You're both right. Right now Discord isn't making any money and is operating on venture capital. They're going to have to start making money in the near future, and we'll have to wait and see what form that takes.

If everyone jumped from Teamspeak to Discord so easily, what makes them think people aren't going to jump from Discord to whatever the next big VOIP client is.

The question is, why should I use it? The only Discord links I see are either in shitty stale generals filled with nothing else but "bump" or in threads that are already used for discussion.

Discord is fine, but it's missing a few necessary features like built-in background noise and echo cancellation, in-app microphone testing, and push-to-talk; all of which are things that Teamspeak already has.

The problem with that is that /trash/ was never intended for it. It was just meant to be a board for dumping off-topic stuff, not exclusively furfags. /mlp/ does it's job by mostly containing the autism in one board, and that board is actually listed. I'm not saying there should be a /fur/ board, I just think furries need to chill.

Discord is better than other services because it had extremely user friendly voice AND chat and image/video integration. Also free, for now. And anyone who's still worried about companies selling your data should realize that you're a little late in that.

Discords voice quality is exceptionally bad. Discord is only good for its well done text chat. My group uses mumble for voice and discord for shitposting.

You don't have to rent or buy a server to use Discord, no. Its free and just comes with extra (if useless) benefits if you pay (like being able to have a gif avatar and/or upload larger file sizes onto servers directly)
