Which one is better and why?
Which one is better and why?
Can't vote. I like n64 more but gamecube was honestly better.
They're both kind of mediocre but I'll give it to the GC because of the much better controller and the Capcom/Sega games.
>japanese consoles
>barely any jrpgs
Both are shit.
N64
...
...
Well N64 had about 10 amazing games and GCN had probably 40
Wii
JRPGs are trash though
JRPGs are shit, not having them is a selling point in my eyes
christ, the fact that people here prefer either of these consoles over the super nintendo is something i will never understand
out of honest curiosity, do you happen to have a similar image for the SNES? Or maybe one in this style?
that pic you posted is from Sup Forums recommended games, they have a picture like that for every system.
GC because it has more good games
64 had a bunch of amazing Rareware games
Cube had Starfox Adventures
64 had 2 amazing zelda
cube had 2 mediocre zeldas
64 had the best game of all time, Mario 64
cube had sunshine
the only advantage cube has is melee and metroid.
>N64
>+ lots of games came that still be acclaimed to this day
>+ golden era of Rare
>+ 80% of its catalogue is either goaty or hidden gems
>+ great shooters
>+ great PC ports
>+ Best Zelda
>- not many RPGs
>- shit joystick
>GC
>+ some good games
>+ RE & remakes
>- Rare is kill
>- shit uguu animu kawaii Zelda
>- no FPS
This is an obvious choice
People only like N64 for nostalgia. Playing Goldeneye at 20 fps isn't as fun as people remember
All shit and shovelware.
All of the ps2's best games were available on better hardware and PC. The rest was shit nobody cared about.
Direct comparison, GameCube.
Comparing the two in the context of their time, N64.
>64
-comfy as fuck
-created most standards that are still in gaming to this day
-no load times
>gamecube
-short load times
-most games run at 60fps while the other consoles stutter like retards
I like the gamecube
You forgot F-Zero, lad
PC port was ported from the PS2 one, it's shit
the GC version is the best
This. If not for emulation and smoothing of graphics, N64's visuals alone would put it way behind just because of how things have developed since.
Both F-Zero X and GX are amazing to this day
I like X better since if you play it on an everdrive you can mod the japanese version with a level editor
gamecube had a controller years ahead of its time and sitll comfy even today. Just add a second z button on the left and a clickable c-stick and you've got an xbone controller competitor
No, current PC version came from the Xbox 360 version which came from the GC/Wii versions.
The face buttons were shit though
N64 visuals destroyed the visuals of the other consoles on a CRT. It doesn't need emulation to be the best graphically.
PS and Saturn had "affine texture mapping," which looks like shit, the N64 had superior texture mapping and it even had anti-aliasing.
>Rush 2049 and Road Rash 64 not on there
>extreme G and Quest 64 are
Fuck off back to legoland you CUNT
the handles feel amazing, it's like giving the controller a handshake or something
the L and R are really deep too, like sinking your fingers in the sand
also Fire Emblem.
also Wario.
also Pikmin.
also the Capcom games.
also Custom Robo and Animal Crossing (unless you're jap)
also some Dreamcast ports.
also all the great multiplats.
also the better Mariokart.
But hey, Quest 64, amirite?
While I only like a few games on Gamecube, I don't like any on N64
I still play mine every so often on my CRT, so I'm not talking about stretching. Just that the design of a lot of GC games in comparison will always feel timeless due to the jump in quality.
It being better than the others at the time doesn't necessarily mean it's amazing, just that the competition is trash-tier now. At least it's not the PS1.
...
Loved the N64 game library. Disliked the controller , or at least the joystick. The games usually ran like ass, and the fact that it was composite and S-Video doesn't help.
GC had better hardware, to the point where it was reused the next generation. Much better controller. Didn't like the game library as much though.
stole this from /vr/
Oh, and my first console was a Gameboy Pocket. got an SNES too, the N64 a few months after it came out, and the Gamecube 3 years after it came out.
it's not nostalgia, it's any decent game on the N64 has a better version on Gamecube
I'll give you Banjo Tooie is good, and OoT/MM are less insufferable than WW/TP
...
where's the both are not as good as previous consoles option?
gamecube by far, i think the n64 is REALLY overrated. i even prefer the saturn over it.
I wish it showed how the PS1 would glitch the fuck out of the textures when moving them around, while the N64 kept them perspective-correct at all times.
SNES > NES > N64 > Cube > shit > the rest
N64 controller was terrible and most of the good N64 games were re-released in some format. Hell, even Doom 64, which isn't good to start with, got a couple of PC ports by fans.
>saturn textures being higher resolution than the other two
>saturn 3D game having a framerate about 20
I never understand hipsters on this website who blow that console, its alright but the other two are way better.
I don't agree with the memesters that think it's better than Doom 1 or 2 but Doom 64 is still pretty good.
Also if you want to talk about re-releases Gamecube had arguably more games re-released and they were re-released fast enough to be on competing consoles of the same gen. Also, a good chunk of the games worth playing on Gamecube to begin with were DC ports.
I still think the GC is better but I don't agree with that argument.
if you look closely the saturns version isnt even a triangle.
Heh that's a good nod to how its hardware works.
Who let in r/gaming?
>quadrilaterals
what were they thinking
it's good.
i like both
i think N64 had better exclusives but GC had better library overall (metroid prime and f-zero GX are big heavy hitters for me, as is twilight princess, which is basically OoT but better in every way. I like MM more and F-Zero X more though.)
but GC has ikaruga and N64 doesnt so there. it also was a good multiplat machine (ssx tricky, freekstyle, def jam, bloodray roar primal fury, baldurs gate dark alliance, etc.
I also had robotech battlecry for it, and a bunch of other gaames, including the worst version of soul calibur 2.
but whate4ver, i like both consoles
Both
>sega releases daytona usa, a 60 fps 3D racing game in fucking 1993
>is widely praised and makes a shit ton of $$$$
>hurr durr lets make the console a 2d powerhouse 3d gaming isnt the future
they werent thinking at all
I need to uh.. go see what my girlfriend is up to
With how few polygons they could render they could make better looking stuff with quads than triangles (their reasoning, not mine). Probably because Virtua Fighter and Virtua Racing were such big hits.
>lets make the console a 2d powerhouse
It was the right decision because 3D is a cancerous blight upon gaming.
>it also was a good multiplat machine
people forget this. the gamecube was the last/only Nintendo console to have good multiplat support, and that counts for a lot imo. It's not like we're comparing GCN against PS2, when the multiplats cancel out and it's exclusive against exclusive.
explain.
it sort of does feel like that
I loved and owned both as a kid, but GC > N64. Better, more varied library. Better controller. 6th gen games are generally less clunky than 5th gen games.
saturn used quads for 3D
apparently this is great for 2D games
it also had a multiple thread CPU but only the japanese understood how that shit wokred, so in japan the saturn had the most glorious 2D shit
the japanese see the PS1 as casual normie stuff and the Saturn as the king of that generation
Sega's arcade technology was absolutely apeshit in terms of how far ahead it was from everything else.
It still boggles my mind how something like Virtua Fighter 3 was able to be released in 1996.
>Resident Evil 0
>Not REmake
Actually disgusting.
>All those babies who got a GC as their first console
>all those babies who didn't have a SNES and a N64 before
This is why Nintendo sucks today
SNES > Gamecube >N64
Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
Gamecube because it has a WAY better controller and i like it more because i had one
The only reason 3/4 of you could possibly think GG > N64 is because GG is the system you grew up with.
My first console was a SNES, try again
N64>SNES>GC
i never had a game gear
You can say the same thing for the n64. It's almost like the only reason people think either console was anything more than mediocre was because they grew up with them
GC had a better library and controller
But Op didn't include SNES in the parameters of his inquiry. Don't be a presumptuous retard. There isn't a person alive doesn't know in their heart that SNES was the GOAT.
N64 IS BETTER THAN PS1 GET OVER IT FAGGOT.
see
people like this exist.
How good is Skies of Arcadia, also wasn't that originally a Dreamcast game?
lol you wish kid
>he never experienced the leap to a whole new dimension between generations
>he never experienced a revolution in graphics and gameplay
>he never experienced another new way to play without gimmicks
I pity you
PS1 IS A FUCKING SHOVELWARE MACHINE FULL OF CRINGE FRIENDSHIP POWER RPGS.
wtf i hate ps1 now!
The only two video game consoles I have ever been actually excited to own.
