Which do you guys prefer?

A weapon with infinite ammo with overheat/cooldown

or a limited ammo weapon with reloads?

latter.

survival fps = limited ammo
action fps = cooldown

reloads

reloads are always satisfying, if they have unlimited ammo that's cool too. But finding ammo is a fun little minigame in itself.
Infinite ammo coolodowns suck because you're just waiting. reloads feel like something you're doing.

it's weird how close they are but reloads just feel better. You can make and work with so much more with reloads.

Limited ammo w/reloads but your backup gun is infinite with reloads and is still effective.

Name a better setup? Protip: You maybe can

Why can't I just have unlimited ammo without having to do some bullshit waiting?

I would much prefer a game with infinite ammo but reloading a finite magazine capacity than games with finite ammo but no reloading.

It's one of the few things I dislike about D44M and Transformers Devastation

Finite ammo supply is sort of like weapon durability; it can theoretically be positive, but it almost never is.

Because then you'd just damage-hose all over the place like a dipshit and there would be essentially no point in trying to aim.

I enjoy ammo packs.

Theres just something enjoyable about finding those little grey ammo packs in tf2 and just topping off your pool. makes the game feel a lot more alive and thought out.

it's actually insane how many of those things are littered around the older maps. badlands has them everywhere.

D44m would have been better with bigger ammo pools but guns that shoot even faster.

just so you can rain yourself in ammo when you chain saw someone.

Would you rather have unlimited poisoned bullets or a gun that turns every bullet poisonous?

Depends on the game. Rule of thumb for me is that if you're locked into a class or only a couple of weapons, then infinite ammo with reloads/cooldown isn't as much of an issue. If you're playing a real arena shooter that allows you to carry 9+ different guns or a survival game, then limited ammo is definitely much better.

I think the problem people have with it is that so far, the only prolific use of infinite ammo guns in a multiplayer shooter is Overwatch, and that's just opening a big ass can of autistic bickering from both sides. Probably the best example of it being executed well is in Titanfall 2, where the gameplay almost always has you engaged, so you don't think about ammo except within the context of your magazine.

Both but with a fuckhuge magazine. Like fuckhuge enough the supportive fire doesnt stop until literally everything is swiss cheese and my hands are burning.

What about a weapon that has infinite ammo, but the cooldown is reloading it?

Particularly in sci-fi games, I enjoy seeing the creativity of the developers in engineering their guns and sometimes, a reload can be really satisfying. I have yet to find a weapon that has a satisfying reaction to "overheating" that didn't leave me feeling like a retard with a useless gun in my hand.

gun that turns every bullet poisonseous.
just so you feel like you have the option or the tool for the job. bullets themselves don't feel as special.

that's basically the guns in mass effect, or halo iirc

a weapon with infinite ammo that reloads

Depends on implementation.

I can think of many games that has Poison Arrows, but actually using them is a pain because swapping item slots is a gigantic obstacle.
And a few where you have "special ammo" buttons, where you either forget them, or you want to ration them, or they have no effect, so you keep on spamming the button to keep the ammo type.

You mean you haven't played HALO?
What makes reloading satisfying is a combination of animation and sound effect.
HALO doesn't even try too hard to do that.
But that Plasma ball oversizing looks great.

this.
rationing ruins special items.
and it's not even the players fault, they need to have the idea that the items are infinite put in their head.

>Infinite ammo gun is just a back up incase your regular guns fail
Absolute horse shit
>infinite ammo gun is actually has ammo but it just recharges slowly
More bullshit
>infinite ammo gun can shoot all day as long as you fire in pulses or otherwise time your shots
Getting there
>Infinite ammo gun is specific to beam weapons where you hold the trigger down and keep the cross hair focused on a target.
Now we're fucking talking

Halo is one that I am referencing, and at the time of typing it, I was also thinking of the guns in Titanfall 2

>infinite weapon
>has an active reload that if you vent it right when it's about to over heat it cools off instantly

active reloads need to be in everything, like sprinting in ffxv

There is one where you... change airfilter? Or the one where you change airfilter AND bullet storage?
It looks extremely anticlimatic, but there is no sound of pressure breach either or anything to contrast it
