>Faulty desyncing joy-cons >Overpriced peripherals >No worthwhile exclusives at launch >32gb onboard storage in 2017 >no bluetooth >Bad battery life >VC not active at launch >Paid online >No media or internet features on a tablet
But what did it do right?
Ryder Watson
It sold.

They are finally making a new Mario I guess. You forgot a bunch of stuff like needing an app for voice chat for example.

Simplicity. This is the first console since the GameCube that I feel like I'm truly buying a gaming console instead of an over priced home media device. People complain about no browser but if it means making the operating system lighter, I'd rather leave the bells and whistles behind.
Unfortunately they completely go against this with the motion control joycons, a gimmick that nobody on the planet wanted or needed. Can't win em all, I suppose

Remains to be seen.

I think I feel the same way. I've always thought that consoles are typically just PC-lite devices now. Not trying to start shit here, but I already have a high end computer so it feels like a waste to buy consoles.
I typically still buy handhelds and Nintendo's consoles because they actually feel like a different experience, rather than an easier to get into PC.

>First, let's count the things it did wrong: Seems like an unfair assessment when you don't actually own it or have tried one for an extended period of time.
You can't just base your entire argument off just what a bunch of reviewers are saying; your opinion is just that - something you believe to be right through personal experiences.
That said though, you'd be a moron to jump into a newly released console without waiting a year or two for the library to expand and for the company to address major issues / release a new version. The biggest factor that makes or breaks a console is how much fun the games released on it are, bells and whistles are just a bonus we've gotten over the past decade.
>tl;dr Don't be a retard and be the first person to buy something. Wait that shit out.
Lucas Perez
>People complain about no browser Literally only shitposters complain about that. They can't decide whether it should or shouldn't be a "tablet." Anyone evaluating it rationally will instantly see that if they gave it a web browser no one would use it because the device is not in any way meant to replace or serve the same function as a smartphone or tablet.

Assuming the bad is no different than making a thread asking people to assume the good

That's really a false dichotomy. If anything, the real issue is that nintendo keeps pursuing bullshit gimmicks instead of just making a solid beefy gaming machine. All they needed to do was make a no-frills no-bullshit console with good hardware under the hood for 2017 standards, and it'd sell well. As it is now, people buy nintendo consoles IN SPITE OF THE CONSOLES THEMSELVES because they want the first party games. People actively have to put up with the bullshit just to play zelda and mario. Why does it have to be this way? Why not make a regular good console and still have the first party stuff and be everything that people want from it?
Nintendo is still just too stuck in the Wii mindset. They think if they keep trying various gimmicks, they'll eventually strike gold with some new demographic, like what they did with the Wii. But it'd make so much more sense for them to just make a standard device that people actually want. Better to get steady moderately high sales than fail a bunch of attempts just for the off chance that one time you get lucky and it becomes a short fad.
Noah Russell
My biggest problem with it is, is I still feel Nintendo gimmicks creeping up on me. I had the same feeling about Wii/Wii U, in which, I don't see the appeal in making another very obtuse controller, or screen for it.
Easton Smith
Nintendo is like the special snowflake in competitive multiplayer games who always picks the objectively least viable character/team/weapon/whatever. That way when he fucks up, he can always hide his lack of skill by saying "you only won because you used high-tier!"
Nintendo, for some reason, thinks they couldn't possibly "compete" by just making a regular fucking console. They think they need to prove a point by only making gimmicky consoles that nobody asked for. I'm not sure why, is it because it allows them to hide behind gimmicks as reasons for shortcomings? I don't know.

>>Paid online When are the mustards going to stop complaining about this?
Colton Bailey
Thing is about the Switch is despite how people feel about the Joycons and how they are still pushing it like the the Wii, they aren't forced on you.
You don't need to use the joycons separately from the controller or tablet, motion controls don't exist in all of their games aside from games designed from it and you can use however you want as a handheld or a home console.
For fuck sakes, Arms, a game that has motion controls and have a traditional option that people can use and stuck with it
The best thing I like about it is that they aren't forcing you to play in some weird fucked up way ala Star Fox Zero and you can use it however you like.

Great games Portable hybrid Expandable Great battery life

We're talking about the Switch bro.
Joseph Wood
They try soooo hard to push the gimmick side though that normal functionality isn't really out and about. One of my biggest gripes with the Wii U, was the fact if I wanted to use certain applications, I had to have the game pad, and if I didn't charge my game pad regularly or the off chance that I forgot it, then I have to wait for it to charge, just to have it's battery life melted away.
Only time can tell though, I just hope they can pull off a solid online and come through with a good line up.
Charles Wright
Thing is, they actually can't.
PlayStation owns the whole fucking console market by 3:1, most devs are barely making Xbone versions of games and it's only because it barely catches up with it and they still lose out on games. No Nier, no Nioh, no Yakuza, all the fighting games that aren't from western developers are on PS4 and good luck getting weebshit on there.
Nintendo making another box ain't gonna save them because they would still get crushed because power means shit when developers rarely like to work with Nintendo.
GameCube would have told you that, it's more powerful than the PS2 but devs didn't give a duck and still went with the PS2 because it's was easier and better to work with for them. They'll still miss out on every big game and there's no need for a third box in the world where people will see the console and say "I already have a PS4 so whas the point"
Switch exist as it is because it's not a primary system but a secondary system. As a system you buy when you already have a PS4/Xbox One or PC because it will have very little crossover
William Cox
>But what did it do right? money. tons of money
Landon Hughes
The thing is that the gimmick is the how do you want to play it?
Outside of shit like 1-2 Switch which no one gives a Damn about, you don't have to treat it as some weird amalgamation of a game system. Every ad I've seen of it just either shows it playing Zelda on the TV or as the handheld.
Luke Taylor
the "secondary system" thing is a post-hoc rationalization people make as an excuse why it's totally not a problem that it doesn't have comparable processing power and can't receive multiplat games.
It's like someone at a clothing store trying to sell you a ripped-up coffee-stained shirt by saying "well, this isn't SUPPOSED to be the clothes you wear outside! It's only meant to be worn at home anyway as backup clothing!"
There are people who would like to play nintendo games, but can't justify buying a second console. There are people who would buy one if it were a competitive console that also received most of the standard multiplat games of the generation. But by continuing to justify their own shitty policies as "well, it's only meant for our own games anyway!" they relegate themselves to only attracting a small niche of diehard supporters. And then they wonder why their sales tank.
