The only times Nintendo has made powerful hardware, they've been punished heavily for it. The N64 and Gamecube are two of their worst-selling systems, with pretty much only the Virtual Boy being considered a worse failure by Nintendo.

PS4 Pro fails to even get passed 1080p 30 fps in several instances. What the fuck makes you think they're going to release a console with 4K? If anything, 2k is the new standard for a while now, at least on PC, and consoles won't have that sorted out for another 4 years.
Because even a $2000 PC isn't even a powerful 4k platform.

I also don't think Nintendo's first party games really suffer from being on older hardware. Fuck, I still think Galaxy looks gorgeous, and there's still no other 3D platformer on modern consoles that come close to competing with it. So really, Nintendo running on slightly weaker xbone-esq hardware isn't a big deal, where as the utility of being able to take the switch to work and play games during my lunch break (something I can't do with my PC) is more than a fair trade off
