>155 million sold >xbox had 23mill+ >gamecube had 21 million
What exactly made the PS2 so successful? was it due to a lot of franchises like god of war getting their start? was it the DVD player? why did it blow the other consoles out of the water so hard?
Easily pirateable games. Mass appeal to third world countries. Now get out.
Jayden Watson
cheapest DVD player on the market at the time. Also satisfies the children.
Andrew Morales
>cheapest DVD player on the market at the time. >2001 >DVD player $99 >PS2 $299
Ian Stewart
>Easily pirateable games. That was the Dreamcast. >Mass appeal to third world countries Sega Mega Drive/Master System.
Zachary Mitchell
Probably because it was the second one.
PS1 had 100 million to N64's 30mil and Saturn's 10mil. People liked the first one, why wouldn't they like the second one?
Elijah Cooper
>DVD player $99 >2001
This is a meme
Ayden Adams
>What exactly made the PS2 so successful? 99 % PSX compatibility. Nobody had to give up their library.
Liam Thomas
>This is a meme I bought one. Had to decide between PS2 and DVD player and got the DVD player instead.
Isaac Campbell
>dvd player >killer app after killer app >cheapest console on the market >many regions of the world were still anti-microsoft and loyal to sony after the PS1 days
Jackson White
only dumb spoiled kids owned an xbox
Gavin Reed
Sounds like somebody is jealous
Jack Cooper
seriously I only met 1 guy who had an xbox and was always going on how saints row was superior to gta sa
The real question is what is your favorite PS2 game?
John Perry
It was the cheapest GOOD dvd player at the time.
There were cheaper DVD players but anything less and you're getting into composite out only chink shit. Most Bestbuys and other electronic stores didn't even carry them.
Games were pretty meh otherwise. PS1 was better.
Liam Green
dmc3
Noah Martin
San andreas
Robert Moore
That sounds like he had an incorrect opinion
Jackson Lee
I remember the DVD player was a pretty major selling point, at least in the first few years.
You're telling me I get a DVD player and a next-gen console, all in one conveniently priced unit? That was a pretty serious bargain in 2000. Remember, most PCs at the time couldn't read DVDs.
Grayson Hall
Siren 2
Noah Hill
It had games and BC with PS1 and piracy to boot, basically you had games for years
Parker Hall
It was the DVD player.
Asher Williams
Saints Row was on 360.
Easton Murphy
>It was the cheapest GOOD dvd player at the time. PS2 wasn't even a GOOD DVD player, it didn't even come with a proper remote. >There were cheaper DVD players but anything less and you're getting into composite out only chink shit. My 99 bucks player featuring SCART RGB and playing literally everything from MP3s to VCDs, CDs with pirated DivX-AVIs on them and of course all DVD region-free, while completely ignoring fast-forward locks and other bullshit. So-called "good" DVD players, which still did never cost more than a PS2 had much less features. In fact the PS2 was the DVD player with fewest features and only played PAL DVDs.
Nicholas Long
Cheapest DVD player. The $99 DVD player got mentioned but that came out later (I bought that too and still own it)
Colton Fisher
see he already had the 360 when every other poor kid got his ps2 in 2006
Colton Turner
>I remember the DVD player was a pretty major selling point, at least in the first few years. For children.
David Lee
The PS2 was a pretty decent for DVDs in 2000, champ. >SCART shit Opinion invalided euro. This is the discussion of 1st world electronics.
Caleb Edwards
>The PS2 was a pretty decent for DVDs in 2000, champ. It wasn't out in 2000. >SCART shit SCART RGB is superior to any RCA shit.
Ryder Cruz
persona 3
Joseph Watson
>want to play ps2 games >need; >ps2 >freemcboot >network adapter >ide hdd >usb to ide >composite to HDMI converter or an old tv
No fuck you, any alternative you might suggest sucks. PS2 was a mistake.
Brandon Rivera
>It wasn't out in 2000. What did he mean by this?
Evan Thompson
>It wasn't out in 2000. JP: March 4, 2000 NA: October 26, 2000 EU: November 24, 2000 AU: November 30, 2000
Thomas Myers
Dvd player Backwards compatible Easy to pirate Excellent lineup of games Reasonably priced
Lucas Perry
Metal Gear Solid 3.
Julian Cooper
>ps2 no shit >freemcboot oh no you have to burn a DVD and play agent under fire for half an hour abloobloobloo >network adapter they're dirt cheap >ide hdd raid some old desktops >usb to ide this would cost the most of the setup but it's still not devastatingly expensive, like 30 bucks tops >composite to HDMI converter or an old tv what garbage HDTV do you use that doesn't have ypbpr component in?
