In the same spirit as the Hueg thread, let's have a comfy PS2 thread.
What are you playing, is your console modded or vanilla? What's your favourite game in the monstrosity of a library?

>GranTurismo 4
>vanilla (PS2 SuperSlim)
>favorite gaem: Okami
Vanilla slim. Favorite game is a toss up between Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts 2
Playing this, my mind is full of fuck.
I've had the same Slim since it came out, and I have a card with freemcboot. I also use it to play a lot of PS1 games.
Right now I'm playing Katamari Damacy for the first time, this is great.
At this point, I have a regular fatty and a slim with the flip-top mod.
No clue about my favorite game, but the last time I played the system a few months ago, it was Gradius V and that remake of PC Genjin.
I dug out my ps2 to finally go through the games I never got around to initially, like Steambot Chronicles, Dark Cloud 2, and Romancing Saga. Ended up just going back to my FFXII save file.
>Steambot Chronicles
This is my favorite game for the PS2.
How many games can you finish on a PS2, before the disc drive burns out?
And how much percent of the entire catalog is that?
I really need to play and finish maximo, siren 2, and socom 2 already. These games have been on my backlog for far too long now.
Been meaning to replay SH3 and 4
Any recs?
I wanna recommend Sword of Etheria, if you like Castlevania check it out
Late fat model (50k I think). It started going on the fritz year about 10 years ago when I first got God of War 2 for it, haven't used it for much since then. I've got a bunch of games for it that I've never played and I've been meaning to get a freemcboot card for it.
If it keeps working, next games I want to try are Persona 3/4
Check out Shadow Tower Abyss, it's my favourite FROM game and has lots of weird monsters and settings.
My system isn't modded and my favorite game is Budokai 3. My memory card crapped out on me and everything got corrupted so I lost all my data. Been playing the game again hardcore and have 99% capsules unlocked. Fuck I love this game so much
Thanks
Best FROM game is Tenchu though
Manhunt 2 with the Gameshark back naturally.
Sly 2 all day every fucking day. I just started Ace Combat 4 after all these years of owning it since it was technically my brother's game.
Have a vanilla ps2 super slim. Currently playing Persona 4, favorite game is GTA San Andreas
Does using burnt DVD-Rs damage the PS2 laser? If so, how long will it last before wearing out?
>Digital Devil Saga 1
>modded fat with HDD
>Yakuza 2
I have too many games to play thanks to piracy.
Modded PS2's are the best.
I hope you're joking. Tenchu went to shit when Fromsoft bought the IP.
I have an original PS2 with FMCB and Open PS2 Loader. I am kind of thinking of getting a PS2 slim because I like top loaders.
aka 8/10 games central
>implying there's a 10/10 game from sixth gen
wew
Wrath of heaven is probably the best Tenchu game
I have a fat PS2 with a hard drive. Can I mod it? What does modding it do,get you free games? Is it simple enough?
Yep, mine had Matrix chip and It let me play fucking everything no problem. Sadly, my PS2 died months ago. RIP
I bought a fat ps2 on ebay for $16 with a broken dvdrom. Modded it and installed a hard drive. Have a bunch of games on there that I want to play again like Silent Hill 2, and some new ones I want to play that I never got to like Red Dead Revolver.
>Can I mod it?
Yes
>What does modding it do,get you free games?
Free games, don't have to burn up that laser, memory card saving on HDD, region free.
>Is it simple enough
Yeah, here's what you need.

I highly recommend downloading the newest build of OPL. (the thing you'll be using to play games)
I'll look into it. Thanks!
I've got FreeMCBoot on a memory card, but my cousin's PS2 just broke so I gave him mine and some games to play.
I never had a console growing up.
>Playing
Nocturne
>Modded or Vanilla
Vanilla (PS2 Fat)
>Favorite game
God Hand
How do we make gaming as good as the 6th gen again?
It's rather simple really. Devs sacrifice graphics for performance, polish and mechanics.
>playing
Drakengard
>modded or vanilla?
Vanilla
>Favourite?
Kessen2
bump
I have a slim PS2, but it's defective in some way. Relatively soon after purchase the machine that moves the laser decided to become all cranky and sometimes it falls behind, causing occasional lag and a weird multiplying sound effects glitch in BG&E. Have to get it fixed someday. Laser itself works perfectly though.
Bought a second PS2, phat 50001. Works perfectly, quietly, laser assembly is buttery smooth. The disk tray is a little wonky, moves a little too much and requires occasional assistance to close. but otherwise perfectly functional. THIS is the console I wish to mod, but don't know where the magic tech man lives.
Last game I played was Ratchet & Clank 1.
>Playing
Ratchet and Clank 1.
>Modded or vanilla
Softmodded, fat and slim.
>Favorite vidya
Toss up between Shinobido and God Hand.
Question. Where does one get a 1080p flat TV that supports PAL/50hz, deinterlaces well, upscales quite well, and has good colours?
I want to play PAL games on an actual TV without emulation.
Well, guess I just helped myself. I found a recent LED Sony teevee that supports all frame rates, both i and p, and has component holes.
Modded HDboot.
Bloody roar and tekken tag see the most use since I can play a round or two and go about my morning.
Have a fuckhuge ps2 somewhere.
Really want to play some Sly Cooper 2 again.
youtube.com
Hell yeah, I actually just got my copy in the mail today
Seems like a fun game, and the animations are smooth as fuck
>Seems like a fun game, and the animations are smooth as fuck
One is correct, the other is not. The animations were intentionally done to resemble poses, with strong poses, and very quick transitions between them.
I gotta help my mom clean up the garage of recycables eventually and find that thing.
Have a slim ps2 in the house but it's missing the TV cord, and I may've misplaced the power cord.
About to start Rogue Galaxy, is it as good as I've heard?
Find it out FOR YOURSELF, like a TRUE GAYMER, from BEFORE THE INTERNET!
>Just finished the Ace Combat games and thinking what should I play next.
>Fat one, FMCB with network adapter, HDD, component cables, and two wireless (3rd party) Dualshock 2
>Favourite game maybe Ratchet And Clank
Tell me, is pic related worth it.
probably has input lag up the ass
It sends 480i to your TV via HDMI. Most TVs do not recognize that.
Just get official Sony PS3/PS2 component. If your TV is shit and only has HDMI, get a component>HDMI upscaler. Get a good one, to make sure lag is unnoticeable.
Vanilla slim
Currently playing Jak and Daxter, it's my first time too.
I'd say Katamari is my favorite, but I've yet to even play some of the PS2s more popular and widely praised games.
Word of advice: skip the racing game and the second psp title.
Oh and have fun with the glitches in Jak 3
My hate me for this, I played Jak 3 a long time ago when I first got my PS2 because I was weird.
I didn't like it, but I did beat it.
I just started playing Ace Combat Zero a little earlier.
I can't really pick an overall favorite, but DMC is probably the game that made the biggest impact on me.
I think the first two are superior, but Wrath of Heaven isn't bad.
I didn't care for it. The beginning shows a lot of potential, and the rest of the game is spent squandering that potential.
I'm not much of a fan of Level-5 in general, though. I think Dark Cloud 2 is the only game they've developed that I enjoyed.
Playing God Hand
Had a fat but now I have the second slim revision after selling the fat and having huge regrets
Too many favourites to name but I say one obvious one being God Hand, which I'm doing a replay of now
>skip the racing game
You have the shittest of taste. If you made sure to have the GH version, there are no problems.
>have fun with the glitches in Jak 3
I have GH release of that as well, 0 glitches.
>Sonyggers have so little games they have to go back two generations
Ignoring my bait meme arrow to get you to read this, what does everyone think of the Ape Escape series?
Ps2 was a great system and all but people who had it as their first system should probably leave Sup Forums and the industry as a whole since they're part of the crowd that ruined it.
PAL releases >> NTSC releases, cause better VA and better translation.
>implying there's a 10/10 game that isn't a payed for review
fify
>just finished Persona 4
>slim vanilla (but i also have an "aqua" metalic blue fat PS2)
>i cant tell you why, but Tekken 4 holds a special place in muh heart.
