It's on sale, is it good?
It's on sale, is it good?
It is if you like aerial style camera with a diablo style combat system. I personally couldn't get into it, but I don't like games like Diablo, just something about the camera and artstyle bothers me.
Also if you're really big into dungeons and dragons, or straight RPG stuff then you'll like it.
>diablo style combat
It's turn-based
>a diablo style combat system
wut?
It's turn-based user.
>diablo style combat
>dnd OR straight rpg stuff
user what is wrong with you?
>diablo style combat
>diablo style combat
v confirmed for never playing games it trashes
Ah, well I didn't like the combat, should have just said that instead. Overall I just didn't like anything about it, the camera, artstyle, and combat were all trash. It's been a while since I played it, I just forgot it was turn based, still doesn't change the fact that combat is shit.
I know I got the combat wrong, but when I played it I remember it being like D&D. Am I that far off the mark? It seemed like a vanilla RPG to me, you can pick a class and what not.
For $20?
Easily
I got over 100 hours on it. The combat can become very much like a puzzle if you want it to, or you can go brute force.
Only recommendation I would make is to pick the animal whispering skill to get through the very long whodunit quest quicker
Best turn based/strategy RPG i've played in a long time, no memes, you wont regret it
as a bonus, it has multiplayer, so if you have a friend, it's that much better
also, magic is fucking kangz in that game so get at least 1 or 2 mages
Rogue is the best single target damager, that backstab, my god.
It's probably one of the greatest CRPG's on the market.
Buy it, pirate it... doesn't matter. Just enjoy the game and don't listen to the idiots on Sup Forums that were too stupid to even get past the first town because no questmarkers.
Is it better than pillars of eternity?
Divine Divinity is better
both are great though
It's fucking fantastic, even more so if you coop with a friend. Honestly has the combat system most reminiscent of DND than any other game I've played
dont listen to this guy he doesnt know what he's talking about
combat is not real time with pause
I never could stand that gameplay mechanic
made about as much sense as ATB on final fantasy, I really don't like ATB
I got the combat wrong, but I remember everything else was trash, including the combat.
Nothing in the game was fun to me
for sure
but i guess it depends if you prefer turn-based or not
Have you tried Skyrim? It probably fits your taste better.
I was disappointed that it turned in dungeon-crawler basically midway point in the game.
Still, if it was just linear combat corridor for 30 or so hours needed to beat the story it still would be a pretty good game, I have high hopes for D:OS 2
yeah, but you can roll an entire party of Glass Cannon mages and steamroll the entire game untouched
>I didn't remember the combat but it was trash
Yah trust this guys opinion, it's isometric so it's diablo.
Yes I did try Skyrim, put over 100 hours into and loved every second of it.
You're comparing apples to oranges though, and that's not really an argument. You should just accept that this game doesn't appeal to everyone, and I just happen to be one of them.
>Can't remember much about it
>Only played it for a couple of hours
Yeah it was trash, because obviously it had nothing memorable for me to remember it by.
It's literally just traditional turn based SRPG combat.
You have shitty taste. It's easily one of the best games from last gen, hands down.
>Yes I did try Skyrim, put over 100 hours into and loved every second of it.
Dude just stop, you embarassing yourself.
Solid RPG but the world, characters and lore feel generic. I'm so sick of DnD fantasy it basically turns me off any RPG I play that features too much of it.
I think it appealed to hipster faggots like you, next I bet you'll say games like Skyrim are garbage and everything needs to be turn based and isometric.
I don't give a damn, I liked Skyrim and if that bothers you then too bad.
Confirmation that there are idiots on Sup Forums who try to critique games they've never played.
Pretty pathetic really.
>Diablo style combat system
Stopped reading there. It's turn based you goon.
>I died to the tutorial battle
>skyrim is amazing wtf
Yeah trust this guys opinion lmao
I didn't die to the tutorial battle, I got through the first village and said fuck it because it was boring and I wasn't having fun.
Just didn't care for it.
>Didn't even read the rest of the thread
You're like the 10th person to tell me I got the combat wrong, still doesn't change the fact that I thought the game was trash. It's been a while since I played it, but I just remember the combat being garbage. And I didn't like Diablo either so they're both trash in terms of combat, in reality I wasn't that far off because both combat systems are shit.
Bought it with no expectations and it turned into one of my favorite games. Easily one of the best rpgs recently released
Pros:
>Nice combat system, fun use of enviromental effects
>Quests have you explore and think for yourself. Most have multiple ways to solve them and the game doesn't hold your hand and show you how
>Lore is pretty much your standard fantasy with a twist here and there, but the writing alternates between funny and pretty good
>Good soundtrack
Cons:
>Inventory system gets crowded and awkward to manage
>Cyseal market voice acting
>Cyseal market voice acting
NOT IN THE MOOD FOR CHEESE?
>still doesn't change the fact that I thought the game was trash
and nobody cares, because you're a dead set idiot.
If you want people to listen to you, don't expose your stupidity next time.
...
TOE OF SNAKE
I don't care if people listen to me, I'm entitled to my opinion and my opinion of this is that it was boring garbage.
Just like you can praise it for being a 10/10 masterpiece, like I said it won't appeal to everyone and not everyone is into games like this. Just like I can say I enjoyed a game that you probably hated it, different strokes for different folks and all that jazz.
The combat is really fun if turn based is your thing. If you have a friend to play with it's even more enjoyable because of the synergies between classes. None of that is limited to needing a friend, but it gives the feel of playing a tapletop game with a buddy. Sometimes the difficulty scaling on fights can be kind of wonky, but in general it isn't so bad.
Some voice lines will get stuck in your head to the point you repeat them to NPCs in town before they start.
The graphics are good and the animations aren't bad. Nothing to complain about but also nothing to really write home about. I personally think PoE looks better, but neither is hard on the eyes.
The writing is good, even if the story loses a little bit of it's drive. It's like when your GM had one really cool story arch that got turned into a multi-arch campaign. Everything in the world is still nice but definitely didn't get the same level of care.
Get the game and be hyped for the second one I guess.
Quiet day at the market it seems.
>still trying to damage control this hard
>first village
???? First place you go is a town about 20 minutes in.
So you played the game for 20 minutes at like level 2
Yeah trust this guys opinion lmao
>I don't give a damn, I liked Skyrim and if that bothers you then too bad.
yeah you do
that's why you keep replying
just leave this thread because no one will take your opinion seriously
That damage control.
>I don't care if people listen to me
Happy for you then. You're still a complete moron who completely failed to understand the mechanics of a game, and your stupidity if further reinforced by your attempts to dig yourself deeper and deeper.
is this game like fantasy xcom?
Anyone up for a 4-player game?
not even close
it's more like a prototype
the real game is going to be divinity OS 2, has much more environmental interactivity
To be honest I honestly think it's better as a single player experience. That way you can do everything at your own pace and don't have to worry about communicating with your friend on what they should/need to do.
This x100.
The game is at its best when you're in control and given the freedom to plan your strategies. Playing co-op just over-complicates things when you play differently to the other player.
I remember playing with someone from Sup Forums last year and he kept sperging whenever I did something he didn't want. I dumped his ass, restarted in single player and the experience improved drastically.
...
Yes it's arguably the best of the big cRPGs from the "new wave" of the genre. The story/writing isn't really its strong point but the combat is really good so the game never really becomes boring or too repetitive with its encounters like say PoE imho.
You just need to be ok with Larian's constant humor, nothing feels serious and a lot of characters are weird/stupid. It's a fun game, not a serious one.
Also the best part of the game is the first town, you might feel you're losing interest when you leave it but just keep playing, it stays good, there's just a weird "cut" at that moment I'd say.
So on top of suggesting Divinity's turn-based combat is like Diablo, you've now misunderstood someone saying "like a prototype" as the literal game called Prototype.
You are so unbelievably stupid it hurts.
My experience is that I played with a friend I've known for years who was just starting the game whereas I had already completed it.
Frankly, it wasn't a good experience for me. We had some laughs like "HERE LIES ISIS" or "Madora will make Cyseal great again" but actually playing the game felt like a needless hassle, especially since I knew much more about the game than he did.
I hope the sequel makes multiplayer more enjoyable and less of a hassle, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I still plan on playing the multiplayer of the game with a few friends despite this, though.
I think he was just so frustrated that he read that user's comment very quickly and thought he said "Like Prototype" instead of reading "Like A prototype."
You tend to make a lot of mistakes when you're upset, trust me I would know, but I like to think it happens to the best of us.
fucking fuck yeah it is
Story is shit, generic fantasy with too much bloat text
Classes are mediocre, fighters/rangers have little to no skills while almost the whole game revolves around magic
But combat is pretty fantastic if you play a magic class, huge amount of pre battle things you can do to tip fights in your favor, as well as interacting with spells and objects in battles
Overall its okay but best with friends
I hope you at least made sure he had a good time.
Yes.
you are such a beautiful person
>but I like to think it happens to the best of us
i don't get mad about video games
but i do get mad about Sup Forums some times
fuck you
Yeah. Combat is excellent and secondary gameplay mechanics (like stealth and crafting) are very well done too. Multiplayer coop is fun and the game is well optimized and bug-free.
A few flaws: story and characters are really bad, humor is silly and feels a little forced, and pacing in the first quarter of the game could be better
Overall a great game, definitely worth it to buy on sale.
>pic related
Sure, it's one of the best turn-based RPGs out there and there's a sequel in development (which is also pretty gud, although still in early access).
>rip out the entire story and setting
>replace with literally anything else
Would be so much better.
I fucking hate this modern trend of every RPG trying to turn every rock and pebble into something unique. The whole story is hamfisted, slamming down your throat exposition about every minor pointless detail no one ever remembers or cares about.
No fucking wonder people like Souls lore so much, it doesnt take itself so seriously and players can interpret whats happening instead of every interaction being
>THIS DUNGEON WAS MADE BY (NAME1) BY THE (NAME2) IN THE TIME OF (NAME3)
>Ask about Name1
>Ask about Name2
>Ask about Name3
>have to go through 10 different dialogue options to just finish the fucking quest to hand in 5 rats asses
I didn't sperg on him or anything. I just feel that playing multiplayer lessens your freedom significantly. For example, you have to share gold/equipment with a friend instead of being in complete control of it. There's also the fact that you need to communicate every minute detail to them when it comes to questing, battle plans, etc. Which makes playing the game feel like more of a hassle than it needs to be.
It didn't help that when I played with him I went from the "hard'' to "normal" difficulty, which actually significantly changes the game. Still, my friend decided to make his own single player game where he focused on being a dick ass thief which he enjoyed, so I guess he did end up enjoying it overall.
I don't think the story is particularly strong, but I liked how open ended a lot of quests felt and how many ways you could complete them. Hell, it was neat actually being able to obtain some quests due to having a specific skill.
kek
How does Sup Forums feel about Unsinkable Sam?
>IT WAS MERELY AN ACT
D:OS was fairly low on the blab-o-meter compared to text vomit like PoE tbphwuf
He sure knows how to get pussy.
I was ultimately really ambivalent about the plot. I didn't find it insultingly moronic but I wasn't particularly enamored by it either. However, I did like how you could interact with the NPC's in the game and the way they pulled off the player characters morality was really well done.
I actually thought rangers had a lot of options. While they don't really have too many skills persay they had a variety of arrows which were really powerful even if their use was limited. Warriors were the ones who got the butt end of the stick, but that's probably fair considering that you still want to have them due to their ability to take and do damage in the thick of battle which mages can't really do.
That said, after some time classes don't really matter that much so much as it is your stat distribution and weapon type. I had plenty of warriors using mage spells by the end of the game.
Great systems, terrible writing. Get POE instead if you like RPG's with good storytelling.
>Get POE instead if you like RPG's with good storytelling.
I can only imagine how deep you've been sucking Josh Sawyer's cock.
>Get POE instead if you like RPG's with good storytelling
I never finished it, but might start over with the Enchanced edition.
Most fun combos? I was thinking about Warrior/Rogue.
Also is that retarded dialogue dialogue system with permanent bonuses still in place?
I triggers my min-maxing autism, makes me waste time to go through all the options and ultimately burns me out.
I like the system but I hate how non-transparent it is. They should make it so that you know what points you get for selecting a specific option.
Would you?
>diablo style combat
wut
>Disgusting Sourcerer
Would totally fuck her dead body tho.
It's trash. Shit everything apart from early game combat. I've played the EE on Tactician and quit after beating the death knights in the mines, because the game became unbearably boring and my party was overpowered and was steamrolling through every encounter with zero effort.
How much of the game is the whodunit style talking quests and how much is combat?
I tried playing the game coop which I found quite fun but my friend started getting incredibly bored and just wanted to start hitting things which made it's very frustrating.
Started playing alone and my AI partner won the argument to kill the guards at the beginning and when I said that was wrong they agreed which just frustrated me.
I just don't know how to play it.
Has typical stupid shit like no reason to pick locks when you can bash most stuff open and having dedicated crafting/utility characters you leave in town because combat and non-combat skills share points.
Sequel fixes a lot of this nonsense.
