Great games. Origin and Oath in Felghana are top tier, so be sure to try that as well.

YS 1 & 2 are the only good ones with best girl.

Origins is my favorite one.
The newer ones aren't as good as Origins or Oath in Felghana.

Been a die hard fan for almost two decades now. My personal favorite franchise.

My fellow white man of patrician taste!

currently played/ beat

oath, origin, 1 and 2

bought ark on steam, still good ones? ive been vastly enjoying this series

I know theres the vita game and the coming ps4/steam one coming, any other essential ys games I should play?

I just started playing the first Ys recently.
I think I'll need to buy a new gamepad to be able to fully enjoy it though, the analogue stick used for movement doesn't always work, and the first boss fight is tedious using a keyboard.

Currently playing Ark.

I like it better than Origin, rpgs should villages and exploration imo.

thanks for the pic

Dana is better than both.

Best Ys game right there, play Oath in Felghana after it

Those aren't even games

Sorry, I should've have specified I meant VII and memories of Celceta.
I'll play Dana when it's localised.

>The games that defined the series aren't even games.
I want Felghana babies to leave.

Isn't Ys Origins coming out for PS4/Vita this month

>no grinding
Now that's a bold-faced lie.

>no grinding
The best way to spot newfags.

Pretty much the only JRPG I like.

I only played the first one. I liked it but I'm skeptical of playing the second one if it plays identically.

I got the PSP version of 1 and 2 on my Vita, I fucking hate the combat

You get magic in the second game so you won't be constantly dry humping things.

I'm drawing a blank. Wanderers had grinding issues but other than that I don't remember anything else.

See if you like Xanadu Next. It's by the same devs but slightly different since, I believe, it was originally an Ngage game.

The only one where you legit can't grind is Ys I as you hit level cap half way through the game and money becomes pointless once you enter Darm Tower. Everything else however you can grind to win.

>Origins
>s
Kill yourselves

hi

Oh. I always assumed it meant that grinding wasn't necessary, which is true, since you'll always be up to par with a boss so long as you're properly equipped and learn the patterns properly. With Wanderers being the only real exception, IIRC.
I guess you can grind to win in the 6 engine games, maybe? I wouldn't know, I never tried.

As I said. Everything that isn't Ys I you can grind to win. Just needs patience like any game where you decide to go grind.

Love Ys
My favorite ones are 1&2, and VIII.
Can't wait to see what they do with the next installment considering how good VIII was.

Well okay then. That's not how I read that point, though. That's what I'm saying.

I'm assuming we'll finally get a remake of V, given how much Kondo wants to do it.

I couldn't disagree more. There's plenty of times where I'd reach a boss and be forced to grind out a couple levels because I was doing a whopping 1 damage. Every boss has a target level gate and a single level can make a huge difference.

I think they're pretty boring, bosses aside. Assuming they're all like Oath in Felghana, anyway.

I played 1 and 2 on the DS and they were shit.

> bump rush into the enemies to kill
> define the series

Origin is better than 1 in every way. It has the same bosses too.

>DS
There's your problem. Play them on PC or PSP

Good games, fucking great soundtrack.

>be me 10 years ago
>wish Ys was recognized and popular in the west
>fast forward to this thread
>regret ever having that wish
You fucking plebshits don't even deserve this god given series. I hate all of you.

I highly doubt that would change the fact that all you do is run around and bump into shit to to kill it. I found no enjoyment in that whatsoever

I hope so considering that V really sticks out as a sore thumb.
And now that they've gotten a new mainline out of the way the probably afford to go back and remake it.

Which Ys is the most impressive to watch when played at a high level? I play games to feel skilled, and to show it off.

Ys Strategy

>Plot hole ridden mess you need to beat twice (3 times unpatched) in order to see the true ending.
>better than anything

Face it, Origin was just an afterthought to keep people satisfied while they worked on Seven.

Felghana purists and Originfags are the cancer of the Ys fanbase. Go and stay go.

....wat

Seven was so bad. Jesus

Let me perfectly honest with you, even though you won't like it. Seven has the most technical tricks to pull off, like critical chaining. But it's only impressive to people who know what to look for. Felghana is probably the most visually impressive to all, including plebs, even though it's not as deep technically as Seven.

Are you me?

Feena and Reah are in Origins too

Seven is a really good game.
t. Ys fan for 15 years

Love the series. Enjoyed every single game I played. Fan of both the Ark engine and Party style. Would have been better if party was as challenging as the Ark engine games, but they're still enjoyable.

There's no S, you illiterate cocksucker.

reporting. Seven was fucking great, get the fuck out of my franchise and never come back.

1 & 2 are walking simulators

The worst part about Ys' rise to western prominence is the Steambabbies who hate everything that isn't Felghana and Origin (literally muh first Ys syndrome).

Felghana is a legitimately great game, but not the end all be all of Ys. Origin is a highly flawed VI engine game that's worse than VI in story/scope and worse than Felghana in gameplay. Even worse, these know nothings feel the need to constantly shit all over the Seven engine games because they aren't on PC.

Seven is a good game though.

coolio thx m8

>7
Can't seem to find a DL of the chinese PC release of it.. Shame.

Well VIII is coming to PC. It's legitimately a great game.

>Shame.
You can just download the PSP version and play it using emulator.
It's the same anyway.

They are on PC though.

That port is shit. Just emulate it on PSP.

But they weren't for quite a while. There were years of bitching about it.

Fucking this.

Ys 1 (Chronicles version) is the best game in the entire franchise, 2 is just Mazes: The Game but it's okay. Origin, Napishtim, and Felghana are all really good. There's are OVA anime for the first two games which are pretty decent actually.

Ys is less niche nowadays, but you are having a laugh if you think this series is in any way popular.

Why?

>Try playing the first two games
>literally bumper car combat

They even joking about it in the short anime.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCK OFF WITH THIS ANIME SHIIIIITTT

Nothing in my post said that it was popular today. Read carefully, dumdum.

>playing angle fighter
Learn how to walk into them at the proper angle, buddy.

Its surprisingly fun once you get a feel for it and 2 gives you fireballs to help too.

The hidden dialogues are fucking great.

What have you got to complain about then? You don't want it to be popular, and it isn't.

you're basically a fucking tank that fucks shit up.

Meanwhile all the fancy knights and flashy mages from Origin are jobbers.

>Ys is less niche
>that means it's more popular
>even this increase in popularity has made a toxic fanbase of steambabbies
>regret
Are you seriously this stupid? Wow!

What's so good about about Felghana? It's probably the worst I've played.
>Bland characters
>Bland story
>Music was OK, but worst in the series
>Didn't get the sense of adventure as the other games.

Only thing good was the final dungeon and boss.

Only game I haven't played is Origin.

>Adol
>hot headed mute with strong sense of justice
>moves fast
>fucks shit up in melee
>kills massive hoardes of monsters
>kills shit many times his own size
>the most armor he wears is mainly a breastplate

>Doomguy
>hot headed mute with strong sense of justice
>moves fast
>fucks shit up in melee
>kills massive hoardes of monsters
>kills shit many times his own size
>the most armor he wears is mainly a breastplate

Literally muh first Ys game that isn't bump simulator.

Adol can survive a fall from any height and can't swim.

What about Doomguy?

Adol is married to adventure.

i bought origin like 3 years ago and finally started playing it

i regret not playing it earlier, it's pretty fucking good

Ys I has poor gameplay and is carried hard by the excellent OST
Ys II is better in every way

Doomguy doesn't take any falling damage and the Doom engine doesn't support water

Original Ys 3 wasn't a bumper simulator. Hell that game punished being touched big time as you could ide in seconds if you got too close.

The bosses are thrilling. The fight with Chester is iconic, final boss is spectacular.

Music is solid too, I love the voiced version of Believe in my heart :

youtube.com/watch?v=s8Dg7IfNL4w

Bland characters and story like every Ys game, music was the second best in the series, best gameplay and bosses in the series.

That's universally agreed upon, user. No need to spoiler it. I is my personal favorite though.

>the most armor he wears is mainly a breastplate
Not anymore

the big problem with ys ii is how they fucking put you in a maze in the first minutes

really poor pacing to be honest

I still have hope considering Ys Seven Adol wears plated armor and is the most recent in the timeline.

and Doomguy is married to fucking up hellspawn.

I refuse to believe that's Adol. That's not the same fearless hot headed son of a bitch I grew up with.

>tOiF
>windows better than PSP port
nigga what?

Adol went through a lot of facial surgery...

60 FPS and isn't casualized. Soundtrack and voices can be modded in.

Now let's meet american Adol.

I hear there is DLC that lets you use his old armor.
I don't like it either user. why they decided to ditch his iconic armor is beyond me.

That was a rough first dungeon, yeah, especially since just beating the boss wasn't enough. Every area's a maze-like place where you need to do something to proceed, but the mines are the trickiest to navigate.

*Bumper car simulators

You can play as classic Adol in 8.
