I was thinking it was a direct OoT sequel as well, but the spoiled story details contradict that.

It's 10,000 years after TP, or FSA, or whatever the last game in the child timeline was, I can't remember. Ganon keeps getting killed over and over and every time he comes back to life more distorted than the last time around, eventually turning into Calamity Ganon, also known as "Malice".
The "100 years ago" thing alluded to in the trailers is a self-contained plot; Link has amnesia or whatever at the start of the game and was put to sleep 100 years ago, and you recover his memories. The old man is the King of Hyrule. There are no revelations about the series' lore or whatever, it's new stuff about the giant Sheikah mechs designed to fight Ganon.
It ends with the Master Sword being restored and sealing away Malice/Calamity Ganon, aka every Zelda ending ever. Zelda says something about the Master Sword being used in the past to "save the skies" and "save the world from twilight" alluding to BOTW's placement.
Everybody has a happy ending party and the credits music is just a lazy medley of songs from the rest of the game.

The game explains that sealing Ganon is just sealing him away, but killing him causes him to reincarnate later but in a more twisted form, so that's a bit of an explanation for why human Ganondorf keeps getting beastlier in the downfall timeline assuming the logic holds across all of them
