In terms of lifetime sales, will this thing do Wii numbers or somewhere between GameCube and NES/Famicom numbers once it phases out?
In terms of lifetime sales...
80-120 million.
Nope.
More like 50m - 65m LT.
People are greatly overestimating this thing.
Fuck no. It'd be 80 mil at absolute best with PS3 level support, and will only reach 120 mil if it becomes a social phenomenon like Pokemon Go.
It will sell exactly 72.4 million screencap this post I have insider connections.
Realistically, between 20 and 30 millions units would be respectable.
Only because console sales are continually falling.
Traditional consoles are fucked.
Nintendo were smart to do something different.
Is it just me or does anyone else believe this has high chances at being a social phenomenon
>Caring about sales numbers and not actual games.
Neck yourself, Sonygger/Xbot/PC Master Fag.
Is gaming over?
People play mobile on tablets and phones.
Casuals won't buy a Nintendo tablet and home console gamers get PS4s.
It will sell better than Wii U but worse than Gamecube.
About 20 million.
>inb4 drones get upset
Guys, mobiles have eaten up the handheld market and that will continue.
It has no games besides multiplat and wagglan.
I guessing they will make a mini version the size of the vita without removable controls to replace the 3ds in a year and will help them get around 50-60 million lifetime
It's got maybe a 2-3 hour battery life off its dock and there's already a heavy stigma against people who play full-fledged video games in public in America alone, there's absolutely no way it's going to end up like Normiemon Go. Expect it to be like a few levels under Wii in terms of sales, never gonna be anywhere close to those sales, but it'll do decent with good support.
>consoles are dying because people didn't buy the next iteration (Wii U) of a fad console (the Wii) and Microsoft fucked themselves by releasing a peer console to the PS4 for $100 more and far fewer exclusives
It will be such a failure that nintendo will cancel it after 3 months, screencap this.
Wii U numbers. So less than 15 million before it gets retired.
Probably not. Gaming is bigger than ever.
But I can forsee a time when we no longer buy hardware.
There won't be a PlayStation 7, 8 or 9.
You'll just get a Sony set-top box and pay them a subscription to stream games or some shit.
Gamecube numbers at the absolute best. There is nothing about this console that would make more than 20 million people buy one.
Backwards thinking. Pokemon Go made Pokemon more popular than EVER before. With third party support, Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, etc, it'll sell 80 million easy.
THE THING IS LITERALLY NOT GOING TO GET A SINGLE PREORDER AND NINTENDO WILL CANCEL IT BECAUSE OF HORIZON ZERO DAWN COMPLETELY TAKING ZELDA'S SALES, AND GAMING MOVES ON AS AN ARTFORM WITHOUT NINTENDO HOLDING IT BACK
FUCKING SCREENSHOT THIS AND PUT IT ON REDDIT I WANT THAT SWEET FUCKING REDDIT GOLD I'M GONNA FUCKING PRE
No, best case is it becomes a handheld that also plays portable pc indie games. That might attract a lot of people, make for some exclusives and create a market that the other consoles can't tap into, but not on the level you're thinking.
Nintendo are basically making the first iteration of tablets that have full priced games.
it will be the modern virtual boy
expect massive price drop within a year
SCREENCAP THIS!
hd pokemon
Doubtful.
Unlike the Wii, there's not as much of a strong casual pull to it and it's being released in the middle of a generation where the PS4 and Xbox One are nearing their peaks. No blue ocean strategy either. Plus, it'll be handled in a post-Iwata era under current Nintendo regardless of Iwata's involvement with Project NX prior to his death, so I doubt it'll be that much of a pull (except for probably Japan).
Thinking about it, aside from the obvious gimmicks of portable home console gaming on the go, motion controls, and HD rumble, the Switch is probably Nintendo's most back-to-basics/safest console since the GameCube. I'm dead fucking serious. Most games will be made with traditional control schemes in mind and most Western gamers will use it in docked mode, not to mention Nintendo really wants to get on 3rd parties' good sides again after the disaster of the Wii.
It'll most likely outsell the GameCube and N64, as well as obviously the Wii U. I'm betting SNES/NES-like sales lifetime and no more, even with Pokemon and Mario being added, and in all honesty, that's fine.
listen here.. you stupid fucking
"shill"
I am sick.. and TIRED.. of you people making fun of nintendo......
Iwata's death won't be for nothing... (rip...)
i'l make sure of that myself if i have to..........
You'll see... Nintendo always wins..........
>B-but mah graficks
Imagine if the switch was created much earlier in time for Pokemon go, and included additional features specific to the console that put it above the phone app.
why the fuck would people buy a 300$ pokemon go machine
Mobile games are actually just the worst. I'll take the dumbest and most soulless AAA game over any mobile game skinners box.
The idea of thousands of people running around with brand new $300 consoles in their hands would truly be a nigger's paradise.
>after the disaster of the Wii
Idiot.
You meant *Wii U*.
Every single person in the world will own a Switch, even some colombian tobacco farmer, some 80 year old grandma in Russia and some pirates off the coast of somalia
>It'll most likely outsell the GameCube and N64, as well as obviously the Wii U. I'm betting SNES/NES-like sales lifetime and no more
That's actually a really good outcome. When they do a revision and get better battery life out of it, I can actually see it doing 3ds numbers.
Sadly, I see this happening.
Digital is the future whether we like it or not. Consoles will be a relic of the past come the 22nd Century.
>Pokemon Go made Pokemon more popular than EVER before
Spot the underage.
Game Freak can't even make good-looking games at whatever pathetic resolution the 3DS has, let alone a full 3D home console game in 720p. You are also vastly overestimating how many people give a shit about Pokemon. Mario Kart was the biggest selling game on the Wii U and it didn't even break 8 million, and that's a game with a lot more appeal and a wider target audience than Pokemon. It's a moot point even discussing it though, because the Nu-4DS XXL Big Gulp will be coming out 2 years into the Switch's lifecycle to make all the drones buy yet another shit tier device for one game a year.
Gimmicks aside, depends if they release games, likely it will sell aswell as the 3ds when it gets a price drop, they can sucker us in by giving us a GameCube/gba line up
Imagine:
Fire emblem
Metroid
Fzero
Animal crossing
Zelda
Pokemon
Smash bros
Virtual console games out the ass
They suckered me in to buying a wii u and I'm not interested in the switch so I think it will fail. They expect wii u owners to mindlessly buy this thing. I'm not rebuying mario kart and other ports. Fuck that.
They could literally just play pokemon Sun/Moon at HD with newer textures and the pokedex 3d models
between wii u and 3ds.
That screenshot looks like shit, and it's clearly taken from an emulator running on a PC with the combined equivalent power of at least 4 Switches.

Refute it, then. Pokemon Go broke numerous records.
You got more games than ps4 this gen, quit your bitching.
good. pc gaming 4lyfe
>Nintendo home consoles
>price drops
>Nintendo home consoles selling double what a real console sells without the Wii Sports gimmick
What's your point?
after a year they will probably release a handheld only version for cheaper
Game Freak is still decades away from being competent enough to make anything nearing the quality of a home console game.
There's absolutely no way it'll do Wii numbers. Nintendo doesn't actually expect it to be anywhere near the Wii in terms of sales, they just have to say it will so the investors will be happy.
Yes, Nintendo consoles get price drops. tThe Gamecube dropped to half price after the first two years.
Being honest, the other user is right. All they would need to attract consumers is release a game like the handheld ones with better textures. I'm not advocating that but it's true.
If we go by Nintendo's history, it'll sell somewhere between "Who" and "Cares". Seriously, none of you people or your dads work at Nintendo.
18 million at best.
It's not a Fifa machine, nor a COD machine. Neither is it a party console like the Wii was. Normies don't give much of a fuck, most normies don't even know it's coming, at least here in Europe. The same fate as the Wiiu awaits it since you need the normies, but without shooters or sport games you won't get those.
My predictions are, it's over the Gamecube sales, but will probably never reach the one of the Wii
People would not buy a system for a game like that, which is my point. He's pretending a Pokemon game would push the Switch over 20 million lifetime sales, it wouldn't. Anyone who would want to play Pokemon already owns 3 3DS, a Switch, a Wii U, etc. It wouldn't draw in a new crowd forcing them to buy a Switch.
First revision is fucked, it was pure Blue Ocean gamble and it's already failed as that. If that's really all they've got, it will sell probably half of WiiU, almost entirely from Japan.
They could turn it around with a second revision that ditches the asinine portable/home bet-hedging and is definitively their next-gen Portable, 3DS successor.
25-150M is a rather worthless guess.
ok, somewhere between the sales of Gamecube and 3DS?
>The Gamecube dropped to half price after the first two years
>A system released 16 years ago got a price cut 14 years ago right before Nintendo released it's best selling home console by a fucking mile
Yet the Wii U is still $300 after being the worst thing they've released since the Virtual Boy. Really makes you think. But I'm sure you're right and the Switch will be sold for $20 by next year and 5 billion people will buy them, Nintenbro.
Oh, so between 25M and 150M? That narrows it down.
Pokemon Go broke records of people playing a free game for a couple of months. It's dead as fuck now with only a few autistic weirdos playing it now.
Meanwhile, the Pokemon franchise continues to sell millions of copies of each title they launch, even if its basically the same game every time. And of course that they also sell a lot of merchandise.
That's because they don't want anyone to buy a WiiU for BotW.
They hate anyone who buys BotW for WiiU because these people have not bought a Switch to play BotW
How pissed off will you be if they give out 10-20 GameCube games for free with Nintendo ambassador, still not worth the price?
an exclusive mainline hd pokemon game wouldn't convince the pokemon fanbase to buy a switch?
The WiiU 2 doesn't have a bright future.
Pokemon autists would already own a Switch, and there aren't more than 10 million of them.
>the Switch is probably Nintendo's most back-to-basics/safest console since the GameCube
Nintendo has gone full-on slowpoke, tablet computers have been out for fucking years now while being supremely popular and it's finally dawned on them to throw their lot in.
Not OP but it will probably sell better then Wii U at least.
More like 15m for Pokemon.
And what about an exclusive Monster Hunter game? Monster Hunter is guaranteed 4M sales in Japan and 3M in the west. Now we're up to 20M to be generous. Add in Mario/Mario Kart and Zelda and we're at 25M. If they keep the ball rolling with games like the 3DS library I can see 35M being very possible.
The entire real fanbase already preordered the Switch.
>It's dead as fuck now
kek
You know what I don't like about the Switch in particular? Nothing about it makes me think "Nintendo". It just looks like a generic tablet with one of those controller attachments. Even the blue/red Joycons don't do much for me. I remember my first GBA SP, I was blown away. I'd never seen anything like it. Same with the DS.
But this? I've seen this. I own a tablet. Why's it special?
Does your tablet play next-gen console games at the potential level of an Xbox One?
>potential level of an Xbox One
Lol
50 million tops.
Nintendo are damned if they do, damned if they don't.
The reality is, like some user posted above, the switch is the least gimmicky console Nintendo have released since the GameCube.
They're really pushing the notion that this is a dedicated gaming system.
They also designed to look less the fisher price aesthetics of their previous tech, giving it a more mature gadget appearance.
People will be pissed no matter what they do.
A lotta people are thinking "IT'S THE NEXT WII!", but I don't see the casual gravitation aside from 1-2 Switch.
I'm getting an odd GameCube/N64 vibe off of this thing, no that it's a bad indication, but more of a "safe zone" console.
I agree with it being massively overestimated, though.
Basically , but then also factor in that upon its introduction in America, Pokemon was basically a posterboy system seller for the GB, GBC, & N64, was one of the anime Big Three that opened up the rest of the world to anime alongside Dragon Ball & Sailor Moon, got its grill all over cereals, Pop Tarts, musical stage shows, etc., and overall was one of the defining cornerstones of late 90s/early 2000s culture. A little dinky phone game that played off of nostalgic feelings and got a few dumbass Hot Topic handbooks and posters isn't going to be one of the defining things about the series that spawned it.
This. True Nintendo fans are thinking one thing, theyre happy that nintendo arent being autistic and making consoles for 3rd party and look cool, but they're not being imaginative and nintendo-y. Its a shame really
10 mil. 20 if they are lucky.
It needs a specialized killer app to be able to do that, and it doesn't have one right now - Splatoon 2, 12Switch, Arms, none of them could possibly fill that role.
A carefully designed Pokemon or Smash would have the best chances of creating that sort of situation, but we've seen neither IP for the system yet - though that could easily change come the next Direct.
This. its quite sad really. I wish the nintendo fanbase was big enough so we could sustain a niche market and keep nintendo in business
>I don't see the casual gravitation aside from 1-2 Switch.
I think that's deliberate. There's a reason 1-2-Switch isn't bundled with the console. They're trying to avoid the stigma of the console being another casual motion wagglefest. They really want it to shine as a gaming system for gamers.
I guarantee you the 1st bundle will be this Christmas and it won't be a 1-2-Switch bundle.
It is, user. You go to any college campus nowadays and nobody's playing it, ask around and people say they dropped it because it got boring. Adding new Pokemon is just going to kill it further because it's not the exact same Gen I feelings the normie crowd grew up with, and only very few dedicated Pokemon fanboys and fangirls will find themselves playing it.
Being on any Sup Forums board all the time will make you wrongly optimistic and out of touch with reality.
I think it will barely surpass the Wii U and that's about it.
Why are you being purposefully obtuse?
>what about an exclusive Monster Hunter game
Fans of MH already know that they will get an exclusive Monster Hunter game on their new Nintendo console, this has been the case since the Wii. You act like everyone buys a system for one game and nothing else, everyone knows a Nintendo console will have Monster Hunter/Mario/Mario Kart/Zelda, each doesn't magically bring in 5 million plus console purchases.
>They really want it to shine as a gaming system for gamers
Could have fucking fooled me, because almost everything I've seen about this piece of shit is that it's a casual wagglefest with a lot of Wii U and indie ports.
Nope. Fuck the switch
Anyone got any ideas?
If I really wanted to be as obtuse as you're implying my estimate would have been closer to 40M for just the games mentioned. There isn't perfect overlap and I would say 20-25M is a good ballpark for those games alone.
Worse than the Wii U.
Agreed
>They're trying to avoid the stigma of the console being another casual motion wagglefest
They damn well should include these games, Wii Sports was fucking great when it came on the scene along with Nintendoland.
They're basically templates to showcase what the console can do apart from your regular ol button clicker game, it's just up to game developers to capitalise on it.
More like 30M
It's not a good ballpark for those games alone, it's a good ballpark for the system's entire lifespan. If someone would buy a console for Nintendo shit, there is an astoundingly high likelihood that they are obsessed with all of Nintendo's franchises. Someone who buys a Switch for Zelda is more than likely also enough of a manbaby to buy Splatoon, and Mario, and X Y Z. There is absolutely no reason to assume this will sell drastically more than the Wii U when it's the same console except now you can unplug it for 3 hours and play it in the kitchen. People know what they're getting with Nintendo systems, all of these games have already been accounted for.
I don't disagree with you.
But bundling 1-2-Switch with the console just gives ammunition to people to automatically dismiss the console as yet another wii-waggle-fest. So I can understand why they're trying to avoid that.
The marketing is already better than the Wii U, so logically, it has to outsell it.
But, like user said I don't think it'll be the next blue ocean thing, either.
The reason to assume it would sell drastically better than the Wii U is the existence of the 3DS. You can't just pick one of Nintendo's recent examples to shit on the product. Ignoring 65M sales to laugh at 13M sales is going to paint the wrong image.
The Wii U doesn't even have all the franchises under it's belt. Remember that we're dealing with the combined libraries of the Wii U AND 3DS. Wii U didn't have a mainline Pokemon game, and for it's entire lifespan didn't have it's own original Zelda. And the one MH game it got was kneecapped by the existence of the 3DS version.
We won't have to be dealing with fighting over which games go where with the Switch, all the games and their sales will be in one place. And to generously average out the 3DS and Wii U's lifetime sales that would sit at a range of +/-38M which is right around where I said.
I don't know why every time we discuss the damn thing it has to be compared to the Wii U like the 3DS doesn't exist. And by the way, the 3DS got by just fine in sales figures with a 3 hour battery life.
