Never played this once it's had the opposite effect of being hyped up and instead was hyped down so much that Im so sure I'll be disappointed I don't even want to attempt playing it.

funny how I remember FFVIII being talked about more as a kid than VII

for me it was 7 and then war craft then 11. Not a lot of people talked about 8 as much or 9, though 9 being superior to 8.

Best soundtrack of Nobuo Uematsu's entire career and some of the best art direction in the series, wasted on some of the worst characters, narrative and battle systems in the series.
I only come back to the soundtrack.

I disagree with the art direction and can't say on sound tracks but the rest I can agree.

Idk, i just don't like the feel/atmosphere of the game, the world map soundtrack is particularly depressing.

I think that's the reason people like it so much, every person I talked to who like 8 suffered from depression when they played or still have it.

the more I think about it, I see why people like this game, though I still hate it. It has a depressing feel, Like squall the music mostly everything. When positive reinforcement comes along its viewed as an annoyance. This is why I enjoy 9 better, more positive atmosphere even in the face of depressing issues.

8 and 9 are the ones I keep replaying through every year even though they are not my favorite FF games, something about these two just pulls me back everytime.

8 is always fun to replay since it's so open to being broken, along with a stellar OST which is par for the course when it comes to FF games, comfy as hell Garden and locations in general, great card game and decent story for most during disc 1, and I honestly still like it past that as well.

9 cranks up the comfiness to 11 and even better OST and great characters.
