About to try to get into this game again:
Is it worth the struggle? Last time I tried I quit because the game was so slow in the first few hours.

tactics advance was better
>inb4 muh laws
stop breaking the law you dumb niggers
All tRPGs are slow (if you mean like moving and animations). They may just not be your cup of tea.
Alternatively emulate the PSP version and turbo through the slow parts. Story, and gameplay are really good. But its a game that rewards taking your time, some enjoy that others dont.
FFT is definitely a game that you're going into with a mindset that you want to seriously invest the time into it. It's clunky as hell and chapter 1 is a hell of a slog but its still one of the best strategy rpg's ever made
Fucking simplified version desu m8
>invest time into it
Oh fug, I don't want to spend 200 hours on a game.
I'm interested because of the story and music are so praised, but the gameplay cant be that bad can it.
FFT (WoTL) > FFTA2 > FFTA
FFXII (ZA) > FFXII:RW= VS
=
FFT (WoTL)=FFXII (ZA) > FFTA2 > FFXII:RW= VS > FFTA.
For the record, FFTA is an 8/10.
Like that other user said, its a game where you invest time. Like in Xcom 2 where you micromanage the shit out of it and get an orgasm out of flawlessing the missions. Its for people who enjoy investing time to get good results. idk but maybe like studying a lot for a test and then doing well. The gameplay is slow, thats for sure. If you cant deal with the gameplay then skip it because you wont be able to either enjoy it or complete it.
In some ways maybe
But i think that's for the best, it's retarded that you can make your melee fighters near faithless and be immune to magic
I played the advance game first and I loved it. Then I tried to get into the original and I quit before the first hour. It felt extremely clunky, even tho you are able to rotate the camera most of the time I had units obscured by the terrain.
I've just accepted the fact that I've ruined any chance of enjoying this game by having played an updated version. I'll have to live with that for the rest of my life.
I liked A2 better, because it has a more lenient law system, and not FFTA shit like
>fight entire team of monsters
>LAW: don't damage monsters
Like literally wtf aside from equipping my whole party with bonecrusher theres nothing i can do, and theres no way to set up in advance for laws
When I say invest time I don't mean waste 200 hours. But it takes a while to get used to the fact that the gameplay is archaic as fuck it's not like you can pick it up and immediately be into it.
How long is a standard playthrough?
You get a team together that can break power, and then you all beat a chocobo to weakness and to almost-death, then you all beat each other with no power for JP
Forever
Repeat until you're all 999 JP
Thats prob the only retarded law. As opposed to the majority in A2. However, you could move around to change laws or just have an antilaw (since you know you can see it in advance)
The law system was good in that it promoted variety, having either multiple characters with jobs or few but with a lot of jobs mastered and if you didnt like that you could just waste days until the law didnt suck.
Its okay user.
I got Persona 4 spoiled and cant play the game ever without knowing the ending.
A2 was an improvement in every way except story. Man the story sucked ass
If you've already played it and are looking for something new (but similar) you can try some of the rom hacks on ffhacktics. Some of them greatly change the story, abilities, units and weapons/items.
Can't say, I did a lot of extra stuff and it took me around 50 hours. I think 35 hours.
I'm not counting all the time you're gonna waste losing against Wiegraf :^)
I hated the setting. Couldn't handle the furshit. And yet somehow IX was my favorite.
It's neat that Mewt is the librarian at least
>Furshit
Didt know moogles and lizardmen counted as furshit
Laws were fucking hilarious; going into a story battle and watching the Judge send everyone to jail was the best part of the game
A2 has way better characters and the story isnt pants on retarded with a kid who wants to fuck over his little brother while passing on every kids dream. A2's story was just simple and thats all it really needs because the gameplay is so good.
My playthroughs are about 25-30 hours but I also don't do the cheesy grinding that a lot of other players do (you don't really need it unless you want to break the game in hilarious ways)
>watching the Judge send only your units to jail was the best part of the game
Fix'd
>Last time I tried I quit because the game was so slow in the first few hours.
There are 2 reasons this can happen.
>You're playing the unpatched PSP version
The port is fucking garbage because Square Enix's programmers introduced an artificial time delay on each spell and ability cast, so battles are unnecessarily long compared to the PS1 version. There are patches out on the internet (insanedifficulty, ffthacktics) that fix this problem.
>You have ADHD
Congrats, I can't fix that. It's not like FFT as a whole is a long game, it's only 38 hours howlongtobeat.com
Meanwhile the Witcher 3 is 47 howlongtobeat.com
If I recall correctly there were two more races in there too. But I just wanted more of real Ivalice not a bunch of children playing in the snow.
Also the whole transported to a different world thing was a huge turn off. Just make the setting the fucking setting. Own it. I might try again with an open mind though.
>lizardmen race
>hunchback lookin ass race
>humans
>bunny eared girls
>girl with horns and dragon wings race
>pig man iguana lookin ass lizardmen race
>Moogles
Furshit. Like I said.
Moogles maybe
Other things, no
>gonna waste losing against Wiegraf
T-that sounds fun right....
slap this thing into an emulator and play at triple speed. you live in the future for fucks sake.
Idgi, IX has the same levels of anthro characters. Are you sure its not because freya got your degen dick hard?
You honestly think the beginning of the game is not slow?
I wonder if the devs actually tested the game after Orlandu joins your party, the game becomes so easy that it's almost laughable almost like Velius is the actual final boss.
>you live in the future for fucks sake.
>tfw Donald Trump won in this timeline
The tutorial? Yes, because you only get to control 1 character and watch the rest play the game for you.
The rest of the game? It's slow in the same way that RTS are slow, and that means it's not
T.G. Cid is a failsafe added into retardproof the game. If you're bad at video games, you can use him
I tried to like tactics advance but the movements and attacks are so slow I can't stand it
shame, because I love the job system
>shame, because I love the job system
Play FF9 then
Why even play other FF games than FFT?
They are literally press x to win visual novels with mediocre stories..
I think I'm gonna try III first
Download the Rebirth MK II mod. It changes many things in the game and makes it better in general.
>rebalances the jobs
>magic in general has faster charge times and higher hit rates
>story battles that don't have a "boss" type enemy now have one
>some story bosses have different abilities/equipment
>every random battle spot has a chance to trigger a new unique battle
>Calculator job removed, new Lunar Knight job replaces it
>monsters have new abilities
>monsters in general received a buff
>skip through the music
>probably skip through some of the dialogue when you're tempted to
Eh, why bother, unless you're grinding JP. Which you shouldn't be.
I was thinking of getting the PSN one just so I wont be tempted to do any save states or stuff like that.
Nah, you should still emulate it so you don't have to deal with the garbage translation.
How bad can it be?
kek no power? i don't remember that.
Also before the Dorter Trade city mision, i grinded ramza to ninja.
>kill everything but 1, usually a goblin
>whole team throws rocks at him till he's near death.
>Whole team just throws stones at each other.
good times.
>being so bad at video games you need to grind like an idiot for 5 hours
ouch
If you don't want to deal with the garbage translation, you play it in Japanese. There is no other way to avoid garbage translations.
...
bump
The whole game cant be like that ?
It can get pretty bad.
>Ramza learns scream
>use it often
>become over-leveled
Define "overleveled." Without any random battles you'll always be about 10 levels behind enemies.
This is why EXP per action is a shitty system, because a.) it's abusable and b.) it's in a game with level scaling, so it's easy to accidentally fuck yourself if you don't understand how that works.
EXP should be on a per mission basis.
You forgot lack of postgame. Dumped so many hours in FFTA for Excalibur2 and all the other Postgame gear
Can't seem to properly experience this game.
>psp emulation is shit
>android version has poor performance and no cloud saving
>emulated playstation doesn't have all the new content and the WotL patch won't ever be completed
Fuck me.
>grinding gear you'll never use because it's postgame
Almost as retarded as MMORPGs
>PSP emulation is shit
What planet do you live on? PPSSPP is godlike in terms of emulators
Can't seem to make it run right. Sound is always fucked.
As a young teen I had 150 hours on my original save, my friend who was more of a completionist has 300 hours on his.
Why won't Square Enix make another FFT game?
>Why won't Square Enix make another FFT game?
Its father hasn't worked at Square for over a decade
Because Final Fantasy Tactics S was shit.
Except postgame was fully fleshed out and you'd occasionally fucked even with that gear
I never understood why people said go for calculator when I solved every problem in the game with Double Fisted Monks and Excaliburs.
That's the port's fault. PSP emulation itself is great.
347 hours but 100%ed that fucker. Still remember being salty as fuck because one of the last Missions needed a Broken Sword and you only get them kinda common until you finish the second crystal
>TFW Playing FFTA And my healer is somehow the most powerful caster on the team
Nu Mou have bullshit magic stat scaling. The game heaved and shattered when I made it an alchemist.
Fft 1.3 is one of the most fair and rewarding gaming experiences I have played. It is brutal but fair. Losing 30+ times to an early fight isn't uncommon but when you win it feels amazing.
FFT is easier than the first 5, really.
Not really. The Chapter 2-3 fights are great and let you go at the game with open-ended party compositions, but chapter 1 and 4 make me want to bash my head into a wall because of how fucking restrictive they are.
The story in Persona 4 sucks though, the killer is incredibly easy to predict anyway.
Gee, could it possibly be the one guy who plays no big role in the story but is constantly shown for no reason interacting with some of the main characters? I wonder...
V can be piss easy with proper job abuse. Hell people do challenge runs yearly just to limit their job usage.
No. The dialogue is better than the ye olde shit. Skip the dub voices. Delita sounds like a faggot in a theater play. Plus some of the best lines are in the PS1 version.
Animals have no God!
This is your ally for the night. Say something nice to him before he betrays you.
I'm the opposite. OG Tactics feels fine but Tactics Advance feels sluggish as hell.
Whatever you do, Don't give that bitch the knife.
>Animals have no God!
I was so fucking pissed when I realized they removed that line. It was a small window into the dark depths of the character of Algus. In WotL he just comes off as a pompous asshole.
Of course it's worth the struggle. FFT was the highest form of art jn a FF and there hasn't been another one like it since. Also check out Tactics Ogre, truly the finest choice in an SRPG.
>a kid who wants to fuck over his little brother while passing on every kids dream
The book was literally killing them.
>9
>Not 5
Come the fuck on.
Which is still more effort than breaking FFT takes. It's really, really fucked up.
Yeah I follow you
>Lets make attack damage Weapon Damage Times Strength
>What do we do for monks?
>Just make them Strength times Strength
>FAIR AND BALANCED
>it's in a game with level scaling, so it's easy to accidentally fuck yourself if you don't understand how that works.
Don't levels only scale in random battles? Story battles are pre-set, aren't they?
>FFXII effectively ruined his career
Delita did nothing wrong
You think the War of the Lions could work as series on HBO?
I mean I know they have GoT already, but hey two shows couldn't hurt.
FFTA/2 use 9's ability system, not 3/5's, you mong
An animated mini series to capitalize on the GoT hype would've been the best. Shame that ship is pretty much sailing.
You're correct, but good luck avoiding random battles while walking to the story battles. If you have a LV50 Ramza and everyone else is LV10, you're probably going to get fucked by the random battles.
How much did you freak the first time he decks you for half or more of your HP, and you realize you can either only heal or die from his strong damage?
>it's easy if you break it!
How about you play it as intended, m8, and then come back and say it's still easier than 5 of the easiest RPGs in existence.
I'm not saying it's super hard, but judging a game's difficulty based on your experience when using the cheapest strategies imaginable is just pain stupid.
That's why you make sure to level everyone in your main party.
wtf, they made a equal to tactics advance?
is it worth a playthrough?
You know what, but that shit on Netflix.
*put*
>How about you play it as intended,
Using the skill system is intended you inbred fucktard. A game isn't better off if you have to cripple yourself to play it 'properly'.
