Can't wait for this board to place maximum overshill in defense mode once Automata comes out swinging with a solid 73%
Now that Atomato is out in Japan, how is it?
Since when did the Yoko Taro audience ever expect his games to get reviewed well?
Why would we care?
>MUH QUIRKY GAMES FOR INTELLIGENT PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF
Fuck off hipster.
Boring piece of shit with lame bosses. Its a glorified shmup with hacking.
>glorified shmup
Hell yes, I am way more excited than I was before this post.
Because you fucks should head over to /vg/ and rot there. Your kind isnt welcome in Sup Forums.
...
Nah, just kidding. The gameplay is fucking broken. I'd kill for a remaster with a stable frame rate and better level design, though.
>Since when did the Yoko Taro audience ever expect his games to get reviewed well?
When Platinum game's in the game
>Why would we care?
You guys desperately want your Almighty God Taro to be accept by the masses for many years now.
That's a bad game though, some interesting elements in the plot don't change this.
Ikaruga was the best 6th gen game
>glorified shmup
explain further, that sounds better than the usual Platinum game
>Yoko Taro audience
You're a funny guy. Most people in Automata threads are secondaries, Platinumtards, horny idiots because the MC is hot and the usual shitposters that don't care about the game at all looking for a chance to ride on that TORtanic meme once again.
>You guys desperately want your Almighty God Taro to be accept by the masses for many years now.
Not the guy you're talking to, but no. I just want Taro to have access to a decent development studio and a budget above more than a handful of tic tacs. As long as he keeps making games, then I'm happy.
>You guys desperately want your Almighty God Taro to be accept by the masses for many years now.
So you've never been in a DoD thread before? Why would I want retards like you shitting up some of what used to be the best threads on Sup Forums?
I wanted to get Nier but then someone told me it was based on Drakengard so I wanted to get those first...but then another person told me that the localizations for both Drakengard and Nier sucked and it wasn't worth playing them if I didn't read moonrunes
so now I'm probably just going buy a bunch of malt liquor instead
Never ever understand.
the game is awful, literally unplayable.
How is it unplayable?
Woah, ahead of schedule I see
...
i got nier replicant, should i play it even if i already finished gestalt?
Yessss, it was such a peaceful hugbox thread.
Aside from the protagonist, there's literally no difference.
>to be accept by the masses
Find me one person that has wished for this.
Just one.
>Unlocked the secret opening
>It's a fart joke
youtube.com
>I-t's all those Platinumtard and shit poster's work, it's those bad guy that ruined our thread.
Witness Tarofags, everyone.
(You)
That's because it's plays terribly.
One is a coming of age story and the other is the tale of an incompetent father.
Lost planet 2
>Lets review a 4 player co op game as a solo game
>Complain ai allies are useless
You're not missing anything if you skip Drakengard. In fact, if you just want to play Nier, then I would advise you to avoid Drakengard altogether. They're only tangentially related and really are two separate series. Also, Nier's localization is great. Who told you it was bad?
yo
Any Musou games
If I like Automata mainly for the story will I like Nier
>Who told you it was bad?
Uh...Sup Forums, as usual. Some user said that Replicant was the superior version.
lol
You've been rused, son.
that's basically all there is TO like.
But Replicant is the superior version but only slightly
Why?
It has the same problem as every SaGa game in the west
it doesn't explain itself well. Unlimited SaGa is by far the hardest to get into of the series, other Romancing SaGa 2.
Normies dont want to learn on their own through experimentation, like Kawazu wants the player too.
Damn. Is my mother going to die in her sleep now? I gotta find a cheap copy before the prices get too ridiculous.
the later endings make slightly more sense
Because the Replicant was written to make fun of the usual "big brother complex" type of stories we often see in jrpgs and so having Brother Nier makes more sense to the story. It also makes ending D more impactful.
Any Umihara Kawase game.
Best part is when people on Sup Forums laud games like Vagrant Story, Mario RPG's, Legend of Dragoon, and so on with their timed button presses and then complain about the reels when it is the exact same thing, a timed button press.
I wouldn't really say the reels are the same, I saw them as being meant to be more like rolling a d20 dice. Unlimited is the most like a tabletop board game of the series after all and I really like that about it.
They are timed button presses, and the reels do repeat. When you have the skill panels to get enough successes you can easily learn the pattern for that reel and get the success you want.
While the dice roll is what they were going for, it isn't just press the button and hopefully you get what you want, you do have a lot of control where you land on.
Maybe there is strategy you can learn but the reel doesnt always stop at the same after you press the button, sometimes it stops immediately, other times it continues for about 3 more panels; there really does seem to be some aspect of RNG to it. It's really weird and I can see why people would be turned off by it.
That's not even really my personal gripe with Unlimited; it's that you can hardly control what Panels you get at the end of a quest and sometimes, you just get fucking trash and you have to replace one of your current good panels with something you probably dont even want.
Zelda 2. It's literally anti casual, which is 99% of "gamers" nowadays.
Personally there were only a few times when I've missed the technique I wanted to land on and often times it was due to me mistiming the button press. I was frequently hitting my tier five techniques against Chaos.
Though the skill panels don't seem to have as much of a rhyme or reason, but I didn't bother looking up the best ways to put in skill panels or anything like that so I winged it and possibly made some weak characters but still managed to get through the game.
Funny considering how it's probably the closest the series has ever gotten to western RPG convention with its simplistic skill point allocation and implementation of magic that puts the rest of the series' attempts to shame. I mean, you can turn into a fairy and fly through keyholes in Zelda II, why the fuck has that function never come back?
Wait someone actually likes Unlimited Saga?
Fucking why?
...
It is enjoyable, never needed to grind (I really don't take magic) since you just need to complete an adventure to get a skill panel, and it has a bunch of field skills that you can use and I really dig that. JRPG's need more things you can do outside of combat that isn't just side mission stuff.
There's a valid reason that game is rated so low user.
If you've actually played the whole series you'd understand.
This one I don't understand. I mean yeah, people who only care about presentation will be off-put by the budget visuals but come on, who DOESN'T want to save the Earth from an alien invasion by blowing up FUCKING EVERYTHING in sight? EDF is just one of those "primal urge" games.
I liked 2025 more but 2017 is still great
I'm into potentially menial bullshit so I've got half a mind to pick it up. Should I just go for it or do I need to play some other game(s) in the series?
It's underrated af
It's a really great jrpg but it's just hard to learn because how unusual it is
>never needed to grind
That's kind of the beauty of SaGa games, they punish grinding and emphasize smart decisions and effecient tactics. It's a step above the usal JRPG fare where you can jsut grind and mash "Attack" until you win.
Personally, my favorite SaGa game is Minstrel song but if there was one thing I'd take from Unlimited and put it into Minstrel Song, it would be the field and town navigation. Walking through a 3d world does feel like a waste of time after playing Unlimited.
>It is enjoyable
No it isn't, not in the fucking slightest. That game is an unbearable slog of boredom.
It's a game where you put more effort into creating the game world in your mind than they ever did developing it. It was a low effort game shit out on the fucking PS2, this game had less effort put into it than most flash games. It was rightly criticized and buried by much better games.
The whole games' concepts are lost to time, not just the fairy because modern Nintendo cant throw a gimmick at it.
>It's a game where you put more effort into creating the game world in your mind than they ever did developing it.
>I have no creativity and really fucking hate roleplaying with my own agency
>god where are all the waifu's and pretty CG cutscenes?
>this isnt final fantasy.....
>Should I just go for it or do I need to play some other game(s) in the series?
I'd recommend emulating SaGa Frontier on the ps1
it's very good but it's also not too punishing
...
>pot calling the kettle black
Your game suck, deal with it, Tarofags.
>SaGa Frontier 1
2 is actually better for that, the story is easier to follow and the game explains itself much better than the first one.
The Yoko Taro Audience wouldn't care.
Because the eat up how "endearing"-ly autistic he is and suck his dick every chance they get for being a mediocre game dev who just does shit differently.
Its like Kojima fags but worse.
I havent played 2, myself, but I've heard that game can really fuck you over hard in the long run if you dont know what you're doing
When did I mischaracterized what you said to make it easier to rebut you? Do you even understand how this works?
>It was a low effort game shit out on the fucking PS2, this game had less effort put into it than most flash games. It was rightly criticized and buried by much better games.
You have no idea what you are talking about. you're just mad because you didnt get it
>emulating
I like wasting money on collecting physical copies, especially when it comes to JRPGs for PS1. But thanks, I'll give it a shot.
The game doesn't even play that bad.
Will Neir Automata be as fuckin dark and "everything ends terribly" as other Taro games?
Except DG2 but that was terrible.
Nah, it has an happy ending of sorts.
>You have no idea what you are talking about.
Considering I played the game when it came out and hated it I've got a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about when I said it's fucking shit.
>you're just mad because you didnt get it
What is there to get? The game is shallow as fuck, has no production value, and it leaves everything up to the player to do the work of an entire art team in their head to fill in the empty void of the game.
It'll all be flying babies and general weirdness.
how the fuck do I get into minstrel song? Bought it on PS2 a while ago and tried starting Grey's campaign and another and I just dunno where to go I guess.
Dont start with Grey's campaign, he is arguably the worst choice for a new character.
Someone like Albert, Jamil, or Claudia would be a much better choice,
You want to visit pubs in towns and talk to people. The Melvir Police station tells you of certain quest, sometimes you need to go to towns. You just gotta explore, really
Yea but use the English patch. Basically what's different is brother nier has issues with coming of age, wants to duck yonah/ditch yonah and suffers from feelings of extreme guilt. Kaine and nier also have romantic interactions. Changes some side quests but main story is mostly the same. Just expect to hate brother nier/feel sad for him in the first half. Kid literally fucks old men to help out yonah and resents her for it
