Zoodiac's seem pretty xyz heavy, it'd be a shame if their single xyz summon became someone else's link material....

They can still make their drancia/emeral field under new rules. Very little changes until a banlist hits.

GX isn't bad 2bh. arc-v was promising at the beginning but I didn't keep up with it

5Ds had a rough start because of the whole duel on bikes thing but it's pretty good.

5D's is very good, but loses some of it's quality past ep 64.
Zexal starts bad but gets really good.
Arc-V starts good, but gets fucking shit after ep 50.

In my opinion, every series is worth a watch except Arc-V.

This. Links don't do anything to hurt the meta in the slightest. They just completely fuck every single petdeck to exist and completely ruin the entire pendulum mechanic in spite of it already being the weakest summon method next to rituals.

You should give it another try. ZeXal II as they called the later seasons is really good and the best in my opinion.
It has some of the greatest duels, the best villain and some very emotional scenes.
I always watched every episode of each series so I don't know if this is a good way to experience the anime, but have this chart someone made if you are interested.

Zexal starts out terrible and mindnumbing, becomes good, and then leaps between good and shit for the rest of the way.

ARC-V starts great for 51 eps, gets steadily worse for 30 eps, has a good 9 or so eps following that, and then it nosedives straight into shit harder than any of them with only a few good eps here and there following this.

Zexal's duels were terribly written. You can certainly argue some of the character interactions were good, but every major duel in zexal was just a matter of sitting on a boss monster for two eps.

They just do everything really well and off of 1 or 2 cards. Their fields aren't the most terrifying thing in the world but the consistency and recovery are damn good. They mesh well with many other archetypes as an an engine and can otk when they need to.

Actually got back into playing Tag Force 2 very recently. Having a good time but I was getting kicked around a little at the start. The starting deck in that game is horrible. In terms of more recent stuff I dabble with Duel Links when I'm in the common room.

Dranc uses the specific words "xyz summon" which means they would need a link monster up first or they would need to use a card that dumps directly from face down extra to the gy before they could be brought in as a typical "special summon" that goes into the standard monster field.

Now granted I haven't been keeping up with the most up to date meta so I don't know if the process I wrote is a handicap or not since damn near anything is possible in modern yugi but from what i'm looking at here everything's going to be slowing down a bit.

Nah, the way the deck works post links is: You XYZ summon, and then you masturbate a bit, then link summon using the XYZ + whatever you searched with the XYZ monster, then you continue with the endless XYZ masturbation after you jump through that one hoop.

No I think you are misunderstanding my implications. Before the spam can happen you typically must setup a link first which puts you one step back in terms of card usage, which means not only is it more expensive but it gives you more options to react to it as well as giving you more options as a whole since you can link with your opponents cards.

To put it simply the risk aspect has increased.

You can summon non-link monsters without a link monster. You just can't summon them into the main monster zone without a link monster or as you said from grave. However in your example it's not possible to summon from grave since extra deck monsters are seminomi and need to be summoned properly first.

I've been rewatching 5d's, just finished the Akiza rematch episodes, and like 50% of the duels is Yusei getting his ass beat until he gets lucky and pulls one card that just completely ass fucks the enemy and their archtype of the day. I wouldn't say I'd agree with this.

But that also means that decks that spam monsters from the extra deck will be crippled, while older decks and current decks that don't care about extra deck will be more viable now

I don't think face up extra deck pendulum summoning goes into extra zones. I know there's some ygo mod putting his foot down on that mechanic but the translated text from that picture everyone's looking at states "Extra Deck Monsters, like Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, and Link, cannot be Summoned to the Main Monster Zone, beware!"

At least it's exciting and has variety. In Arc-V, many characters only use around five different cards in all of their duels and they actually pull cards out of thin air to save themselves.

I will admit, having almost everyone who duels in 5d's be compotent is refreshing.

I'm almost positive that in the rare occasions where face down extra deck monsters get discarded they can be brought back from gy through typical methods unless the card itself specifically states it MUST be special summoned a unique way. Now granted you don't get xyz materials which makes most of the cards useless if attempting to bring them back in this manor.
