Q1 MP is very simple compared to later games. Rocket launcher reigns supreme and red armor is ridiculously powerful due to its 90% damage reduction rather than just being normal armor that lasts longer, as well as armor in Q1 not degrading over time.

Ridiculously fast paced when good players are fighting, though, arguably moreso than Q3A. Also no railgun shitters.

For Multiplayer just play Quake Live.

For singleplayer Quake 1.

in the time that it took battleborn to release 5 characters (that take much more effort due to helix leveling), 3 maps, 1 gamemode (second coming soon), and 5 coop missions.

This. Q1 singleplayer is fantastic as long as you don't go into it expecting Doom. It's both slower (enemies take more damage, your own weapons are less powerful, Ranger doesn't run as fast as Doomguy) and faster (no wall-humping to find secrets, sequence breaking out the ass as soon as you get the RL, Ranger's movement is much smoother than Doomguy's and can jump all around shit).

Play it on Hard, not Nightmare because Nightmare breaks enemy AI. Then go play both official expansion packs, then play a bunch of levels from Quaddicted, then play Arcane Dimensions because that will fucking ruin other maps for you forever.

Team Fortress 2 is proof that these kind of games don't need a lot of characters, they simply need weapons and maps.

For some reason, if at the beginning you have it set to random mirror, you'll get the error. Just retry the installation and specify the high download speed mirror in France. That worked for me.

Also, don't download the high-res textures.

my dad came up with the setup for some reason, M1 for forward, space for backwards, enter for secondary
i altered it a lot so now i can do most actions with just my mouse

Added a new currency strictly for cards called "essence". Essence is only obtained from chests. Cards now have rarity and some cards cost a fuck load more than others. Gold is basically useless for anything but chests now.
Legendary cards were added that give extra buffs but also cost your soul. Some aspects of characters like Ying's damage buff from hitting all shots or Evie's wormhole card were removed and made into legendary cards.
Removed Barik because, who knows.
Readded an old game mode but you can't actually play it for some reason despite being able to on the PTR.
Other general bugs like chests only giving one item.
