And everywhere outside of Sup Forums it's "bethesda is one the best devs out there, don't listen to the trolls" what the fuck is wrong with those people?
I like bethesda games. Then again I was thirteen years old when Fallout 3 came out. Still though even when I was younger I played the shit out of Pirates of the Caribbean.
They're fun.
Elijah Cook
Normies still love open-world games, and pretty much the only big devs who make them are Beth and Ubishit
Cooper Gutierrez
If we're looking at Fallout 4... >significantly improved graphics, terrible optimization >acceptable animation >acceptable but lazy writing >decent enough engine >mediocre gameplay >relatively free of major bugs >free mod support on all systems
The only thing they objectively do wrong is game design.
Hunter Wilson
It's funny since Obsidian's New Vegas has all the same problems but instead of "terrible writing" it is "alright writing" yet a lot of people act like it's completely different and miles better.
Brayden Barnes
>acceptable animation Pic related I'm not even going to go into why the writing is completely fucking awful and even worse than 3
Dominic Reed
>the only thing these game devs do wrong is that their games are bad also >relatively free of major bugs >decent enough engine >acceptable animation >free mod support on all systems what?
Josiah Thompson
>relatively free of major bugs >glitch with science bobble head made it inaccessible first week >wasn't patched FOR MONTHS
Sebastian Brown
DELET THIS
Luis Rogers
>yet a lot of people act like it's completely different and miles better.
Last I checked, NV had much more content than 3, in addition to new mechanics that allowed for better roleplaying. Sure, it's the same engine and setting, but otherwise there's a lot of gameplay changes that make it better.
Nicholas Moore
You're basically taking a shit and polishing it. It's still fucking shit.
Show me ONE AAA game with animation this bad, from the year 2015, or from any year at all. This looks so bad it's unbelievable, it's like they made it shit on purpose.
Matthew Diaz
they literally didn't even make any animations. they tried to do a procedural lipsync thing like in half-life 2
Alexander Hill
Who would win? Bethesda or a ladder?
Jordan James
I can't really talk shit about them because I have over 1,000 hours in Skyrim... All I'll really say is they are terrible developers, but they make a solid platform and actively work with modders to make their games actually good.
Kayden Green
I don't know. If a bunch of Feminist SJW hacks can convince the gaming media and devs to give a shit about them, why can't Sup Forums and others just do the same? Shouldn't be that hard.
Not that I expect Sup Forums to ever try anything beyond just sitting here moaning about the matter instead of doing something about it. Don't give me that "IT WON'T HABBEN BECAUSE BETH ONLY CARES ABOUT DOSH". If you haven't tried getting their attention and letting them directly know what's wrong, then you have no excuse to say that.
Easton Reyes
Mostly tasteless normies, with no standars.
Jordan Butler
This. Open-world games that are easy to pick up are the favorite of normies.
Oliver Murphy
This.
Julian Young
>And everywhere outside of Sup Forums it's "bethesda is one the best devs out there, don't listen to the trolls" Is this true? I've never discussed video games anywhere but here.
Owen Nelson
Funny that you say all of this because my list of favourite RPGs includes both Morrowind and Skyrim. Without mods.
Adam Perry
because they are the only AAA company to do something resembling open world RPGs
none of their games are good but they're all people have
Nicholas Wilson
>And everywhere outside of Sup Forums it's "bethesda is one the best devs out there, don't listen to the trolls" what the fuck is wrong with those people?
maybe its because Sup Forums is a full of contrarians in an echo chamber that are out of touch with the real world because they live in their mom's basements.
Jason Bennett
Women Modding virgins
Try telling a woman Skyrim is shit
Grayson Watson
Yes.
Joshua Collins
Pretty much. Ask almost any non-Sup Forums or RPGCodexfag about Bethesda, and they'll praise them for making the "best RPGs" and supporting the mod community.
Grayson Gonzalez
Have you been hiding under a fucking rock. Everybody here shits on bethesda 24/7. But the truth is, they didn't make a bad game until fallout 4. But now that they broke the shitty ice with F4 everybody suddenly got the idea that everything they've ever made was shit, when that is just not true. It's not fair to compare Fallout 3 to Fallout 4 and it's sure as hell not fair to compare the elder Scrolls to Fallout 4. They just fucked up and got greedy this time around. A lot of developers do it. They'll probably learn from this massive failure and either do away completely with these new implementations such as the voiced protagonist and dumbed down leveling system or approve soon then. I look forward to the next elder scrolls coming soon and hope whole heartedly that they've learned from the mistakes they made on Fallout 4
Leo Morgan
>Why the fuck do people worship these hacks so much? Easily accessible games made for the lowest common denominator. No need for thinking, no need for strategy, no need for planning, just fire up the game and play.
Leo Diaz
A lot of normies seemed to dislike Fallout 4, but other than that they're untouchable.
Cameron Taylor
are they ever going to move on from their ancient engine they've been using since morrowind? the one that couldn't use more than 4 GB of RAM until 2015? the one that still can't have NPCs use ladders? the one that can't actually be true open world and have loading screens for small houses?
Joseph Carter
Despite all that, their games are a solid base for fun mods and fucking around.
Bentley Brooks
I see tons of negative feedback about F4 on YouTube Reddit and Facebook. Common normie sites. It's no secret that it was lackluster
Hunter Lewis
Improve apon* not approve soon
Lucas Green
>has problem with people outside of Sup Forums >asks Sup Forums why they hold opinions Nigga, hush.
Gavin Powell
You people are so fucking stupid.
Do you bitch and moan that Valve is still using an engine created in 1996? Because by your logic that is exactly what they are doing.
Noah Russell
I have no idea why some other company doesn't muscle in and make a better fantasy open world RPG.
Brayden Rogers
I think people just still hold out hope that the next elder scrolls and fallout games won't suck
they really need to make an engine for once though, the bugs are everywhere between moronic and legendary at this point. (looking at you random animal witnesses in skyrim, unpatched on consoles to this date.)
>terrible engine they didn't make the one they are using.
Nathan Lopez
that's not true though
by your logic, there is only 1 unreal engine
Ayden Ramirez
Because it's actually really difficult and time-consuming to do.
Caleb Bailey
I feel like a lot of people are glad they preserve it. Myself included
Jason Miller
at least half life had ladders
Liam Walker
You forgot this one
>Obsidian wasn't hired to m ake FO4
That's how I knew FO4 would instantly be trash, and boy was I right.
Aiden Morgan
is the vanilla inventory system still going to just be shitty fucking lists or are they actually put some effort into it?
Luke Wright
>by your logic, there is only 1 unreal engine
No, that's not my logic, that this logic.
Anyone who thinks the engine running Fallout 4 is exactly the same as the engine running Morrowind is simply a fucking moron.
Kayden Brooks
we know it's not the same exact engine, but it's not that far off either, as opposed to goldsrc vs source which may have the same framework but can legitimately be differentiated as different engines
Jose James
I don't think you, or anyone else that bitches about HURR DURR SAME ENGINE, have any clue at all as to what similarities or differences there are between any of these different engine iterations.
Ethan Phillips
personally i can't explain it in technical terms, but we can all tell, and i'm sure many people can give you a detailed explanation. ES3, ES4, FO3, FNV, ES5 and FO4 all feel like the same game but with different 'overhauls', except each new game keeps removing features and adding higher quality assets in higher numbers and more graphical features, making the engine chug like crazy. i've heard this is not an issue within gamebryo itself but with bethesda's specific versions of it which are so badly written
David Rivera
>except each new game keeps removing features
I can assure you they are not removing features with each new iteration of the engine, they are adding them. You are talking about game design decisions, not the engine.
Mason Rodriguez
I share the exact same feelings, their games are absolutely terrible and I think I'll be spoiling prey as soon as the ending gets released
Jonathan Cox
i didn't mean engine features. they keep adding those but none are optimized. just talking about the progression of each of their games from a standpoint of a consumer, how it's the same game every time but ironically with less things
so what was your argument again? you're ok with bethesda's shittty modded gamebryo engine, is that it? i'm not, none of us here are, and since FO4 neither is the mainstream
Easton Nguyen
bethesda needs to stop working on outdated engines, catch up, and do some real, actual level design. also, pretend like fallout 4 never happened.
Elijah Garcia
>how it's the same game every time but ironically with less things But that's just modern gaming in general. This is not a Bethesda thing, this is an everyone thing.
>you're ok with bethesda's shittty modded gamebryo engine, is that it? Basically, yes. The problem with Bethesda is not GAMEBRYO SUCKS!!!, it's that they suck at making games with it.
Do you people really think if Bethesda dropped Gamebryo and started using MT Framework or CryEngine or something all TES games would suddenly become fantastic? Would adding ladders to Fallout 4 push the game from 5/10 to 10/10?
Aiden Powell
They have no real competition in their genre. They deliver a somewhat unique game. If a competent developer made an open world game that didn't have shitty graphics, shitty animations, better writing, etc. etc. it would be really obvious how mediocre their games are.
Sebastian Moore
you're not seeing the underlying complaint. It's not directly "lol gamebryo", but rather exactly what you pointed out- their programmers are trash
Sebastian Thompson
Nah, that's not what people really care about, it's just something to complain about. Half the PC games Sup Forums absolutely love are riddled with bugs, e.g. STALKER, every Obsidian game ever made, etc. Bethesda's game aren't so broken they are unplayable, they are just so boring they are unplayable.
Carson Allen
remember when the old RPGs were influenced by D&D and tried to emulate the vast amount of choices and freedom you had in that game?
>I attack the shop manager for insulting my god! Ah, sorry I need him for a quest, so he gets back up unharmed >Wow, after doing a few tasks I'm the elder mage? Sure, why not? >Holy shit this mountain lion is doing more damage than the dragon! Oh yeah, you guys are pretty high level so I thought I needed to bump up the normal enemies >For next game I'm going to go a merc who has a heart of gold but loves money No, sorry I made a character for you, and heres a script as its my story and not yours
Charles Long
>remember when the old RPGs were influenced by D&D and tried to emulate the vast amount of choices and freedom you had in that game? This wasn't exactly as common as you are implying. The norm in PC RPGs has always been "Don't break my game, player", Ultima and the like were anomalies.
Matthew Robinson
>Do you bitch and moan that Valve is still using an engine created in 1996? Is Valve really "using an engine" when they're not actually making any games?
James Green
In all fairness in the newer games there is an increasing chance of NPCs getting killed by random encounters, since roaming enemies are much more common then in early games.
Hell, in Morrowind most NPCs didn't even get in fights.
I'm looking at you Caius Cosades just fucking standing there watching me get my ass handed to me by an assassin in your own house. Then you fucking decide to attack me because I swung my sword a little to close to you while frantically trying to defend myself.
William Garcia
They have no competition. They literally have an entire genre all to themselves. The only place to get a Bethesda-style game is Bethesda themselves.
Leo Turner
>Oh yeah, you guys are pretty high level so I thought I needed to bump up the normal enemies
Actually most wildlife in Skyrim isn't leveled. Things like wolfs, saber cats, trolls, giants and so forth are all at a set level. The only difference is that snowy versions of creatures are usually a higher level.
It's mostly stuff you find in dungeons like falmer, drauger and human enemies that are leveled. Dragons too of course.
Xavier James
Gamebyro open world games have a lot of modding potential.
Evan Anderson
Bumpan.
Evan Morris
Absolute kek with the file name
Gabriel White
The rich worlds they create. It's fun to explore and actually fun to spend the time to sit down and read an in game book. The plethora of the elder scrolls lore is interesting and captivating. Just watch shoddy casts lore series and you'll see what I mean. He doesn't go into serious depth but illustrates how inviting we find it.
Brody Stewart
>Expecting people that shit on Skyrim to actually know anything mechanically about the game
Skyrim is probably the best blend of encounters that best show your progression, provide reasonable challenge, and in rare occasions force you to lick your wounds and come back again in the future.
