RPGs that deserve more love

Quiet day on the market, it seems...

I am nearing the end of my first playtrough of D:OS and i wanted to make a thread for 2 purposes

1) Did you like the game ? I LOVED the game, the combat is an unquestionable 10/10 and the story is really good actually, but yes the first 10 levels are very cliché storywise. Also the voice acting and the characters were just amazing

2) How does it compare to D:OS 2 ?

anybody who played both can tell me how they compare ? use [spoilers] if you must

I've only played the first but I hated it, the combat is well done, but that wasn't enough to save the rest of the game from being totally creatively senile. I couldn't tell you exactly what was going on after 6 hours of play, but I can tell you I haven't enjoyed any spoken dialogue up until that point.

Maybe it's better played with other people.

I really can't speak about the quality of the games as RPG because I'm new to the genre and stills I found them a bit basic, but I really loved Shadowrun Dragonfall and Hong Kong.

Also considering giving D:OS a shot, but I really prefer modern setting over fantasy, wich doesn't offer me a lot of variety.

The gameplay in D:OS is vastly superior to Shadowrun
2 has even better combat than the first one, enemy A.I. as well

2 isn't finished yet but so far an overall improvement to 1.

yay.. but i saw a lot fewer AP in combat.. what is that about ?

>RPG
>DOS
LMAO. How is that complete lack of character build influence on the availability of alternative quest solutions treating you, son?

Charisma is useless. This is pure h&s.

1) i fucking loved it
i finished the game in 4 days with 60 hours of playtime
i've tried playing the enhanced edition, but for some reason i can't get into it

2) just like with the 1st one, i will be waiting for them to finish the game before i play it

I think it's the same ratio of available points/cost, they just reduced it

charisma is ok. you get bigger bonuses in rock/paper/scissors with higher charisma, requiring fewer successes

also, like 80 % of quests have multiple ways how you can solve them, and also multiple outcomes

>not savescuming this bullshit

Charisma is useless, because you can get 5 points in it from item bonuses without investing a single point before even leaving Cyseal, ultimately making all of the alternative, charisma based quest solutions available without having to sacrifice any of your character skill points.

It's useless and there are no meaningful character building choices that have an influence on anything apart from combat. The game has exactly zero role playing depth.

The whole series really.

>80 % of quests have multiple ways how you can solve them, and also multiple outcomes
Yes, and all of those outcomes are either completely independent of your character build OR depend on charisma checks and charisma checks are an instant pass for the player due to charisma boosts from items.

The role playing component is non existent.

I'm sorry, but your whole post reeks of a young fanboy squirming over his beloved game. I mean, voice acting and characters -amazing-...? If your opinion is so blatantly wrong in the first place, I think you are a lost case.

Glad you found a game you personally enjoy, though.

So like almost every RPG for the past few years?

None hold any real merit in character building. Its always red, blue, green.

>So like almost every RPG for the past few years?
Stop talking out of your ass. Age of Decadence, Wasteland 2, Shadowrun games, Pillars of Eternity and some other RPGs released in the past several years have actual role playing, because these games have include meaningful character building choices where your selection of stats and skills unlocks or locks alternatvie quest solutions and /or allows you to progress in alternative ways. These are RPGs, D:OS is h&s.

How lewd is this game if they are already holding hands in the cover?

>shadowrun games
>character build matters
Right yes, pick build A,B or C. Do something we didn't expect? GG you're useless. :')

>choices besides stats change the outcome of quests
>therefore its not an rpg
thinkingfaceemoji.png

>Age of CYOA games
>more fargo trash
>linear sjw trash
>pillars of banality where none of your decisions matter apart from ending slides
really fired me neurons

>GG you're useless.
Thanks for confirming that you've never actually played any of the games I've mentioned, because now I won't have to waste my time on you. There's always a way to progress in Shadowrun games, it's just that you will not get the most "optimal one" every single time, depending on the way you've built your character, which is good. This is role playing, something an actual RPG always has.

Choices independent of character building decisions have nothing to do with role playing. They're just that - choices. If one follows your logic, then Visual Novels are the best RPGs ever made, since they have shitloads of actual C&C, but they're not.

It's OK, I didn't expect anything more than verbal diarrhea from Lariandrones anyway.

>the combat is an unquestionable 10/10
It really really isn't.
Due to the cooldown nature of it, every single fight boil down to do the same rotation.
The environmental interaction is very neat, but I've seen pretty much everything it has to offer before reaching the second city.
The game as a whole was fine, but the opinion on combat is just one of those safe memes that get repeated by people in search of validation.

Indeed, VNs are the most successful RPGs of all times.

Thank you for agreeing.

>Indeed, VNs are the most successful RPGs of all times.
Woah... so this... is the power... of Lariandrones.

I played this game coop with a friend and we dropped it after 8 hours. The game really isn't all that good. Trash writing and combat that got stale after a while.

I don't think either of you are completely wrong. Visual novels do have roleplaying elements although not D&D type of traditional RPG ones based on character stats. Both character stats and choices independent of character stats contribute to the roleplaying factor, although visual novels are not - due to conventions - referred as RPGs.

Major inventory problems.
Crafting system all over the place.
Combat gives to much emphasis to the. elemental combinations.
Dry and cringy humor-every second sentence is an attempt at some punchline.

And lots more problems.

But the game itself is a solid gaming experience.

a 7.5/10 for me.

Would you say this is for the first, or EE?

Since a lot of the crafting system issues are completely removed.

Played only the EE version.

Its just so clumsy, on top of a really bad inventory system.
