Sorry. Couldn't resist. Tombi is also my favourite childhood game. I remembered it like a week ago and fell asleep watching a TAS assisted speedrun of the game which was 10/10 for nostalgia feels. Might replay it again soon.

it's an amazing ass game, i want to drop kick my younger self in the teeth for mistreating my tomba 2 disc, it's scratched to shit, it still works but it's scratched, now tomba 2 and tomba 1 are worth quite a bit of money.

Tomba is better than the shit threads Sup Forums makes about it. The first game was just amazingly fun to explore and solve all the little quests in, but Sup Forums only knows or cares about it because they saw an e-celeb play it. It's fucking terrible how little of their own opinion this board has.

i play a modern game and unless its a western game it just don't feel right.

also the kick of getting the squirrel suit for the first time combined with the grapple always made me feel like i could go anywhere

was also one of the few games that did backtracking properly, with some of the later quests like the mermaid one having you travel all over the game world popping them water plants

That said, I prefer Tombi 1 over 2. It just played better, and the 2D artstyle worked much better than the fugly 3D.

Fuck me. It's been a long time since anyone's mentioned this fucking series. It's sad as hell, but the first Tomba game (Tombi, because lol eurocuck) was what actually got me interested in videogames.

My family was really poor as a kid. My dad did freelance work in an area where there wasn't any demand, and my mum was a temporary-basis substitute teacher, so money was pretty tight. Christmases and birthdays were mostly times when we'd get the poundland versions of popular shit, or just ordinary household stuff wrapped to look like a gift (I still get deoderant and packs of pencils to this day, even though the money's improved. It's kind of funny now). But one year, my dad got in a big influx of work, so he bought us all a PS1. I went nuts.

The only thing was, we couldn't actually afford any games. At the time they were too expensive, and I didn't get any pocket money, so I was kind of stuck. But every week my dad would take us down to the shops, and buy us all a magazine we could read. I chose the cheapest playstation magazine I could find every week, and would just spend all my time reading about the games I couldn't play.

So, sometimes these things came with demo disks. And one week, the pickings were pretty good. I think it had a demo level of soul reaver (which, as a little pussyboi, scared the shit out of me), a couple of those weird concept racing games you got on the older systems, and this one weird game called Tomba.

I fucking loved it. The way it looked, way it sounded, hell even the weird 3D transitions made me feel so happy. I wanted to play more so badly, but all I had was the demo.

So I sat in our unheated house pretty much every night, replaying that same maybe half-hour section over and over again. I knew every fucking detail of that thing, but I never stopped. Eventually I grew up, and got money for games. But I've never forgotten how magic that scratched up demo disk was when it was all I had.

I know that feel bro. Demo Discs were the fucking best when you were a kid. Especially when you could trade them with all your mates.

And then you'd get those massive compilations CD's for PC with like 30 games on them and that'd last you forever. Still remember playing the shit out of One Must Fall like that.
