So I know we're all happy for the switch and all, but lemme let you on something in concerns with Nintendo and their current relations with smaller devs.
I was a dev on the Nintendo Developer program. I released a few games and made a good sum of money off them. I don't want to reveal myself cause some of the things I say may go against the NDA, but this is more about all the other indies in our program rather than myself.
So, currently, you heard about Nintendo reaching out to devs to make games for their Switch console right? Well, us guys who were making games for their Wii U and 3Ds were instantly shut out from joining this list. Now, you'd think having experience on their console, we'd be given priority, but instead they go after devs like this:
Who had no interest making anything for Nintendo, but the company went for them anyway. What is going on, mainly, is that there's currently a secret club sort of thing happening right now. If you're not in with the Montreal, SF, or Seattle scene, you are not being seen as far as smaller devs are concerned. A lot of devs have been vocal about the favoritism Nintendo is playing. We wouldn't have minded if it was just top AAA companies with tried and true histories and a fanbase. We understand that. But they have an inconsistent choosing base for people who aren't as famous. You have devs like the following who just asked and was brought on for asking, while we did the same during the same timeframe and were given the cold feet treatment.
This is just informing you all what is really going on as far as Nintendo and indie games are concerned. Personally, it really rubbed me the wrong way how there's something going on at NoA that's making this out to be a three month embargo with those they consider in their network rather than on seniority and dedication.
Joseph King
which can be accounted for by regional delegation. there's no way some Japanese suits are going to sit around researching Western mid-tier devs to sell to the West; they'll defer to to NoA/E, who will pass it down the chain to a department low enough to actually have connections and interests in these people.
Ethan Jackson
didn't nintendo announce that devkits will be just 500$?
Levi Johnson
>us guys who were making games for their Wii U and 3Ds were instantly shut out from joining this list. > If you're not in with the Montreal, SF, or Seattle scene, you are not being seen as far as smaller devs are concerned.
>implying that of every indie dev who made things for 3ds and Wii U, not a single one was in the Monteal, SF, or Seattle scene
David Ward
Yeah it's no different from getting through a application process. But for them to suddenly go from the open dev system of Wii U to an instant close was a very odd change for them. The Wii U eshop wasn't bogged down with a lot of shovelware, either. There weren't many games on either, and even then, Nintendo's approval process helped get rid of a lot of clout.
But yes, currently, NoA is basically doing a huge filter by shutting out everyone who want to develop for it, and are only going after those they prefer to highlight their "upfront" titles. There's some shitty games on the eShop, but there's some good decent ones, too, that would make a good splash on the Switch, but instead Nintendo is not giving any of those people any opportunities.
Yeah we've been hearing a lot of that around the bush, but I have a certain feeling, based on how 3ds dev kits were priced, that the $500 would account for one or so parts, and you'll have to pay for additional parts.
Robert Walker
>implying that of every indie dev who made things for 3ds and Wii U, not a single one was in the Monteal, SF, or Seattle scene Allow me to clarify. When I say scene, I mostly mean connections. If you went to any of Nintendo's indie events, participated in the IGF, or other similar events that are usually hosted in that sphere of influence, you are more likely to be allowed onto the Switch right now.
Jordan Gutierrez
DF on the Switch? That'd be the first game worth getting it for.
Samuel Bailey
>can bring a high end PC to its knees
it would be literally unplayable on a switch
Robert Richardson
tsk
Liam Reed
PCs don't have knees??
David Lee
REAL
Bentley Taylor
almost too real?
Gabriel Clark
>there will never be a version of DF that is portable with an actual UI
Isaac Sanchez
they just dont know
Andrew Cruz
How the fuck would DF even work on a switch? DF has too much shit to do. Maybe a Ui wheel sort of thing that can be brought up with each button?
Michael Garcia
click/touch an area/dworf to bring up a list of commands and have a drop down menu for general commands, that would solve 90% of the ui problems
Lincoln Wilson
>I don't want to reveal myself cause some of the things I say may go against the NDA, but this is more about all the other indies in our program rather than myself.
You mean your game absolutely sucked balls >Its not me! its them!
Eli Anderson
I almost feel like the resolution should be scaled up by 2 to make touching a lot easier.
Luis Kelly
Not at all saying that. I'm just representing the feelings of the other devs who have developed for the Wii U and the 3DS. I've already concluded it's just a matter of us not being in the know.
Nathaniel Roberts
>that amount of buttons vs DF's interface
Isaac Parker
Portable Daggerfall? Todd is on the case. You will buy it, right? Of course you will.
Xavier Wright
Nintendo are a bunch of nigger gooks and Nintendo of America especially is full of cronyism, nepotism and corruption. I thought we made this clear in Gamergate, OP.
Justin Ross
do you have a big dick and how often do you shitpost?
Jaxon Stewart
I still cry myself to sleep knowing there was a working beta for a PSP version of Oblivion that we will never get to see.
Adam Perry
>imagining daggerfall plus dwarf fortress it would be great. dwarf fortress in faux- 3D with argonian tiddies. Is there anything we can do about this, OP?
Oliver Hall
>2011+6 >nintendo
The 3DS was looks great for devs, but who in their right mind would want to develop anything for the WiiU?
And I'm going to be honest and say the switch looks like a meme console that will be dead in under a year after the hype wears off.
I'm no dev but seeing how the wind is blowing I'd focus on getting my foot in the door with Sony atm.
Hudson Taylor
>Is there anything we can do about this, OP? Well, we can always make a loud enough voice that Nintendo listens, but they gave us DLC for BotW, so probably not.
Nolan Moore
Yeah I'm thinking of going to PS4 at this point.
Joshua Ortiz
Seniority and dedication almost killed nintendo. Everything has been the old boy network taken to the extreme since jump up in redmond. What you have here are the retards in the retard departments like treehouse getting promoted and pushing their retard agendas.
Jaxon Ramirez
The treehouse truly is a corruption of NoA. And Reggie is the head of it all.
Ryder Robinson
Bill has more say in affairs than reggie and the ears to whisper into. But then they're all strangled by japanese micromanagement.
Xavier Gutierrez
>it would be literally unplayable on a switch It could be playable at a 3x3 world with a 1x1 embark
Chase Allen
...
Jonathan Cooper
>Bill A translator that is head of product marketing. Shit, everything makes sense now.
Daniel Barnes
I like Nintendo's products for the most part (I even preordered the Switch) but I really can't sugarcoat it: Nintendo is run by assholes.
Wyatt Sanchez
>DLC for a zelda game
Fucking why
Luis Rodriguez
You should've seen it coming from MILES away honestly.
>Wii U Era >DLC expansion for NSBU in NSLU >Pikmin 3 DLC >Mario Kart 8 DLC >Smash Bros DLC >Tokyo Mirage Sessions DLC >Hyrule Warriors DLC
>plenty of 1st party 3DS games that have DLC
>Aonuma talking about wanting to reuse BotW's engine to make smaller scale projects (testing the waters with a new dungeon and new story would fit the bill for that)
William Long
Because current year. This is what the games industry has become. This is what people have been screaming at Nintendo to do, to "get with the times". Welcome back from your sleep, you're going to have a bad time.
Daniel Bell
shit
Nolan Martinez
Because they're trying to make the console's first year look better. They don't have the output themselves to last the whole year for the majority of console owners, and they've already learned not to trust third parties to cover their console launches, so they're taking a game they know everybody's buying a switch for, and giving it DLC that's designed to be purchased with the game, and force players to comeback and replay the whole game during droughts
Matthew Powell
I wouldnt mind this if the game didnt look so boring
