I played my first FE game a few weeks ago (Awakening) and I'm about to start on Conquest. I really like it so far but God help me I think I like Advance Wars more.
I know FE has more depth and women with monster tits, but I feel like AW is the same gameplay refined to an absolute diamond.
Opinions man
I played only one level of advance wars and gave up
If you like AW,play FE6/7.
Less waifu pandering and more game play. FE8's cool too,but no challenge.
conquestfags should be hanged.
Yeah I was looking into playing some of the older games but I saw that a good few of them weren't released outside of Japan. I know I can still play them (and I will) but it's a bit of a shame to lose out on the story.
Advance Wars is a turn based tactics game whereas FE is a TRPG. Forget all your impressions of the series you got from Awakening, that game is an abomination and should not be used to represent the series.
The appeal of TRPGs like FE is that you have unique characters with their own individual roles in battle. In Conquest, you'll find the personal skills of each character are immensely useful and your tactics and formations are heavily influenced as a result.
If you end up disliking the RPG aspect, look into other turn based tactics games.
That's promising to hear about Conquest, and if Awakening is a shitty entry in the series then I'm glad I got it out of the way. I did like the characters but I felt the replayability of the game took a knock once I'd experienced all the interactions I cared about. I think I sunk 600 hours into AW2 and about 40 into Awakening before I decided it was done.
My biggest problem with Awakening was its ease; I could take out literally every unit with Robin and Miriam holding hands (and Lissa in support) by level six/seven.

There's your Advance Wars
FE7 os the goat
I've heard that Leaf has one of the best character arcs in FE, but I don't really understand it. I know he starts the game as a pampered and naive lord, his main motivation is revenge on Reidric, and that he really fucks up by attacking Alster after chapter 18, and he feels inferior to Sety and Seliph because of his lack of major holy blood. But how does he change throughout the game and which of his actions serve as evidence of this change?
Less Waifu Pandering but the story is written for Pre-teens in FE7
Not really a character arc, more just a redemption arc. Leaf loses his mother figure in Eyvel, then he loses one of his closest advisers at the moment he should be at his most triumphant, and he's supposed to redeem himself by rescuing Eyvel in 24x. The specialness comes from how the game likes to compare him with Celice even though Leaf can't use any Holy Weapons.
Well,It's not like new FE has a goldbrick to defend theirsleves on that aspect.
whats the ebst english patch for geneology?
cheers la
Hop you rescued all the civillians in chapter 24 :)
FE8 being easy isn't as much a detriment to the game as FE6 being dickish about growths
Also no FE is really challenging once you get the gist of things
Though Nohr on Lunatic threw me for a spin
Binding Blade is fucking my ass, Roy is a shit and goddamn I hate that the game doesn't have quick save
still enjoying it, but for fucks sake
That sounds reasonable, I guess I could interpret it as Leaf becoming a strong/capable leader throughout the game and proving that by saving eyvel.
I like FE4 but I don't think it's as great as people make it sound. The story and world building are good but the gameplay is subpar. The enemies come at you in such huge numbers that it feels less strategic and more "park your two or three best units in a tree and hope they dodge enough to survive". The roster size make ironman runs seem completely impractical, and god help you if you (somehow) lose your holy weapon users.
I like the game but it just seems like something's holding me back from really enjoying it.
The sooner you accept that Roy is not a main combat unit, the easier time you'll have letting him stay out of danger. And I'm not sure what you mean about the quick save thing. It suspends your progress automatically after every move, so if you shut off the game you can resume the chapter at any time right where it left off. It's just that the RNG will not change so you can't savescum to get out of losing a unit.
Tacthack when
I hate fe8 because at the end of the game you're not even fighting enemy units anymore, it's all monsters with weapons like claws and eye lasers instead of the weapon triangle.
An all-sub ironman run isn't that hard. You'll always have a few holy sword users that are nigh invincible and you can handle a lot of threats by abusing staves. There's also some other mechanics that are often forgotten such as leadership, charisma, lover bonuses, etc.
You don't actually have to "hope" your units dodge enough to survive. Normally you will place a strong unit at the edge of an enemy group's range so they can survive even if all attacks connect, then you move it with the rest of your units (plus the dancer) to clean up the rest.
And if you pass down the valkyrie staff you easily keep everyone alive with it.
That being said I agree with you. The gameplay doesn't encourage complex tactics like FE5 does so it's not that engaging overall.
Predictions for FE Switch plot?
>hardmode: no "two neighbouring kingdoms that worship dragons go to war"
erm, erm, protag's father gets kidnapped so he/she sets out to avenge him?
Some guy's a dick and dragons are back
gather a rag-tag gang of misfits and save the world
Two kingdoms that worship dragons invade a central neighbor that doesn't worship dragons
...
Moe titty monsters, VN elements and waifufaggotry to finally kill the franchise
What if the mc is the dragon loli?
What if it's the jeagan
>Foot units have neato crits
>Mounted units just trot over and wag their stick
ive never played a fe before, where should I start? awakening?
any got a tier list of these games?
Dude, we already came to the conclusion that Gen 2 was Aless Emblem months ago. Keep up, would you?
Then we've got game of the fugging year on our hands.
no really, I would unironically buy the shit out of that
GBA games are better so start with those
I'm pretty sure he was sarcastically referring to FE14 with that comment.
The best games are Thracia 776 and Path of Radiance. However, the best places to start are Blazing Sword and Mystery of the Emblem. Awakening is arguably the worst game and easily the worst place to start the series.
Awakening's more accessible but then move on to the GBA games. Try FE7 after
Play Fates too. It's not that great but play it anyway.
Reading this posts I got an epiphany. I know what the franchise needs. Monster girls. They work like the monster enemies from FE8 only they are moe monstergirls and you can recruit and marry them and breed kawaii monstergirl daughterus. Truly that would be the fire emblem of fire emblems.
What exactly are you referring to?
Literally AW but fantasy
Pretty sure I said I would play a dragon loli emblem m8
I know you can be one in Fates but I played the fucking self-insert anime protag instead because I'm retarded
No, we have enough of those as it is.
Archers are 100% Shit
Yes
get this normie-shit outta here
Next demo is set to come out next week
>normie
Fuck off normalfag
>normie
Furry is many bad things but normie isn't one of them.
catgirls are objectively the most normie of monstergirls
thanks, I'll probably start with fe7.
>Path of Radiance
Fun way to spell Radiant dawn
How far does it go if it's still just demo? And out of how many chapters?
>Chucklefuck
Dead on arrival
Have you been working on this for ~5 years or am I thinking of something else?
I think you play as a dark mage in a mercenary band and the first chapter is on a boat, is that right?
Next demo goes to 18 but is 21 chapters total, final version is hovering around being 26 chapters long not including gaidens.
There was also some new work done on older chapters too.
That's the one.
Did you remember to give heavy knights axes in their map sprites?
Not yet, but it'll be fixed before the demo's out.
tl;dr.
So you did a FE4 playthrough on serenesforest or something?
>Radiant dawn
>Best Anything
Have you added any supports?
No, somebody who can actually articulate his thoughts did a playthrough of FE4 on serenesforest while actually giving eceleb-style commentary on the plot and levels.
Right, I guess I did oversimplify it a bit. And what you described is what I had to start doing in the second gen, since they're so fond of mixing magic users into groups. Mounted units being able to move after attacking can also make for a relatively safe offensive approach if they attack enemies and then retreat behind a choke point with a strong unit plugging it.
I'm at the beginning of Chapter 8. The story is interesting but the world is so large and has so many different places that it's still hard to take it all in. That aside, it's oddly satisfying just romping around from place to place conquering every castle on the map.
Does Thracia have a good translation yet?
Top Tier:
Path of Radiance
Thracia 776
Conquest
High Tier:
New Mystery of the Emblem
Binding Blade
Middle Tier:
Rekka no Ken
Radiant Dawn
Birthright
Low Tier:
Genealogy of the Holy War
Sacred Stones
Awakening
Revelations
Bottom Tier:
Shadow Dragon
Garbage Tier:
Gaiden
Support conversations will not be in the next version, but supports as a gameplay mechanic will.
Are there any examples of Fire Emblem romhacks or fan games that actually have decent writing? Every one i see seems like it was written by forum dweeling tweens out to be edgier than the last
What I mean to say is, you'll be able to support characters just fine. Just no conversations until later.
No.
Order of the Crimson Arm has a pretty non-offensive story in that regard, I tried to play Last Promise though and I know what you mean
>high tier
>binding blade
>low tier
>sacred stones and genealogy
This one
>Sacred Stones and Genealogy
>Not in low tier
???
I agree with Binding blade being in high tier is weird though
TQL is decent. Some meme shit but otherwise it's serviceable, especially for a hack that came from fucking /feg/
>it's the "sacred stones and genealogy is actually good" meme
I tried playing it and i dont get the fuss. It just came off as a Sup Forums and/or /feg/ wetdream game, and the characters weren't very memorable. While its not horrible like TLP or FE7x its also not good like the better mainline entries. I felt as much for the characters and story playing it as i did when i played FE1 or 7, it wasnt great nor horrible, and there were definitely some highlights, but kinda forgettable.
>get to FE4 chapter 7
>Leif is absolute trash and can't do anything
You could change only a couple stats in sacred stones to make it actually challenging and itd be one of the better games in the series.
People overblow the games lack of difficulty to the point of calling the game shit yet everything about it besides difficulty is better than both FE6 and 7. Im not gonna pretend its flawless, and is probably mid tier at most, but low tier is underselling it.
If you search up shit taste, this post shows up
>sacred stones
>any higher than low tier
You should be happy it's not in garbage tier
Any Fire Emblem game with a world map with enemy spawns is trash. There are no exceptions.
It's:
>I have really shit taste in games
Meme
Im sorry for you
>Binding blade
>high
The only high one here is you, my friend.
Could you explain what makes new mystery so much better than shadow dragon?
>lowen just dies to erik on a 1% crit
fuck that sucks he had gotten some pretty good levels too
is there anything that will stop me from using marcus to kill everything in fe6
>fe6
Yes, he'll eventually fall behind other units
>fe7
Nope
I think that's why there's a fuss about it. It's more comparable to the mainline games than other romhacks
There are translation patches m8. They're all great if you get the most recent ones, except for Fe5's which makes the menus an unreadable mess
When the enemy stats catch up to and start surpassing him. Jeigans shouldn't be getting kills.
use the book of naga patch
>Jeigans shouldn't be getting kills.
FE7 Marcus is an Oifeye
Tell me about Conquest
is it fun?
Okay but he was asking about FE6 Marcus.
yeah
ignore the dumb story and you'll be fine
I still insist the story would be better if Corrin acted more like a badass conqueror and not a pussy who was too weak willed to kill people when he's in the middle of a fucking war.
Yeah, it's hard, but there are situations that require you to kill. War being one.
Why hasn't anyone started on a script rewrite for all paths in Fates? Revelations especially needs it.
My sword hand twitches.
