I don't really care for either of them but Super Castlevania IV is a hell of a lot better than Bloodlines.

Dracula's Curse, Rondo of Blood and Chronicles are the best Classicvania titles.

I know people love these two for some reason but I really don't.
I legitimately think that the Konami of America game for SNES that recycled some sprites from Rondo, called Dracula X (or Vampire's Kiss in Europe) is legitimately better than these two barring the literally bullshit final boss.

I do like to use the romhack for it that replaces Richter sprite with the unnamed protagonist from that other cancelled 2D Castlevania though.

3 > 1 > 4 > Bloodlines > Symphony >>>>>>> All the rest of metroidvania > 2

What a shame the 32x castlevania was never developed.
More castlevania would've always been good.

Rondo of Blood

Agreed.
Curious about that animated and R-rated upcoming TV series written by Warren Ellis though since he's a legit good writer.

I prefer Bloodlines. I also prefer the Genesis Contra game over Contra III.

Symphony of the Night.

Of the two? 4
Dracula X Chronicles is better than both

>Dracula X Chronicles is better than both
Why are you counting that considering it's a compilation of games?
Sure you didn't mean Dracula X which is a diferent game, namely the SNES one?

Dracula X Chronicles is a 2.5D remake of Rondo as well as port of original Rondo and an updated version of PS1's SotN with new content.

I can't.
Bloodlines is a more challenging game, but IV has such a great atmosphere that I always breeze trough it around Halloween for mood purposes.
Both have amazing soundtracks, especially when listened to on the original hardware:

Bloodlines is superior but Sup Forums will say otherwise or try to not choose between the two like faggots.

SCV4 soundtrack is very un-Castlevania aside from the Vampire Killer remix.
In fact, I'd say Lords of Shadow is more or less perfect transitioning of SCV4 concepts into 3D high definition.

>IV has such a great atmosphere that I always breeze trough it around Halloween for mood purposes.
It scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. The music really made it much better.

Would emulating Chronicles be considered less stupid than getting Dracula X off the eShop

They are two completely different games user.
See

>updated version of PS1's SotN with new content.
Content from the saturn version

Nope.
It doesn't have the Gardens from Saturn.
And the DXC Maria plays completely differently from Saturn Maria, and has different sprites for the most part as well.
Pretty sure Saturn didn't have the Maria boss fight either.

RoB

You have to struggle through the poorly made "remake" to get to the original game

>Rondo remake
>poor
Lemme guess, you're a dumb graphicsfag?
It's an improvement all the way, especially since it actually has AN ACTUAL alternate Stage 5 with actual new boss fight.
And Dracula has a 3rd form.

>Pretty sure Saturn didn't have the Maria boss fight either.
It did.

fucking pillars instead of a floor + knock back from Dracula's attacks. Goddammit that shit was frustrating.

Yeah, it wouldn't infuriate me as much if he didn't have knockback, at least not on the small fireballs.

Fair enough, rest of what I said still stands though.

DXC is fine.

Super Castlevania 4.
What a stupid question

I liked Order of Ecclesia

>worse music
>shitty 2.5D graphics that look like they are made in Unity
>hit detection problems
>b-but they changed one level

Its just worse than the original

If you like classicvanias check out Odallus, neat blend of classic and metroidvania styles

>worse music
But it's literally the same but with actual instruments this time.

>shitty 2.5D graphics that look like they are made in Unity
>hurr durr I'm 2retarded to know PSP hardware limitations

>hit detection problems
Blatant fucking lie.

Rondo of Blood on TurboGrafx CD.
Bloodlines and Castlevania 4 somewhere on the same level.

>Odallus
What's that? Never heard of it.
Is it on 3DS?

>hurr durr I'm 2retarded to know PSP hardware limitations

Are you implying that the PSP couldn't have some wonderful 2D graphics? And to be honest 2.5D can look good sometimes.
Pic related is a example of a remake with well made 2.5D graphics.

I choose Rondo

>Plebian Choice: Super Castlevania IV
>Contrarian Choice: Castlevania Bloodlines
>Patrician Choice: Castlevania X68000

It essentially became rondo of blood / sotn in that the team rebanded for these games and reused some assets

It's on Steam, you can always wait for a sale if it's not cheap enough. Got 14 hours out of it, tight gameplay, later NES-tier spritework and above average music

Cheers, will pirate cause I'm a poorfag.

Be sure to check out Veteran mode if you beat it, it changes around stage order, item placement and has new enemies.

Will do.

Bloodlines is the perfect Classicvania to me. It took everything I loved about the first game and more or less perfected it. Every single level offers something new and there are tons of boss fights to spice things up. It's short and sweet so it never feels like it overstays its welcome.

Castlevania IV is still an incredible game though as is Rondo. They're all in my top 5 CV games. I also think Dracula X is pretty solid too despite the the gameplay feeling a little odd after playing through Bloodlines, IV, and Rondo first. I also thought the final boss was easy but that might be because I had the axe when I fought him.
