This happened to my Sega Saturn ;_;
I lost my Herc's Adventures saves. That gaem was 10/10
I guess I'll just have to buy a new battery then
>Any of those batteries in your game consoles could leak at any time
All yo game boy games will be RUINED
Only Nintendo shit uses batteries so I don't have to worry.
What do you think keeps the clock running on your PS4/One/PC?
Also, Disc Rot.
A CMOS battery that is easily replaced
I took my psp out of it's case the other day and the battery flew right out of it because it had swelled up so much.
I can still play it if I plug it into the wall though.
I just realized you were speaking about stuff becoming useless,so, sorry, but still, those batteries leak too.
>not doing all your handheld gaming on the original GBA, which doesn't have a battery built in
>tfw your SP battery died and it doesn't work when it's plugged in without a battery
Fairly easy to replace and you can still get the correct size quite easily..
Same thing happened to both of my PSPs.
Battery leakage makes me super paranoid now.
>One day, even hydrogen atoms will begin to fall apart
Tempus fugit; memento mori.
Disc rot is pretty much a the boogie man, it scary the shit out of young collectors but really doesn't mean much.
Lorem ipsum Mr. Roboto?
>tfw none of my Saturn games actually need saves
just wish I had a working Saturn still
could buy another one, but I also haven't turned on a console in weeks, I'll play it like crazy for a month and then it'll collect dust and then I'll want my $60 back to spend on something else
WTF I love alkalines now.
>disc rot
Nice meme
I've had discs since 92 and not a single one has been affected. I have seen discs barely a year old owned by others who showed signs of the disc rot though so I think it's all about how it's taken care of.
i guess my dualshocks and xbox controllers run off of magic and not batteries.....
this is why old consoles and games suck lol
Better than FFVII in every way possible
This happened to my PSP battery.
luckly the 3ds battery is removable
get a modchip for 30 bucks
definitely worth your time
most underappreciated game console of all time
I'm worried about this for the switch. As more and more tablet/phone manufacturers move to the glue sealed paper-thin meme, the more we consumers get fucked. I know the switch has screws, but it looks harder to replace the battery than the gamepad or a 3ds
>switch battery is not removable
is nintendo trying to be retarded?
>AC adapter is taking up everything on wall
power bricks are dumb and should be in the middle like ps2 slim
This is why cartridges are terrible for games.
>Disc Rot
I have CDs from the late 90s which work perfectly fine.
well thank god for emulation
My original Vita has been in mint condition since the release of it
>Posts a picture of a Samsung battery
This is only seen throughout most Samsung products and nobody else
>tfw someone else played hercs adventures
Truly in need of a remake
It will never happen even if I want it to.
>tfw fighting the Minotaur for the first time
Whatever happened to these? They were for sale online for years up until around 2010. They were basically able to backup your cartridge to the PC using the serial port. I really wanted one but couldn't afford it because there were almost no American vendors around that sold it.
I've seen someone make one with a raspberry pi but I haven't heard much about it since.
neat
bump
DOMO ARIGATO
>Also, Disc Rot.
Are blu-rays also suspectible to this?
Either way, disc rot only really affects shitty quality CDs/DVDs. Professional ones have that dye added to them to make them last.
Imagine a Nintendo switch that runs on AAs.
>tfw Vita battery isn't easily accessed.
The chinese caps in a normal console will go poof after a while too. At that point you better hope that you have amazing power in your home or else things you'd rather not happen will start happening.
Cheap electronics don't last.
>any handheld console with a rechargeable battery also has a charger that can power the console itself
I still have my old GBA and it works great. My 3DS wont last this long? ;_;
COUPLEOFHUNDREDOFTHEM
GBA carts can do this with a DS flashcart, at least
>Cheap electronics don't last.
We chose this by trying to get things as cheap as possible.
Nintendium is not a thing anymore. Quality "Made in Japan" devices are no more. Sad!
Well, to be fair, I haven't heard any widespread failures of Nintendo devices even as of recently. Nintendo make profit on their stuff, so I suppose they might have less pressure to cut corners.
What causes the battery like that go swell up like that?
>All capacitors used in electronics will eventually swell and leak their electrolytic fluid onto the boards they are attached to, destroying them forever.
who cares? nothing lasts forever. name me one physical thing in your house RIGHT NOW that will last forever.
I think Nintendium refers to how tough Nintendo devices are. Like, if you were to drop a GameBoy or a GameCube, chances are the machine would still work like champ.
Try dropping a Wii, Wii U or a 3DS though.. can't guarantee it'll survive.
Lithium ion doesn't leak.
it explodes
They expand.
How long do you think my Gamecube has?
Hell, how long does my PC have? It's from 2012.
Just look at your motherboard
If those cylinder things get really big then its close to exploding
Well that depends on how much they weight and what you consider survival. I'd be surprised if any of those devices stopped working after dropping. I've dropped my phone and ipod many times and nothing happens.
On the other hand, my PSP broke the first time I dropped it. The screen got completely destroyed inside. I think that's an outlier though, it's the last PSP design which was really cheap with every corner that could be cut obviously cut.
Stuff like this is why I don't collect old games, nor do I see them still usable when I'm 60 or 70.
Unlike board games
>How long do you think my Gamecube has?
>Hell, how long does my PC have? It's from 2012.
Those devices don't use lithium batteries you retard. My 2006 desktop is still operational.
For a desktop you only need to replace the button cell battery used to keep the clock time when its turned off otherwise any modern operating system can just sync the clock to the right time.
Devices that are affected are the ones that use unique rechargeable batteries.
I am technologically retarded user. I know how to fix them and how to replace stuff, but I have no clue how it actually works.
>doesn't know about leaking capacitors
neat
>doesn't know how to replace capacitors
neato!
That shit already happened to my og 3DS, I have to buy a new battery for it cuz I can't use it
You can buy capacitors for pennies.
At least yours still work, mine won't even turn on
>implying Sup Forums can solder
inb4 housefire
Age, it will happen to Fucking everyone
>One day this happens to every and anything
so what?
Just rest it on a metal surface. Game is hard m8
I have this Sony Ericsson phone boxed, the battery charged and removed. Used it 2009 till 2011, decommissioned and put back in the box in 2012.
How long does the battery have just sitting there?
until they burst
then FIRE COMES OUT
one day you'll wake up dead
jesus christ eject eject EJECT
>you can't replace batteries
You are a special kind of stupid.
I can still use the Rollercoaster Tycoon disc my dad bought when it released and it works fine, fuck off with your disc rot meme.
>Disc Rot
Isn't real. My Sega CD games still work just fine, and a few of those don't even have cases.
>change HDD every 5 years
>always 2 backup HDDs that are mirror copies of each other but never the same model
i feel pretty safe but do you think i should put one of the backups in a fireproof box and disconnect it from power?
The silver crown on my tooth.
I just soldered two old phone batteries together with a USB in, for charging, and a USB out so that i can charge my mobile stuff on the go.
>All electronics ever will stop working in 3 or 4 decades simply because of moisture in the air
I hope you weren't hoping to replay anything from your childhood when you're 60.
Jesus christ user that's a fire waiting to happen
>all current humans will cease working in about 10 decades
oh shit
>solid state capacitors
>used in most electronics these days
>leak
I know right, basically ISIS uses them for IEDs
Man, fires with 5v~12v stuff are the worse.
My cousin's new carpet got messed up because he left his phone charging or something.
I'm the only one that sees a comfy pillow?
My phone's battery looked like this, didn't even realize until once month I took it apart to pull out an SD card. I still don't know what the fuck caused it, and it's not like I never pop the back case off either.
confusing shit.
you are not using any load balancing or overcharge prevention electronics, no low voltage cut off, are you trying to get yourself killed ?

dodged a bullet
> Note 2
> green led blinking furiously
> try to turn screen on... nothing
> led goes away
> ... try to power it back on... nothing
> remove battery, try everything... nothing
Sweet dreams.
There is. I have the phone's MOBO in there. It all goes through the one built into that.
It's okay
Do people really think disc rot is something that is going to be noticable after ~20-30 years?
I've always felt that disc rot is going to be a problem for the next generation, or even the one after that, when they find their grandparents discs in the attic, or people who save photos of their kids and want to look at them in the retirement home after 50 years or something.
look how small THIS battery is, and now imagine how big the one you carry in your back pocket or within inches of your genitals is
youtu.be
me
Yeah well, it was a good thing that you saw the battery now and then. Until manufacturers decided it's time to stop this and now they are all glued in.
you sir are more clever than you look like.
i rest my case
My Diablo 1 disk still works fine
Ghetto user, a good chink portable charger is like 10-30$ (AUKey, for example). Stop being so ghetto.
If the disc was properly made, it will last for another 20-30 years, or if kept properly, maybe 100 years.
The problem here is that (at least in my country):
- Discs were expensive. Proper ones.
- Companies started selling cheap ones, including counterfeit ones.
- Manufacturers started lowering price and lowering quality.
So yeah, no matter if you picked a brand disc for like 20% more, or a cheap one, they were all shit.
