Plus it's not like he's wrong. First-person shooters have evolved quite a bit since Doom. When it comes down to it, it's a boring game with auto aiming and AI that does nothing but stand and shoot. Was cool for its time but come on.

Infinite vertical auto-aim, a small bit of horizontal auto-aim, enemy hitboxes are massive squares that extend beyond their graphic, and the punch/chainsaw will turn you towards an enemy after the first hit.

You're goddamn right I have. Back from when it was shareware on floppy discs. It was also my father's favorite game. Between us, we owned probably six different versions of Doom games. We even replaced our floppy versions when those badass CD Rom drives came out. Everything I said is true.

The level design is so-so, the wave-based spawns in rooms can fuck off and the speed is still pretty slow.

I played the original DOOM games in my childhood and even I only think they're mildly enjoyable. These days I'd probably play them for about 30-40 minutes before moving onto something else. It was no different for me when I was a kid.

Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Pong aren't fun either. They're a weak novelty which can hold my attention for maybe 10 minutes.

You sound insanely spoiled by modern convenience if you can't still appreciate a good high score based arcade playthrough as much as a start to finish one.

Yeah, reloading is shit but everything else can be avoided/not used. Roll? You dont need it. Taunt? What are you, 12? Jump? It isnt mapped on the default control scheme of any engine you use. Iron sights? Same as before.

Hell, you can even use the classic mode that comes with bdoom.
