Why did Metal Gear technology regress so far since the 80's? This thing would beat the fuck out of Rex or Ray

Why did Metal Gear technology regress so far since the 80's? This thing would beat the fuck out of Rex or Ray.

Requires too much lust to operate.

because kojima

It would if it fucking worked

Where does Sahalantantralhahahtropicalus fall on the official tier list?

Remember that it didn't actually work it needed a magic kid raped over 63 times to move around.

Naked for sure. Not as good as Ray or Rex, but still pretty fucking good.

Why did Otacon's parents work with Big Boss? Why does Huey look and sound identical to his son? Why does Eli do the same thing at 12 years old as he does 21 years later? Prequel-creep.

right next to shagohod

because he literally said he didn't give a fuck and just wanted to make cool tech

Becse the La Li Lu Le Lo

the 80s were a better time

It's the problem with making sequels to video games. Each new installment always has to be bigger and better but when you make your game a prequel you just shoot yourself in the dick

you know ive still yet to play this game

>solid below naked snake

Nice meme

The anachronism of prequels.
In-universe, it's explained that the most advanced Metal Gear by then, Metal Gear ZEKE, was made by two of the most intelligent scientists of its time, Strangelove and Huey. However, that doesn't explain why a 21-year old girl could completely remodel it to be pilotable (remember ZEKE originally was AI-driven) without anyone noticing. I guess they needed closure.

Sahelanthropus wasn't really usable in any kind of "normal" scenario. Not by AI, neither by humans. It needed a psychic just to make it move.

Yet KojiPro managed to do a good prequel with MGS3.

>Why does Huey look and sound identical to his son?

yfw when you realize he was a clone

isn't rex just sahelanthropus folded in half?

Guys please pre order Metal Gear Survive, it will be very very fun. If you support Konami they will bring over those Pachinko machines to the west.

Kojima knew that he couldn't make anything too wild in MGS3, because it's set in the fucking 60s. I mean, Shagohod was basically a rocket-delivering platform that was totally unsustainable without a ton of support and logistics. Remember it needed a fucking airport strip to launch its missiles.

>D below TX-55
Confirmed for never playing the 2D games.
Both of those fights are meh but D is a clear improvement over the previous one.

That one from Rising was lame as fuck.

Because none of those factions shared their tech.

And rex is more advanced cause its more compact.

Also big boss gears were made without huey, and dont have the same level of funding as the philosophers.

Also kojima made those games 30 fucking years ago.

fucking hell now you reminded me that we wont ever get imagined mg1 and 2 by the kojima productions team.

No it wouldn't it doesn't fucking work. It's a broken piece of crap that requires a superpowered psychic to operate.

It's a bullshot from E3 that will never make it into the final game because it can't work with current technology (NOTE: THIS IS AN ANALOGY, I KNOW Sup Forums IS STUPID SO I WANT TO DISCLAIM THIS)

>And rex is more advanced cause its more compact.

Sal can fold up to look just like Rex...

You know the answer, dumbass. Fictionally technology of MGSV should've regressed, but in reality (ours) the technology used to develop and render games increased.

A.K.A. (the hack)

I think they just wanted to make a cool reference to REX, since it's the most loved of the Metal Gears. REX was made by a completely different group (Armstech and US government), so it doesn't make any sense that a Metal Gear from 20 years ago looks just like it.

Also, remember REX wasn't just like other Metal Gears - the real revolutionary thing was the railgun, which made the nukes it launched completely undetectable, circumventing every single nuclear technology treaty.

yes, but rex can actually function on its own power, Sal only works cause of psychic magic.

Huey got kicked off the team. He had a hard-on for complex bipedal Metal Gear. After he left they became simpler (and probably more cost effective). Another Emmerich got on board and guess what... a Sahel like Metal Gear.

Did you pay any attetion to the plot? The shitty thing didn't work, it was just a puppet controlled by Mantis and fueled by lust

>This thing would beat the fuck out of Rex or Ray.

You're joking right? REX is canon strongest MG ever made, it even literally curb stomped a MG designed to take it down. Sally was a technical failure and you're told this much in the game, it required an Uber psychic to move it and even then was taken out no problem by a guy who thought he was Big Boss, a nobody. REX still kept going despite being attacked by Solid Snake, Gray Fox, and RAY.

tldr: Sally a shit.

Shagohod > Metal Gear

I know all the correct answers will be ignored so I will repeat what they've said:

Sahelanthropus doesn't fucking work. It needed literal mental gymnastics to function.

Without Psycho Mantis the piece of shit couldn't even walk.

It looks impressive as fuck, sure. Even the weapons were anime batshit crazy. But it didn't work without literal supernatural powers.

That's why REX is superior, it actually functions. And it took them over 20 years (1984 to 2005) to get it right.

I still think the way they've put Otacon into the game was completely retarded. Strangelove died for this.
>completely rush this overly-complex Metal Gear
>it can only be AI-operated
>because the cockpit was made to house an AI-pod, the only kind of human that can operate it is... a child
WTF. Couldn't they just put the cockpit outside the frame or something? That's just dumb.

Didn't it literally not work at all and only moved because Kid Mantis was controlling it with his mind powers?

Wasn't XOF under Cipher, which later became the Patriots? I wouldn't be surprised if they had some of the plans for it, and later snuck it to Armstech once the Patriots controlled the US government.

>it even literally curb stomped a MG designed to take it down

I think that was more the pilot than anything else, but I do agree Rex was insanely well made considering it had been sitting in Shadow Moses for god knows how long after Snake fought it.

>special boy animates 20 year old fire zombie
user you're being rational toward MGS

xof went rogue, cipher didnt know what they were doing. That why you took em out.
Cause cipher was behind the whole plot to take out skullface.

Has anyone from this thread actually listened to the fucking tapes?

>You're joking right? REX is canon strongest MG ever made, it even literally curb stomped a MG designed to take it down.

That's just because Snake is a good pilot. Snake BTFO Rex with just a rocket launcher before too, yet you aren't arguing that rocket launchers are superior to Metal Gears.

That's just convenient plot contrivances. The real answer is that MGSV was released 17 years and two/three console generations later, allowing for a much more elaborate enemy mecha than what the PS1 was capable of.

>Has anyone from this thread actually listened to the fucking tapes?

I listened to some of them but don't like MGSV's plot overall so I wasn't interested in getting them all.

Technically, he wasn't really a zombie. Volgin was just presumed dead, and was in a coma this whole time. (Yes I know it's a retcon)

So it's not that he's a fire zombie, it's more like a symbiotic relationsihp.

Psycho Mantis feeds off of negative energy like hate and revenge. Volgin has a shit ton of hate and revenge for Big Boss, even in his comatose state.

So Psycho Mantis lends his supernatural powers to Volgin in the form of pyrokinesis in exchange for sucking up all the thick, delicious hate jizz that Volgin has for Big Boss.

where is shagohod on this im drunk as fuck

Because Snake was about to lose that fight if it wasn't for Gray Fox and his combination of a super advanced Exoskeleton and his Megabuster. Without Fox, REX would have won.

I don't know user it wasn't just some random pilot but Ocelot of all people.

Of course. I wasn't arguing against that. I'm just stating what the explanation was, in-game and in-context. And it works, or at least it isn't a super complete ass-pull.

It's actually a nice subversion of the "prequel game made years after the original having better technology than the original" trope. Yeah, Sally is much more elaborate but it's a piece a shit that needs magic to work. I like it

RAY was made to destroy REX's knockoffs, not the real thing. Remember REX's plans were being sold on the black market after Shadow Moses fell, so the Marines comissioned RAY to take down those knockoffs. Also, RAY's plan of attack was to dogpile on a single REX knockoff with many RAY units, not fight them one-on-one.

Shagohod isn't a Metal Gear because it isn't bipedal. Also the way it launches the nuke is completely different.

TL;DR it needs to get a running start on an airfield strip to launch its missiles.

only reason walking gears exist is because this guy had a raging boner for bipedal robots.

"a Metal Gear to fight other Metal Gears" is what is said, REX is a Metal Gear but it couldn't handle it. Also the multiple RAY's had nothing to do with the Marine RAY, they just took it and mass produced it.

You're forgetting the drunken russian from MGS3.

>Excelsus
>Not shit tier
Pick one.

Takes real genius to make a design work.

"REX derivatives" and "REX knockoffs" are both used in-game.

It only worked because lil psycho mantis made it work.

>JUST LIKE MY ANIMES

It couldn't exist without him, sure, but he did have a boner for bipeds.
False.

Because REX was out of action but if it was in active service it would have been a part of the "hit list" hence the "MG to fight other MGs" no exemptions.

>be vegetable for 20 years
>wake up fukken ripped because wraith jr
al...right
I know what you're saying though

Not really. Mantis-powered Sally is strong as fuck so It vs Rex is kind of ambiguous
Ray is trash though. It's just a mass-produced military mech as of now

I was sort of fine with it.

Up until it unsheathes its katana-whip and casts earth fissure magic at you. Overall the Mantis shit was beyond retarded.

He's right though.

The original REX was top secret. RAY was built in response to the shitty third world country bootleg REX derivatives, not in response to the original REX.

So when the time came that the original REX (plus Solid Snake piloting it and Otacon's guidance) fought RAY, the original won. And even then, REX was fucked up even more and Solid was severely injured.

Because Kojima is a hack and didnt plan ahead. 2 was supposed to be the ending.

if it was capable of a speed between crawling and rocket boosting then maybe but it's greatest flaw is it cant turn effectively without stopping. Granin was right, a tank needed legs

2 was the worst MGS game he put out.

>2 was supposed to be the ending

there is no way in fuck the "ending" would introduce more plot holes and loose ends than it started with

Its obvious that Huey helped her, that traitorous fuck.

Wait I just remembered MGS5 exists I take it back.

I guess it was supposed to be the ending!

thanks senpai

War has changed. It's not about national or ethnic sense. Mapping of the endless series of wars, wars between terrorists and machinery. War consumed his life, has become a well oiled. War has changed. ID tag ID tag that soldiers with weapons, instruments ID-tagged. Nanomachines body and increase their skills. Genetic control. Information management. Control emotions. Control the battlefield. All are kept under supervision and control. War has changed. Age does not control age. WMD problems in retirement. And who controls the battlefield, controls history. War has changed. Control is war became normal

Kojima didn't want to be held back by the time period. He killed his own continuity with this BS. MGSV really sucked a big fat one.

Pretty sure 2 wasn't the ending, seeing as how it ended with a 100 cliffhangers.

Pretty sure he didn't plan where they were going though. He did MGS3 to buy himself some time, but even then he never figured out how to save the mess that was MGS2s ending.

No fucking shit dumbass

Let's be honest here. Any explanation for Ocelot's arm possession was going to be underwhelming no matter what. It's a plot twist that really shouldn't had been made in the first place.

>I was just pretending to be retarded

Classic Ocelot

This. It reminds me of the show Lost. It is a hell of a lot easier to make up cool mysteries than it is to resolve them.

what's that ball on its shoulder for?

Who is the dumbass here? The person who accept plot inconsistencies for what they are, or idiots like you who try to make sense out of a fucking video game series that the author didn't bother to keep consistent in the first place?

I prefer the original explanation they hinted at with MGS3.

Since Ocelot is the Sorrow's son, he inherited his spirit medium abilities and that's how Liquid possessed Ocelot: through the surgically attached arm.

radome

Sons tend to take after their fathers by a large margin, as do daughters their mothers.

That would have been so much better than what we got

That is actually pretty plausible, considering Otacon is roughly the same age as Solid and Huey knew BB before les enfants terribles. And it would even make sense seeing how Huey stood. You could even argue that's the reason why Huey didn't seem to care too much about Otacon during the events of MGS V bc he isn't his son, but a mere clone. While he does not see himself as his father, he sure as hell can't leave him to the patriots or other powers.

Don't you fucking dare talk shit about ZEKE.

None of this is plausible, because it's already explained away that Huey is just a piece of shit that had no regard for others than himself, plus there was no fucking clone-project put in place to create a cripple-clone.

Otacon takes after his dad because guess fucking what, that's usually how children and parents work.

>(Moos in the distance)

>cripple-clone.
a waepin 2 surpus metil gaer

>None of this is plausible, because it's already explained away that Huey is just a piece of shit that had no regard for others than himself, plus there was no fucking clone-project put in place to create a cripple-clone.
Well him being a piece of shit doesn't change anything regarding this theory. And I don't remember if Huey was a cripple from birth or bc of an illness/accident. If it was one of the latter, a clone would be perfectly fine.
Well there was no clone-project? Who says that? It's not like they would tell everybody. What is also strange is that Huey seems to have been puts up an act through MGS V. The question you should ask is "why?". I think he was involved in the les enfants terribles project and agreed to get cloned himself, while BB was cloned against his will. Huey fears BB, bc he fears he might find out one day.

Because huey was the best scientist. Check mate. That couldn't be mass produced like ray either.

>"Sutherland tier"
But Kiefer is superior to you in every way, Hayter.

I thought the shalahanthapolopodonomonopus was an engineering disaster that could only function with loli psychic magic.

That moment when you realize that the canon ending of MGS 3 is Skeletor going to Novigrad and killing every one you spared in your no-kill-run.

btw. Why did Skeletor start to wear the eyemask an the head. Did Major Zero tell him about Zorro?

I'm convinced that I'm not attracted to women anymore, just long socks.

>$160

*shota psychic magic
Get your facts straight, MGS lore is serious business.

It's pretty clear throughout MGS5 that Zero and his organization have far more advanced technology than anyone else at the time. They're really good at not only developing new tech, but also suppressing technology that could challenge their superiority. They did that with cyborg tech, which was only made available outside the Patriots organization once the Patriot AIs were destroyed, which is why Raiden is a super advanced cyborg in MGS4 despite there not being any other cyborgs. The same goes for Arsenal Gear in MSG2, and FOXDIE in MGS1. REX is also Patriot tech, but basically just a miniature Sahelanthropus that's not as good as the original and may have been built out of its scraps (the REX head is identical to the Sahelanthropus one).

This isn't anything new to the series. The Patriots have always had a monopoly on advanced science and technology.

OP BTFO

Why does everything in the Star Wars prequels look distinctly more high tech than the originals? Because what we perceive as futuristic design has changed and graphical technology has improved.

>"I proudly wear my visage"
>puts on a mask

Okay but what about the phantom cigar or the fuckibg holo projecting box? Do those only work on lust too?
