people parroting the ">gayming laptop" meme have not even used one since 2005 or so. My 2009 model Asus G60vx still works, and can run surprisingly many modern games OK-ish at lower settings. Its 4GB RAM limit is its ultimate weakness though.
You are better asking Sup Forums. also you can check laptopscribes.com or logicalincrements.
That clevo is good, I have the 1060 version (is a little slimmer), is very quiet and doesn't weight too much.
Also don't buy eurocom unless you can apply for student discount, you can find cheaper resellers in amazon.
>and can run surprisingly many modern games OK-ish at lower settings
fucking kek
Nvidia changed the naming scheme for laptop GPus, they are no longer 10XXm, but just 10XX. Congrats on getting jewed
Kind of related, but I got a Surface Pro a few months back and it makes me wish there were more TBS and RPG games with touchscreen support. I don't care much for playing big AAA titles on the go, but being able to take a few turns in a 4X while I'm out or sitting on the couch would be nice.
Because gaming laptops are retarded, only manchildren buy them. Well adjusted adults buy MacBooks and game on desktops / consoles.
>>/ck/
That's because they're literally the same cards but slightly slower, there's no special laptop cards anymore.
>mfw spent $3000 on epic aliumware laptop
>mfw this WILL trigger the poorfag gaymen desktop cucks with worse specs than me
I plan on living with nothing but a backpack traveling for a few years and need to decide between
>MSI gs63vr
>Razer blade 14
>gigabyte aero 14wv7-bk4
I'm selling everything I own so the price isn't the biggest issue
Really? There's no way a desktop GPU can fit in a laptop or that a laptop battery would have enough power.
forgot pic
well for 3k you could have built a god - tier pc but whatever richfag
settle down, azusa
>his desktop gpu from 2009 can run modern games on high settings
ok buddy
They're likely higher binned chips and while they aren't 100% identical, they're within 5-10% of the desktop versions (at stock clock speeds), which is way better than the old m series days where they were half as fast.
You might have to check your facts then, grandpa
implying I can't have both
i can still run games on high settings with this 2008 CPU and a GTX 760 GPU
fear me
I'm just saying it can't be the same as a regular GPU. Just look at one. Unless the laptop is 8 inches thick it won't fit in there,
enjoy trying to modify it with current gear 2 years
into the future, don't you get it yet user? Desktop
superiority comes from the fact that instead of
buying another $3k machine you just buy a new
gpu/cpu or whatever and make your rig more
relevant without giving the jew company any money.
3k AUD btw, so like half it in USD
>$3000 alienware laptop
and it's still not as nice as my 15" Retina MacBook Pro
before just now, it was unheard of some 10 years old gaming hardware being able to keep up with new releases. For the 450€ I paid for it, this lil' machine has exceeded all expectations.
you do know that majority of the desktop GPUs are just the cooler? You integrate the chip into the main MOBO, and it becomes practically unnoticeable.
Also, nobody plays on a goddamn battery. No idea where that meme even originates from.
so these laptop GPUs probably run at 1000 degrees?
and well yeah the whole point of laptops is mobility, if you're plugged in all the time doesn't that defeat the point?
>Unless the laptop is 8 inches thick it won't fit in there.
this thing has a gtx 1080 inside
>thinking i have 2009 gpu
what's going on here? laptopfags are THE worst
And it's an actual 1080? What temps does it get?
How is this possible? Why don't they just start making them this small for desktops if they're the same thing?
high settings on games that came out in 2012
doesn't count, user :)
Have you been living under a rock for the past 2 years? Nvidia now uses full desktop GPU's in laptops; ofcourse they're custom made run at reduced clock speeds (I believe only ~15% lower) but they're the real deal. Granted those laptop's are still pretty bulky but good riddance on the shitty 'm' line.
They don't. It's amazing that people are OK with all the other specs pretty much doubling their performance once in every few years, but don't ever think of the improvements in power efficiency and thus temperature management. Cooling technology has greatly improved as well.
I bet you've never even given all our modern phones a second thought either? We got some ~2ghz 8-core processors with separated graphics processing units in them + something like 4GB of RAM, in a thin wallet sized package with seemingly no cooling, and nobody's burning their ears using them.
it's an actual 1080, yes.
You really don't get how small the processor chips are nowadays?
>GTX 760
it's from 2013 tho
No. Poorfags that whine about gaming laptops are the worst.
>tfw dropped $2000 beaver bucks on this thing
I regret paying that much but being able to play everything on mid-ultra at 60fps wherever I want is nice.
You're just proving that you don't think, and have problems comprehending what you're reading.
The laptop obviously runs hotter than the desktop variants. Clock speeds are lower. The only reason why desktop GPU's are still so big is because well most are aftermarket with whatever extra features and shit; that and you're average desktop cases are still pretty big. The demand just isn't there yet.
>tfw after a year now my laptop stays at like 90 degrees c playing high intensity games and I play like this for hours
I don't know what more I can do to lower the temps. I have the fan on ultra. I got a cooling pad (waste of money). I'm thinking I just need to play outside in the winter but even then I doubt temps would get very low.
My pc cost 2.1k. Don't hit me with that "poorfag pc lamer" bullshit.
Reapply the thermal paste.
This is normal. Hell my PS4 and Xbox360 are both hotter than my PC at almost all times; hell the PS4's temps are alarming. They're small devices with restricted airflow; what do you expect?
Those temps better not be at idle or you just defeated your point
73°C during stress tests
desktop reference 1080s can get a lot hotter at about 83-85°C
read the filename
which of these 4 would you guys pick?
>those prices for a 1050
Wew, get something like this
amazon.com
Ideally it would be the one with a 1050ti for $1299
>Gaming laptop thread
Stopped reading there
desu I just have a mid-range laptop for uni work, playing in bed and having something easier to post from while I'm playing console games.
Works fine for me but then again I'm a /vr/fag that loves old shit so this thing is perfect for me
It's a shame amazon.ca is fill with fake posts of 300$ gaming laptops that have 1060+s in them. At first I thought they were just stolen, but then I see the same seller has literally every laptop made.
>I literally cannot read
It was taken after having played the best FPS game of 2010s on ~High settings for an hour or so.
>1050ti for $900
that's the one
Wow, I like this one. Can get 2 TB and more ram for the same price I'm lookin at too. Thanks annon
I have a regular laptop with iGPU and I don't care for desktops or "gaming laptops".
Because I'm not 12 years old anymore.
If you move around a lot then a gaming notebook makes sense not to mention mobile GPUs are pretty damn powerful nowadays.
The fab size has become small enough that they can drop the entire chipset into a laptop, with the only difference being a downclock to keep temps cool.

>$1600
>1070
if I wasn't such a poorfag, this would honestly be my next purchase.
Too bad they run hot and are super noisy. Hope you like playing with headphones on.
Does Clevo have a decent customer support on your area?
>Too bad they run hot and are super noisy.
Depends on the machine, the game, your settings, etc. Better one barely exceed +70 degrees C under load nowadays, and any sensible person would use a cooler pad anyway.
My oldass Asus IS loud, mostly because I modded it to keep the fan-speed at 100% nonstop, but otherwise it'd be much quieter than my desktop.
Plus, laptop speakers always suck ass. Not using headphones would be pretty idiotic.
The single thing that makes gaming laptops viable at this point in time, is that graphic cards are now so efficient they can more or less put desktop chips in laptops. And even then it's not great.
Otherwise gaming laptops have been pretty bad. I'm still on my 2500k, but I've swapped graphics cards 3 or 4 times since getting it. You can't switch GPU on a 2000$ high end 2011 laptop, so you're fucked.
Then comes the problem of the displays. The TN ones are usually shit, many have nasty matte coatings, and laptops for some reason lack overdrive so they are all 20-30+ms average and you can't get VA panels.
I mainly use my desktop, but I have a MSI GE72VR that I love
The GPU is the same, the video card layout is different, but for the most part they are virtually identical.
The only thing is that on laptops they run 10% due to heat. That's it
any of you niggas got a suggestion?
Gigabyte Aero looks like a decent laptop + you will appreciate the huge battery since you plan on travelling a lot. MSI GS63 is a no-no because of the laughable battery that goes from 100 to 0 in about 2hrs of web browsing
>mfw I still use a gaming laptop from 4 years ago
>mfw is HP
>mfw it overheats like a slut
>mfw Windows 10
>mfw multiple BSODs
>mfw nowadays games run at medium or minimal
