Why exactly did people hate this guy again? He has some of the tightest platforming around, his levels are comfy as fuck, and beating the snot out of gaia's minions is fun.
Replaying this game and

I always liked his design and levels to but you have to admit OP, it is quite a significant change going from day to night. I thought it was going to suck at first until I found out there was a level up system where you feel progression and unlock more combos as you go on.
Its not for everyone, but you're one of the 5 who likes him, so join the club pal. Make sure you play the DLC stages, they're all great
By the end, the only thing I really hated about night levels was how the battle music would override the level's music.
This is honestly the only real critical flaw, besides the unstable framerate.
Night level music is spectacular, but that battle music just destroys any chance to hear it.
Actually really easy to bypass the music problem
...
>Day stages are fun and adrenaline-pumping, but not a lot of platforming going on
>Night stages are all platforming, this doesn't really balance it out its just two extremes pitted against each other
>Werehog design is shit
>Poor attempt to capitalize on the stupid werewolf trend going on in the mid to late 2000's
>Combo system not nearly as weak as Rise of Lyric, but its still pretty shallow and repetitive
>Homing/Lock on is fucking infuriating, clock tower is a good example of this
>Chips a faggot
Its a pretty flawed game, but its alright I suppose. I like the Disney-esque world the game takes place in. Was one of the only times Sonic has blended in well with Humans, and I wish they'd return to this cartoony style and stick with it.
Musics great, level themes are great, day stages are fun
Other than that, its a meh game.
Actually id argue that distinctly separating them is smart since it gives total accuracy on what the player wants. Nothing worst than getting a 5 or 10 second burst of speed only to be thrown into the waiting game of waiting for platforms to slowly rotate and come to you
I also dare you to find another kids game with combat as varied and solid as sonics.
I liked the game. But I understand why others don't.
The platforming is that faux-platforming garbage, where everything is perfectly measured, so you can never miss a jump. Grabbing ledges are automatic, and can be done from a distance, which essentially gives you a giant buffer for recovering from a bad jump. Double jump, is another buffer for easy correction. When he climbs, he moves in perfectly measure intervals, so you always have perfect alignment. And a lot of parts literally require you to only hold a direction and press jump to advance. There's too much of a buffer to feel like you're making the jumps yourself. Rather, the game has everything plotted out for you, so you'd have to be a moron to fuck it up.
Battling has very little depth, and almost every situation is handled the exact same way. Find a combo you like, and spam it until the enemy is dead.
It's "comfy" because it's casual. And ultimately a time waste, as every level is 30 minutes long.
If they had replaced "Werehog" with "Knuckles" I think the game would have been far more positively received
that niggas even more autistic than shadow
The werehog stages were fun but they dragged on too much for me.
Well how, smart guy
>Werehog
wouldn't it make more sense to call him a Wolfhog
>Why exactly did people hate this guy again?
Probably because you don't play a sonic game for 3d platforming and brawling mechanics, just like you wouldn't play a mario game expecting to go fast off ramps and shit. Also edgelord designs aren't usually received well by anyone who's over 12.
too slow
It's just not what I want out of a Sonic game.
Literally just put a usb loaded with games music into your 360, use the media player, and it plays over the game music but keeps all the sound effects
How do people have 0 idea on what their console is capable of doing?
Well I don't know about other people, but I played it a long time ago on some friend's wii.
I'm planning to play it again on my wiiu now so I wanted to be ready.
It's not the same.
Too long
Shiet the wii one? That one is pretty bad m8, cant use any media options on that as far as i know. Not even getting into that, everything else is a direct downgrade from the HD one
As expected
At least you don't have to go around collecting Sun/Moon medals.
I had the PS3 copy.
Could play music with Unleashed but I wouldn't be surprised people don't know about audio playback in games, that shit is selective on what games work with it.
>gigantic command list of combos, grabs, and special moves
>zero reason to learn any of it because the enemies are literally the same from start to finish
It could've been so much more.
Night stages were way better than most of the day stages. But I'd never replay them. Its crazy though you go from horrible stage design to tight early 2000 platforming with a decent camera. My only complaint is that werehog is too "slippery".
People would think i'm being epik or whatever but this is how I feel honestly.
Combat felt too clunky and Werehog controls so sluggish and awkwardly. Just moving around felt terrible, let's not even get into jumping.
I do like the whole beat-em-up aspect at least but there wasn't much reason to use combos.
They really should've just put more effort into Werehog instead of padding out the levels to make the game seem longer.
So like dmc3 or 4 where the enemies are just punching bags that exist for you to stunt on?
I don't know how the PS3 works but 99% of 360 games supported custom music.
The idea was flawed when they did the day/night idea. The two gameplay styles didn't complement each other at all. Unleashed should've been all night stages, or nothing. But then people would've just seen it as the shitty sonic spin-off it is, and disregard it. Maybe if they would've focused on it more it would be better, though.
Thing is though, didn't SA1 and 2 have varying types of gameplay and everyone loved those?
When SA came out everyone said it was amazing and added lots of variation and unique flavor to the game. But that was just on the Dreamcast. The ports that came after all went back on this and said they always sucked.
Varying types of gameplay yes, that were also befitting of the characters. But no, nobody actually liked Searching for Emeralds and shit as Knuckles etc.. it's just that some of the music in those stages was good.
