there are actors whose voices I like that decided to be part of this fucktarded thing. Pic related.

>

you aren't from around here are you bub

It's almost like anonymous posters aren't the same guy
Also, Hayter did sound different as the games went on, whether he meant to or not. By 4 it was getting a bit ridiculous

I for one support the Troy Baker/Nolan North dominated voice acting of AAA games.

RE7 had no names and it's the best acted game in years...

>putting tape over your mouth with some stupid phrase when you're protesting or trying to make a statement

The people that do this and think they're picketing/protesting EXTRA hard because they're choosing to "silence" themselves end up looking like absolute retards when they're the only ones doing it.

>If you hire any one of our union members for your project than you can't hire any non-union VA's in the whole project (except for small NPC voices)
They're trash and are bad for the vast majority of voice actors. Most of the stuff they pull would be illegal in Europe.

I forgot it was a thing. I hope they never find work again.

They should just Hire people off Sup Forums to send in vocaroo samples.

God knows Sup Forums needs jobs and hell, you'd all do it for free anyway, right??

I'm being 100 percent serious.

Like things you can google if you are interested. I ain't going to teach someone about the things they aren't interested enough to know the basics of it all.

didn't they get BTFO by Nolan North

PLAYING A VIDEO GAME FOR THE VOICE ACTING IS LIKE WATCHING A PORN TO ADMIRE THE SETTINGS' THE INTERIOR DECORATING

Why does he go by two different names lol?

It's still happening?

>Like things you can google if you are interested.
What did you mean by this? Where would you even start?

john k has this mentality when it comes to cartoons
which is basically: artists should also be able to write and voice in cartoons

maybe the same could be said when it comes to video games
have your coders be filler npc
more in house talent rather than just bothering to have another person on a paycheck
im sure CEOs wouldnt mind having less people to pay

>Because it does take time to find talented voice actors.
really? youtube alone should make it easy to find good voice actors who expose themselves for work

also that chaos wars vid is just cherry picking
and besides their company got defunct years ago

Since when did Sup Forums get replaced by commies?

That's a dumb question, you already have your answer from each individual poster. Do you think everyone who posts in this thread is the same person?

Seriously?
Phil Lamarr isn't doing Jack's voice?
Fuck

British VAs pulled from the stage for instance. You know, people who are actors first and foremost.

What about safety? I read something about limiting length of sessions to help their voice, was that it?

A professional va in japan can goes on and on for 12 hours straight with occasional break/lunch in between.
These lot doesn't have a proper/enough training to perform for 4 hours straight, they barely qualify as a professionals.

They are in their last days either way with computer generated voice getting closer to perfection, you can even steal a voice nowadays / revive a dead one - just 20 min to copy a voice youtube.com/watch?v=I3l4XLZ59iw

No, he is. I mean he's doing the video game strike thing. He won't do any game voicework right now.

Sorry.

A fun game with great voice acting is no more fun than a fun game with shit voice acting. Sometimes shit voice acting adds a level of amusement.

If all modern video games had an option to display a single screen of exposition text instead of a 10 minute unskippable cinematic, I would be so happy.

I have noticed no impact on my games.

Is Samurai Jack a video game now?

There was a strike?

why the fuck is he even on strike

i doubt he was forced to do all that extra acrobat mocap work when he voiced vamp

Fuck them. Post good voice actors.

Logan Cunningham

Anthony Skordi

Probably also because many of the Union VAs don't really agree with the strike and will still do voice-work using an alias.

Like they already did a lot to get out of the Union restrictions that force them to only work on projects that only use union members.

Apparently television treat their actors fine by his standards while video games treat their actors poorly.

This desu. Resident Evil 1 and Deus Ex threads are more fun because of this. Unfortunately it really only applies to janky early 3D games.

"did you like my voice performance in [top-selling AAA game]?"

"Did you speak within the first 10 seconds of the cinematic?"

"Er, no"

"I never heard your performance. Good luck with your art, by the way"

I would be honored

He is doing Jack's voice.

Is it even affecting anything ?
Really activates the almonds to witness the absolute state of irrelevancy of this strike.

Dont think you are serious, but I'm sure that, assuming they had the time, any voice actor(?) on Sup Forums would love to have voiced a AAA game for free. It's like being Rocky and getting a shot to fight Apollo Creed. You'd only stand to lose your pride as a nobody named "DonkeyPawnch32"

>"Voice acting doesn't matter!"
>every day there are numerous threads pointing out shitty non-union voice acting and shitty animations (which would be improved with the help of mocapped unionized stunt actors)
Really makes you think.

You don't?

It's almost like voice acting is more important in a television program (even cartoons) than it is in games.

im sure when it comes to EA or whatever AAA game company
everyone on the team gets treated poorly

Since when do people buy a video game specifically because a certain voice actor is in it? This is their major reason for striking and why they are demanding residuals. They cite Call of Duty as an example of a major franchise that makes billions. They actually believe people go out of their to way to play it because THEY are selling the game(s) because their acting is so great, not because of things like multiplayer capability. It comes down to nothing more than wanting a free meal ticket.

Plenty of voice actors needed to work as 'scabs' by using pseudonyms, right?

Do that.

Also, depending on the game, use no-name actors, like in FromSoftware games.

You can't really do a long term cartoon without voice acting.

I don't think I care.

I used to agree with the immersion thing, especially in RPGs, but I'm quickly losing that attitude. I'd rather it just be like STALKER or Morrowind where approaching an NPC gives you voiced dialogue but the meat of it is in text only.

"Oh no, we can't release [AAA game] because the voice acting talent is on strike!!"

"just get the interns to do the voices for the release and we'll patch in better voices later, if we can be arsed. Also, tell the voice 'talent' they're fired"

>Since when do people buy a video game specifically because a certain voice actor is in it? This is their major reason for striking and why they are demanding residuals.
It's also the major reason for the companies using unionized voice actors in the first place.

>>every day there are numerous threads pointing out shitty non-union voice acting and shitty animations (which would be improved with the help of mocapped unionized stunt actors)
is there? Closest I can think of is Bioware animation threads but that's just Bioware being Bioware.

99% of voice actors in games are shit anyway.

Why don't they hire proper voice actors instead?

>we'll patch in better voices later
No, sell it as a DLC Voice Pack. This is why you are poor and can't run a company.

>i don't want all these different characters to be voiced by the same person

>i want the same person to voice this character in all of his appearances

WHICH IS IT?

lel is that how you think job interviews are done for voice actors?

I think they're entitled babies.

imdb.com/title/tt0365894/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast

this is vietcong, a good game made in 2002

do you see a single VA that was featured in 100+ games or movies ?

nope, the vietnamese guys doing VA were a bunch of local hired on the spot

but theyre on strike!

enjoy your ashley "i fucking hate videogames" burch voice actors!

Because they are expensive as fuck since most of good voice actors work on animation that makes them work several hours a day to narrate all the possible scenes that will be playing in the movie/series.
